kx18/Jet & mobile PhoneTools?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hey, I'm not new to the Mobile PhoneTools world, I used to use it with my Razr all the time. However, that was Motorola, and now this is Kyocera. I have Kyocera Mobile PhoneTools and the amp'd Jet aka kx18. I need some help with the drivers. I already have the main one for the cable, but now it's asking for the driver for the "data interface" and I already know that it's going to ask for the driver for like 4 or 5 other things. I really need some help finding & insalling these drivers. please don't tell me to search, I already have. I would just like for someone to please help me, thank you.

So I emailed, kyocera about this issue with mobile phone tools, this is what they replied back with, very interesting.

Thank you for contacting Kyocera-Wireless Accessory Store. This email
message is in response to your inquiry regarding using Mobile Phone

Drivers to use with MPT and the KX18 are still in development. When
they are available, you will be able to download them from our site, but
the ones currently listed for the cable TXDTA10102 will not support the
KX18. I apologize for any inconvenience.

So those drivers wont work for the KX18, aka the new AMP'D Mobile Kyocera Jet. That sucks totally.

I dont understand, if their still in development, why does MPT have the AMP'd Mobile Jet[KX18], listed on there??? What is going on?

Posted by: Paine

OK, here's what you do.. run MPT without setting up your phone (because duh, you can't). Run the Live Updater, download everything it has available, plug the phone into the computer, when it asks for the driver for Data Interface, click the one in the middle so it lets you choose from CD, removable media, folder, etc... click browse on the folder line, go to (assuming your hard drive is labeled C C:/Program Files/Mobile PhoneTools/Inf/KX18 (or whatever it may be on yours, that's the default) and it will find it. Just use that folder destination for the Data Interface drive installation windows and congradulations, unplug your phone after it installs, start MPT, go to the screen where it tells you to connect the phone, connect it, and it will all set up. So Kyocera's Support team is wrong... it DOES work with the KX18/Jet.

Thank alot paine, that helped me out ALOT.... I think this should be stick'd so all the people with the AMP'd Mobile Jet can use this method for MPT!

Ok im still having problems.... when im adding the phone to mobile phone tools, everything goes well untill when adding the modem part, it just wont find a modem... help? I tried avoiding that and clicking "Next", but it still wont detect my phone!!

Posted by: Paine

Hm.. Well, this is what happened for me..It asked me for one driver, the one for the cable, it found it, OK. I unplugged the cable, plugged it back in, it brought up like 2 more driver installation windows, installed those from the folder i previously posted about, started MPT, it asked to plug in my phone, i unplugged it, plugged it back in, installed it, and then said it was done. Havent had any problems, the only problem i had was realizing i had to do a LiveUpdate to get MPT to have the KX18 drivers.

Thats not what im talking about, im talking about when your on MPT, and your adding a new phone or watever, it asks for a modem, it wont find the modem, and it wont detect my phone even if I ignore it and click next..... which cable are you using? for example [TXDTA10102]....??

Posted by: Paine

Yes, that is the one im using. What are you trying to do though? Because when I added the phone to MPT it detected it and worked perfectly. Make sure your phone isnt plugged in. Start MPT. it'll ask you for a profile. It'll then ask you to setup a phone. Click next, it'll say something about plugging the phone in. Do it. It should work. Make sure your phone is in COM mode. Settings, USB Mode, COM Mode.

Ok this is what im doing step by step.

When the window that tells me to connect my USB Cable and all comes up, I just reconnect it, and the "installing" process begins, as it ends, it tells me "MPT Cannot Detect Your Phone, do you want to manually add this phone?" or watever....

I mean, the only driver it asked me for was the Data Interface, and I never got a "new wizard" thing after that...

My phone the first few times WASN'T on com mode, I've now tried it on com mode, and still same thing....

Posted by: MoeQrazy

Nevermind, I finally fixed it!!....

I uninstalled, the software which came with my phone.

I went into "Device Manager" and connected my phone, it had 2 things with a yellow "!" on there, both saying "Data Interface", so I knew what I had to do thanks to you, so I installed both of em, one was the modem, the other was the com port setting, and now it FINALLY I can say works....

Thanks alot for all your help Paine, thanks ;]

You first update mobile phone tools, THEN when its fully updated, have it search in the inf folder in the mobilephone tools folder..... and viola it'll work just find...

My version of Mobile Phone Tools is from motorolla, and no matter how many times I update it, it doesn't have drivers for the Kyocera Kx18.

If someone could help me find a copy of "Kyocera Mobile Phone Tools", I would greatly appreciate it. The place I ordered it from just waits until the estimated ship date arrives, then changes it for a week later. This has happened three times now.

Does ANYONE stock this program?

If anyone can help me get this #@($&# application I would really, really, really appreciate it!
