Does this thing have the same poor speaker phone and dust under the screen problem as the 5600??

I still have my MPx 220 and I'm thinking about this phone.

Also - can anyone comment on the Edge speed and if the phone can thether to a PDA via Blue Tooth for data?

Thanks

Ralph

No dust, and the speakerphone is way louder than the MPx 220.

Any experience with the speed of Edge and Blue Tooth data connections to PDAs?

BT was way slower than EDGE so you won't notice the EDGE speeds when teathering to a computer or a PDA via BT. BT doesn't have as large as a bandwith as EDGE or GPRS. It will be below GPRS speeds. I use Pass thru via BT on my 2125 and even though my computer is hooked up to Cable interent, its still slow because of BT, now when I use the USB cable then I get the fast speeds.

"One big factor that affects the data rate on Bluetooth is the packet type. Single-slot packets use just one 625-microsecond slot and can carry up to 27 bytes, offering a data rate of 108.8 kilobits per second in each direction. Five-slot packets can provide up to 339 bytes in 3125 microseconds, which improves the data rate to 433.9 kilobits per second. Data is moving nearly four times as fast because the device is spending more time transmitting packets and less time retuning the radio between packets."

I guess HTC has implemented a sub-standard bluetooth technology on this phone; shame. Guess I'll stick with my MPx 220 until something better hits.

Thank you for the insight; you saved me the $$.

It was no different on my MPx 220. BT teathering was always slow.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I dont think the bluetooth tech. was implimented by HTC, but by Windows Mobile.

Each manufacturer can have their own drivers to support specific BT hardware and profiles. Evidence of this is that with the MPx220, when you had OBEX enabled you'd see an FTP folder when you performed a file transfer with a PC or PDA. With the SMT5600, and most likely the Cingular 2125 (both made by HTC), you do not see an OBEX or FTP folder when you try to transfer files from a PC or PDA.
