Alright a little background, I have a Mot V551J and have been for a while trying to link it up to my pc using a usb cable and motorola phone tools. I have read dozens of posts about this. Basically all i want to do is be able to transfer pictures videos and ringtones to and from my phone to laptop. I understand that since I have Win XP service pack 2 this is a night mare. And getting the OS to correctly identify the usb is ... well hit and miss .. mostly miss. I have on rare occasions managed to get it to work like 1 out of a 100, and not matter how many different suggestions I just can't seem to make it work consistently. I have the motorola 3.28 and p2kman etc etc. I am thinking or trying one of those USB bluetooth receivers. Has anyone had better success with them? Are there any downfalls to this and does anyone know if it will work with win xp ser pack 2? Any speacial instructions?
Thanks

I have a Razr v3c and had issues with the USB drivers as well. I was able to find drivers for it but they didnt work very well. I recently switched to a BT adaptor and everything works smoothly now. Depending on the adaptor you get there is a known issue with Sp2 but there is also a fix for it on the MPT support forums. Also you might want to LiveUpdate your MPT as they have release 4.04 now and made MANY improvements to it.

I got an elcheapo BT dongle (ICCS) and after many hours of trying have not been able to exchange any data between phone and computer. My efforts included installing and uninstalling various BT drivers (BlueSoleil and Widcomm) with the same result: the phone can be paired with the computer but there are no BT services detected and the connection for data excange is not made. I thought that the cable connection would be rock solid, but I am not so sure after reading the above posts. With respect to the dongle, some people seem to have success with certain models, so a list of "good" dongles might be useful.

just an update for you ,

I bought a Xenon bluetooth dongle , connected fine to my pc found my mobile , so i thought great lets get my audio files and pictures downloaded asap ,
Well , Pictures went on fine , took a second if that to transer on to the phone , Music files was just a joke , took 15 minutes for just one song ! , yet when I had my nokia 6230i using the data cable & nokia software it only took 10 seconds .
Am wondering whether to go and buy the motorolla data cable now ....

any thoughts ?
