v3 razr automatic speed dials set when syncing

ok, so i am syncing my razr with my computer and everything goes over fine, and the phone seems to think it needs to assign each contact a speed dial, which is fine unless I have a method to my madness and want my speed dials to be set by ME...

so when I go in there to reset them, and I set the speed dial for a number and it coincides with one of the preset ones, it asks me "do you want me to replace 'so & so'? " and so, i said yes, assuming that it was just going to replace that speed dial and wasn't dumb enough to actually replace the entire contact, but alas, i was wrong... it essentially deletes the contact whose speed dial i am trying to replace.

SO. is there a way to turn off the automatic speed dial assignments or just clear them totally out so i can start fresh and not have to go through each contact and clear them out before making new assignments??

thanks!!

Couple of things come to mind...

Where are you contacts saved ..sim or phone?

You can use MPT to select the speed dial number which is much easier than working with the phone....then save changes...

forgive my newbie stupidity, but where do i get MPT? i got the phone as a hand-me-down, so i didn't get any CD's or anything. can i get it on the motorola site, or is this a non-motorola program?

thanks!

I'm having this exact same problem with my V3 on T-Mobile. Now mind you, I'm new to the whole SIM card stuff... I went through the exact same thing 3inity went through. I want to assign a number to speed dial 5 (so I can press and hold 5 and it will dial Mom...). I do that and it says "Speed No.5 empty", when I look at Mom's phonebook entry, it is stored to phone and speed dial is listed as 5. I can, however, press "5#" and immediately be taken to her phonebook entry, but I want to be able to press and hold 5 for a second and have it dial her number like the damn manual says...

Any help would be much appreciated fellas...

mpt's not very easy to use to reassign speed dial numbers...i'm also looking for an easier solution.

are there any alternative programs?
