CDM9900: after water spill, can view photos, but not send 'em

I've followed the instructions I've read here about how to salvage a water-soaked cell phone and managed to save my Audiovox CDM 9900 -- almost! (The cap of a small bottle of Evian in my purse came unscrewed and my cell phone got soaked.)
Everything is working again, audio is fine, no problemos -- EXCEPT for the ability to take a picture or a video. I can still VIEW previously saved videos and photos in my Media Gallery. And I can e-mail them, too. Picture quality is fine.
But I'm unable to shoot anything NEW. When I press the Camera button it gives me a 1/2 second of that "I'm about to take a picture" screen image, and then reverts to the main menu. Same thing happens when I attempt to shoot video.
The only other thing I've noticed is that the green light is no more. Whether the cell phone is turned on or off, whether the battery is low or fully charged, the red light is always on.
Has anyone here ever had this problem with the camera/video feature?
I do intend to take the thing into Verizon and see if it can be repaired, but since this won't be covered by the warranty, if it's going to be expensive, I either have to live without the camera for another 1 1/2 years of my contract -- or spring for another new phone and no longer at a cheap price. . . and I know the 9900's aren't easy to find anymore.
Thoughts? Thanks.

They're about $120 on eBay if you really like the model.

Thanks for the tip. Let's hope Verizon can fix it for less than $120. At least now I have a $$ baseline to work with. Thanks again.
