IHF1000 and E815 experience

Just had an IHF1000 installed in my wife's 2004 Toyota Highlander by a professional installer. The installation is very neat and classy. Sound thru the speaker is excellent. However the called party has a difficult time understanding the caller (me or my wife). This is very unsatisfactory. Also, the speech recognition is awful as it is almost impossible to get the unit to understand anything except "Cancel" and Exit".

I am pleased to read the positive comments of others. The unit is wonderfully designed and offers great possibilities. I just wish I could find out what is wrong with my unit/installation.

Two questions:
1) My mic was placed in the center of the windshield behind the rear view mirror where the embedded auto radio antenna is. Does anyone see a possible problem with this configuration?
2) Located within an inch of the mic is my toll booth transponder (automatic toll payment device). Any thought about this? I will remove this tomorrow and observe the effect.j

I also have the IHF1000 & it works very well. I installed mine myself & the instructions specifically state NOT to mount the mic on the windshield! It also states that there must be a clear path between the mic and the person speaking (ie. Nothing in the way like a rear view mirror. )

I would take it back to the installer and tell him to move the mic. Have him mount it on the overhead center console, in line with the center of the rear view mirror:

In this picture it is installed on the left side, don't do that. You want it on the bottom, in line with the center of the rear view mirror. (That's where mine is at & everyone in the car can talk on it!)

Once you move the mic, you'll love it! I love showing it off to people who have never been in my car before by using the "Dial Number" feature. I ask them to say their cell phone number & it dials it! Then I show them how it's Bluetooth & it just wirelessly connects when I start the car

Good luck,

--n00b,
Thanks very much. After your advice I pulled the instuctions I should have reviewed prior to turning the kit over to the installer. At my age (advanced), I should have learned the lesson a long time ago to know as much as you can before depending on someone else. The instructions clearly state the facts as you described. I have moved the mic as you suggested and the improvement is remarkable. This kit is really neat and my wife loves it. Also thanks to the forum for making it possible for me to have my problem cleared in 10 hours.

Do you have to use the provided speaker? Can the unit connect to the cars speakers?

Also where is the ideal placement for this speaker if it has to be used?

Yes, the kit does have a seperate set of outputs designed to hook to your car speakers too. I'm planning on doing this soon (the parts are on order).
