Haha. Don't listen to him. I've never sold in a mall, it's a little too stressful for me, from what I have heard, but here are my best practices.

1. find something truthful to get people's attention. WIth T-mobile, I'll be like, how bout a free camera phone on a one-year contract? or something like that.

2. NEVER LIE TO A CUSTOMER. It's better to lose a sale for being truthful than to get the sale by lying. The reason is that when that customer finds out you were lying, they're going to be pissed, and it's a proven fact that upset customers tell 10 people about it, while happy customers only tell 3.

3. Smile alot and if you've got wife on board, then focus on husband. Or vice versa. Try to engage the person who's not engaged. Find something that they'll like about it.

4. Just remember that for every 10 no's, there's a yes. Somedays, you'll get all no's. That just means you've gotten them out of the way of your yes'. You'll never get another sale if you don't ask for it.

haha to jag..

ive never worked at the mall but id see how nice it would be.. traffic should be like a waterfall there. its just up to you if you have the skills to talk people into stopping at your kiosk. use some nice eyecandy, big signs like FREE CAMERA PHONE or something.. shoppers LOVE demo's also.. carry a neat phone with you and demo it off, that is one of the number 1 techniques i would say in closing a sale.

if you go to a computer store and just look at a plastic version.. you wouldnt really want it right? well a cell phone is an accessory now and days.. so be very descriptive and helpful with the demo'ing.

good luck to you

take advice from the people and "NEVER EVER LIE" to a customer u can fib, but not lie! ... haha *kidding* - take it from some of the people whos been in the industry for a while, lying never gets u far - and forces u into a bad habbit of being a bad sales person... i think most of us started out as being shady sales people but after a few attempts at it u kinda learn its f'd up to be that way and u end up getting f'd over...

another good advice, smile! even tho you want to smack the **** outta people sometimes, its ok you have the upper hand, they know where u work... u know where they live!!! *kidding* just put a face and dont bring work home.

... sales advice, be as sharp and precise as you can be, USE CSP! USE HOFO! USE INFORMATIONAL RESOURCES!!! nobody likes a sales person who dont know jack what they are talking about!!! ... thats why i dont buy anything from best-buy and circuit city (quote -" im pretty sure this picture in picture tv has picture in picture... hold on let me look at the tag... yea it does - but i dont know how to work it")

be sharp, be confident, be honest... and you'll make a good living.

No doubt, nothing worse than a moron, also, actually use the carrier you sell, if you dont/cant afford right away, never have your phone with you on the floor and get an emp plan ASAP. If its not good enough for you... Also,i dont think the hard sell approach is more effective than honest product and carrier knowledge. As far as making a decent living,i grossed 48k last yeak and this is my first retail job not a rich man (yet) but not eating ramen by any means!

my advice includes a lot of what's been said but here it is:

1. Don't be afraid to say "I'm not sure" or "I don't know" and then go find the answer for the customer by asking someone or searching on the internet. LYING DOES NOTHING FOR YOU BUT LOSE CUSTOMERS!!!!!! I can't tell you how frustrating it is having someone tell you something that is untrue for the product you are buying. saying "I don't know" does not make you look bad, especially when you find the answer. it shows honesty and by learning the correct answer, helps you in the future.

2. Do not be afraid to ask for the sale. Make sure the customer understands everything and then ask "would you like to start the paperwork?" or something like that. Even assume the sale "so it sounds like blah blah blah works best for you so lets go get everything ready". a lot of people lose sales only because they don't ask for it.

3. as also mentioned above, know your stuff! go to different wireless sites, CSP, HOFO, subscribe to a weekly wireless magazine or two. I have Wireless Week and TWICE comin to my house. People appreciate knowledge.

4. and of course, SMILE! even when answering the phone, people can tell.

5. sell wherever you go. always have business cards, always use your phone on the carrier you sell, and being in a mall environment you have a big advantage of going around to each store and introducing yourself and passing stuff out. Utilize what you have.

that's all for now. Good Luck!

as most have said NEVER LIE, forget about selling what will give you the most money , sell whatwill be best for the customer, if you try to sell a 75 yearold lady a v3 when all she needs is a 6010 she will most likly return it and not get anything then you have no money, justa little heads up when i DO get little old ladys who have been sold a device that is way too much phone for them , i tell them to take it back to that kiosk and go to corp store

Ask for the sale!

Learn different types of closes, I like the "either/or" for most customers.. "You want to go with Nokia or the Samsung"?

I asked for it and didn't pressure.

I know they call 7-7 a feature but I never look at it that way. It is a plan, I offer it early in my presentation. To me it is a part of a plan.

Use the word "give"... Customers like to given something. "For $14 a month, we will give you your nights and weekends starting at seven when your daughter is going to be on the phone talking to her other cheerleader friends".

Another...

We give you Free Roaming... etc..

Oh... I know some suit at Cingular wont like this but DON'T use the line "So you ready to purchase today"? Yes it's asking for the sale but 9 times out of 10 it leads to NO.

Also you're in a mall like myself. You need to get the customer get caught up in the process about getting that phone. Most of my new acts say "I didn't expect I was going to get a phone today". They got caught up.

Since you are on straight commission, LEARN YOU COMMISSION FROMULA. I'm now a trainer for my company. It's the first thing i go over with my employees. We can mark down all we want to and I will sell a phone for $30 less then the suggested price and still make $100. Don't loose a chance to make $50 because you wont come down $30 on a phone. $50 is better then $0.
