I have the Razr and I bought the USB cable, I am running XP Pro. I looked around on here for something to answer the problem, but I couldn't find anything. When I attempt to do the liveupdate it says it is not a proper something or other. On the package it says its for the C330/C350 Series & C650, I don't think that would really be the problem but I guess I could be wrong. All of the information on the package is written in both english and japanese, I think this may be part of the problem. But any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Are you talking about MPT? Did you buy it or download it somewhere? Your post is pretty vague about the error you're getting, too. What version are you trying to upgrade from?

I recently performed a live update of MPT from 3.30 to 4.04. during the install of 4.04 it gets about 1/3 of the way through before my CPU spikes at 100% running 'changecab.exe'. the install never finishes and I have to kill the processes to recover my PC. Has anyone else experienced this? I am running XP Pro SP2

ok, so i had every error like decompression error, self registration error, missing grconv.dll etc.
the command prompt liveupdate method bvrp posted works to update the software (i had 3.23) to 4.04b, which solves the issue about self registration and compression errors. however, once you update to 4.04b you will get another error like cannot find or missing grconv.dll. to solve all these issues try the following:
1. uninstall mobile phonetools (motorola phonetools), bvrp liveupdate in add/remove programs.
2. on your computer, go to start > run > regedit > navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > system > current control set > control
click on control, in the right window you will see either
Disable8dot3namecreation or NtfsDisable8dot3namecreation
double click on the one that is listed and change the value (which should be 1) to 0 (that is the number zero).
3. reboot your computer
4. reinstall the software. now the program will update without having to go to command prompt, and you will not get the final error message concerning grconv.dll once you updated to 4.04b. it seems you get this final error message, because from 3.28 to 4.04b the program changes names from mobile Phonetools to motorola phone tools. the registry value change of 0 ensures that folders with spaces can be accessed by using short names.
since this is a registry edit, make sure you back up your registry first. also, you do the registry edit at your own risk.
for SLVR, 4.04b recognizes the SLVR, so don't worry if the phone during the upgrades isn't yours or you cannot find it. if you get an install phone message, just cancel and let the MPT display the phone. continue to update until you updated to 4.04b. after that, the SLVR will show.

I think I am just gonna give up, I figure its probably just a software glitch and could be fixed using another set of software but I don't know which to use. So thanks for some attempt to help me out.
