i've read a ton of threads and searched. i just wondered if theres a new way to put ringtones on your phone without any external hardware?

via SD card or Email maybe?

thanks

i use ringtones off of my sdcard. Can't find the thread again, but you do need bitpim and a connection. It wont go straight off of your card without it as far as i have been able to see.

1. create a directory called ringers on your sd card.
2. copy any ringtones you want to your sd into /ringers directory.
3. put sd back into your phone
4. start bitpim. (i use bluetooth, but a cable also works)
5. go to data > get phone data
6. select "ringtones" and "replace all". click ok.
7. Then, go to data > send phone data
8. select "ringtones" and "replace all". click ok.

When you go to your ringtones, the ones on your sd card should be there. It took longer to write this than to actually do it. it literally takes two seconds....cause its not writing the tones to and from Bitpim and your phone, its just creating a sounds entry, or so i believe in your filesystem and it then makes your sd tones in the ringers directory accessible.

Hope that helped.

its a cool program that is divided into the different areas that your phone is. You can even mess with the filesystem if you want, and i have on past phones, but my 8100, i see no need to.

But its great for transferring ringtones and wallpapers back and forth where verizon has come up short or manufacturers have limited how you can use your phone.

So, bitpim just makes the phone work the way you want it to.

Its easy to use. If you're using this for your 8100, you can try the bluetooth. get a dongle from any local circuit city or best buy for about 15bucks or so. Everyone says its a little slower, but to me its more convenient and the difference in speed ot me has been unnoticeable.

hope it helped.

is the program on your phone or is it on your PC?

so i get a cable of BT dongle... then i DL Bitpim on my PC? then what?
sorry im a retard.

i guess i have to do this unless i want to buy GIN stuff. in the end i dont really need all that many ringers, and it might end up costing more for the cable/BT and whatnot but its more about sticking it to the man. i'd rather pay Radio Shack than Verizon.

you download it and install it on your computer. you use either a bt dongle (which is just a small dongle you plug into a usb port on your computer).

you really need to do it to understand it....i would suggest getting the bt dongle or the cable, download the program, see what you can figure out or search the threads for bitpim how to's and then if you have any problems, then start asking questions. Otherwise you really wont get how it works...sorta trial by fire..lol.

u dont really need a card to have ringtones on ur phone. i just put the ringers on my phone without a card all i have is the cable. u can d/l bitpim now and mess around with it, u can make ringtones out of the mp3's that u already have on ur computer as well
