T-Mobile v360 - no edge, usb port power capacity exceeded

Problem 1:
When connecting to the T-Mobile network, I am unable to get "into EDGE mode". The v360 has an icon for both EDGE and GPRS, and the GPRS one is the one I get. That, plus slow 56k type download speeds. Is there a setting I need to change on the phone, or USB modem port, or T-Mobile internet connection to get higher EDGE speeds? Perhaps the T-Mobile tower here doesn't have the EDGE upgrade. I haven't gotten through to tech support yet to get that answered.

Problem 2:

When using the supplied data/charger cable, I am able to connect to the internet for about a minute before the USB port(win2k) resets, and says that the power for the USB port has been exceeded, presumably because charging and data at the same time uses too much power.

Solution?:
My solution was to use a usb cable from a 2.5" external hard drive, which plugs into 2 USB ports for additional power. This seems to work fine. At least my phone isn't smoking yet.

Answer to 1: The edge icon has been disabled by T-Mobile. Don't know why, but I verified this with both customer service as well as a rep at a store. None of the V360s they tried showed the icon. They assured me that edge was the default - if it is available on your tower, the phone would automatically pick it up.

Absolutely correct, edge is the default and if the Tower is equipped you will automatically get EDGE.

Other than T-mobile support. I suspect it will be a week before I get any answer due to "high volume".
