How to connect MPT vis non-Moto BT?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

What I have: e815, mobile phone tools, cheap BT dongle with BlueSoleil. I would like to use the bluetooth dongle for file transfers between the phone and the computer (and whatever else could be done...). Using BlueSoleil, I was able to pair the phone with the BT, but could not connect to the file transfer service. Using MPT I selected the "other" bluetooth but is is not detected (probably because it has no DUN service connected). I was thinking about using different BT drivers, but I am not able to get the SP2 bluetooth panel (bthprops.cpl) to run, and I have not found other (widcomm?) drivers. What else could I do to get this going?

You actually need to connect via the DUN profile, which I think by default is disabled. Not sure how to enable that, just do a search. Once you connect via DUN (it'll open a connect to internet window, just close that) the phone will show as a Bluetooth modem. The steps to get it working with MPT after that depend on whether you have MPT 3 or 4. Let me know what you have and I'll give you the steps.

Thanks, but I am not sure what to search for. I have added a few serial ports and configured them as modem, and have also set-up a bluetooth DUN connection. But the phone tools does not connect through any of the modems. I think there's a configuration string and a number code required.

What version of MPT do you have? You may need to manually set up MPT to use the bluetooth modem, and the steps to do this are a little different between version 3 and version 4.

The version is 3.25b. I am using a ICCS dongle and have Widcomm drivers 4.01.700 installed.

Pull up the picture of the phone (cancel the phone setup wizard). Press F6 to open general setup (or menu>setup>general setup), click on communications tab, press change modem button. It should show a list of modems in your computer, choose Bluetooth Modem. Click next through the rest of the wizard. Should have no problems getting this to work as long as the phone is setup correctly as a modem under windows.

##DIALUP maybe?

Posted by: merlin666

I had the ##dialup enabled on the phone, also added a serial port in widcomm (COM4) and configured it as Bluetooth Modem (also tried Bluetooth Fax Modem) in the Phone and Modems option in CP selecting the Widcomm Bluetooth Modem from the list. However, when I query the modem in diagnostics "it failed to respond". This might be the problem ... now how to turn the modem on?

Also, do I have to enable any bluetooth services on the phone?

You should have to add a serial port in widcomms software. If you have ##dialup enabled, then the DUN profile should be one of the supported profiles (when you click on the phone icon after its paired). Double click on the DUN profile (close the connect to internet window if it opens). Try setting it up that way, and see if the modem responds.
Alternatively, you can right click on the BT icon in the system tray, select DUN, and look for it that way. It'll automatically set it up as a modem.

Thank you for all the suggestions. Unfortunately, none of the services can be detected on my e815. I suspect the cheap ICCS dongle I have purchased is not working for this purpose.
