Nokia 6590i review

Here's some thoughts on the 6590i:
It's UNLOCKED! I can use my T-mobile card.
All the features & settings work. I had to set the GPRS/SMS for T-mobile, but no problems. I notice the GPRS is a bit faster than the 7210's. I receive SMS messages w/ no problems.
The phone is smaller than the 7210, very easy to carry.
Signal strength is really good. We were at the Rose Parade, had no problems making calls, 'cept round midnight, when I think many people were calling others to wish them a Happy New Year.
Battery life seems to be good. I figure it will take about 4-5 days for next charge. Even inside buildings, the signal strength is like 3+ bars most times. Never got a no signal at all, even inside a mall.
Sound quality is very good. No white noise at all, like the 7210. Very little digital static, that I noticed.
Voice recorder works great, only thing I don't like about it is, I need to scroll down a bit to use this feature.
Games are nice, haven't tried the Nokia bowl yet. But the pinball is a nice time waster.
Keypad is okay for use, even in SMS typing. The keypad for the 8390 is easier to use though.
EFR works w/ this phone also.
Haven't tried the FM radio, but I like this feature.
Calendar is nice, it shows the whole month. But there is no "reminder" to pick from.
The screen is easy to read. The blue backlight is easy to see also. Not too bright, like adding aftermarket LED's.
You can switch from an analog to digital clock for the screen saver. Screen size is small, but you can read w/ no problems.

GRIPES: No spots for downloadable ringtones. No way to compose either. Probably w/ the data suite you can, but I don't have the cable for this yet. The standard ringtones are good, some new tones are available. But the basic "ring, ring" is there.

All in all, I'm very happy w/ the phone. If you're in the market for a small/compact Nokia, this is a very good model. Nokia did real good w/ this phone. All the features are very similar to the 7210. Except for the screens.

hello..i'm thinking of trading my t68i w/an unlocked 6590i...this will work in the states, right? i know the "i" designation was more for canada and the regular 6590 for the states. just wanna make sure that an unlocked 6590i will work here in the states.

thanks.

Just to point out a few things:

Voice recorder works great, only thing I don't like about it is, I need to scroll down a bit to use this feature.

Instead of scrolling through the menus to activate it you can assign a voice command to it. Then you can simply hold the "names" button at the main screen and say "recorder" (or whatver you set) to start recording.

GRIPES: No spots for downloadable ringtones.

You definitely CAN download ring tones. I currently have 3 tones that I have downloaded and saved in my phone. It does not have a seperate folder that you can save them to or manage them from but it does save them among the ring tones that are already in the phone and I believe you can save up to 10 additional ones.
When you receive a downloaded ringtone you have the option to playback, discard, and save. When you save it you can create a name for it and it then gets stored among the default tones the phone came with.
You can also compose and download tones into the phone using the data suite(I have not tried this myself yet).

Glad you are happy with you phone, I love mine as well

TO IGROOVEL.A.,
Yes the 6590i works in the states. I am in Southern Cal, no problems.

To Moonlord,
Thanks man, I figured out the things you pointed out......very cool little phone, indeed.

Thanks guys, anyone interested buying this Nokia model, you'll be very happy. But I do prefer an aftermarket 8390 faceplate & keypad. The buttons, especially the answer & end button are a tad bigger on the aftermarket 8390 keypad. I've accidentally hit the wrong key trying to answer a call. So the remedy is the 8390 faceplate & keypad. Actually the other keys are also a tad bigger, so easy to dial & use other features.

I just wish in the Calendar, there isn't so many steps to leave yourself a message.

I think of getting this phone, the 6590i as it is now available at some Rogers resellers here in Québec; the price is now 125$CAN with a 2 years contract plan and you receive a 50 to 100$CAN rebate but the phone is locked.
