Gd88 Leds

Anyone here know much about modding the gd88 i dont really like the old skool green for the keypad. When the battery is removed there are to T6 (mercedes looking) screws. When these screws are undone is it possible to access the leds. Is is easy to replace the leds with a different one. I reckon a blue or white backlight would look insane.

Nokia afficionados know lots about leds swaping...
i don't think i would like to loose warranty for a white or blue keypad !!!

Again, it goes back to the screwdriver. I have not found one that will work with this type of screw. Normally you can use a small flat screwdriver to get it to work but in this case, I have only managed to scar the screw. If you can get the cover apart, then it is a simple matter to replace a LED

Yah i know where i could get a torx screwdriver to fit it in Brisbane but on the net http://www.nokialight.com/torx.html But are they any specific kind of leds? cos i heard if the wrong types are used they might blow the phone what size should they be?

wouldnt do this type of mod myself, its not expensive to get someone to do it anyway

It is not star shaped, and it is not a Nokia. Panasonic owns the rights to this screwhead. It may be a while before a generic screwdriver is available. As for the LED, lets get the covers apart and look at the part number on the LED. Then we can find an appropriate LED.

i doubt you'll blow the phone if you put any ol LED in there...

LEDs are just diodes. if you install them backwards, no current will flow and the worse that will happen is that there's no light from the LED

as for the specs of the LED, take a multimeter and measure the foward bias voltage. i doubt you'll really have to though. most leds have a similar forward bias voltage

oh, and if the new LEDs wont handle whatever voltage the phone sends to the LED, the worse that will happen there is that the LED will prolly die. no smoke or damage to the phone though.
