W800i Freezes at Power On, Need Help!!!

Hey i have a w800i got it overseas in Europe. Everything was working great until last night i removed my sim from the phone to try it on one of my other phones. When i went to put the sim back in the phoine and turn it on, it would always freeze at the Sony Ericsson logo. I thought my phone was dead, i wasn't even able to power it off. Had to remove the battery to do that. So i even tried updating the firmware which was already updated before.

Then i decided to power on the phone, it frooze again i left it on and then had a dumb idea of removing the memory stick, and the phone worked went right in to the boot menu to choose phone or walkman.

The Phone freezes if i have the memory stick in the slot when i power on. I can insert it after in the slot, but it doesnt work when i go to camera mode it says please insert the memory stick, but it is inserted.

Anyone know what can be wrong is the memory stick screwed up or the slot screwed up. And does sony offer good RMA service.

If the master reset does not work, you will need a memory card reader to format.

I have a memory card reader but it no longer recognizes the memory stick when inserted. Is there anyway of bringing the memory stick back to life. Looks to me as it might be toast.

Does the memory card reader at least "see" the memory stick?

In an explorer window, right mouse click the appropriate removable disk, then format.

I am not able to format it!! Memory card reader doesnt recognize the card. Its gona for good unless there is someway of getting it to recognize but have tried a couple different readers and same result doesnt get recognized its like if nothing is there so therefore cannot format.

Gfreire,
Did you ever get this resolved? I have exactly the same problem at the moment. I have tried other memory sticks that work in other devices but nothing works.
I have reformatted the memory stick on my PC and the PC can see the files etc using the built in card reader, but nothing when I put in back in the phone.

I would be interested to know if you came up with a solution.
Cheers.

its the memory stick man. there was a bad batch of them that got put into some w800i's. same thing happened to me. just buy another memory stick and it will be fine. mine has been fine for months now.

yeah, likely it was the memory stick. There was a fault with early firmware on european models at least that fried the memory card if the fone was interrupted when accessing the card. Not sure if this was the case on USA fones, but I know cos it happened to me the first day I had my w800! to be honest, i love the w800 but well its caused me so many problems im cracking up! 3 new fones and the latest is in for repair for its 3rd time. Very disheartening. Trying to squeeze an upgrade to a w810 outta my provider!!! wish me luck.

ps nowt u can do to revive the card.

Actually, the Memory Card is fine. It works in other phones and on my PC. I have reformatted the card using my PSP and it is works perfectly... just not in my W800i. Other cards do not work in the phone either.
It is a Hong Kong delivery phone. I have had it almost 12 months and it has been perfect. I dropped it into the service centre this afternoon to get fixed, and in true Hong Kong efficiency they turn around repairs in 4 hours so I will let you know the results tomorrow.
Thanks for the feedback.

For me it was the memomry stick tried the one that came in my bro's w800i and everything worked fine. But i need to buy a new memory stick as it is fried. Wont read on the PC either.
Good thing is the phone works great. I would rather be out a memory stick then a phone.

The problem... unfortunately, was moisture damage on the PCB (a couple of transistors associated with the memory stick reader). I took it around the corner to a dodgy Chinese phone shop, sold it and bought a W810i. A great phone which is for the most part a repackaged W800i.
Thanks again for your help.
