Buzzing Noise on SLVR L7 When Talking?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: djmpower

My brand new SLVR seems to have a slight buzzing noise that is noticeable during calls when the other party is quiet - it sounds like a transmitting buzzing noise. I can hear it through the ear piece or when using the hands free. The other person that I am talking to has complained about being able to hear it as well.

Does anyone else have this problem? Is mine defective?

Thanks

from time to time. I experience that too but that's just with the earpiece not handsfree

Are you talking about the infamous GSM buzzing noise? I noticed some GSM phones buzz louder than the others. The V600 I used with T-Mobile was loud, and not as loud with Cingular. Then later, the V635 I used with Cingular was quiet, well, 99% of the time. And when I put the T-Mobile sim in it, loud again. Maybe other who have the L7 can comment.

no buzzing sound here ( knock on wood )

I get mine on Monday. So maybe I can shed some light for feedback then?

i got some buzzing noise too, i noticed that too. hoping a new firmware fixes this problem.

I've got the buzzing noise REALLY bad sometimes, but it doesn't sound like a unique phone problem, it just sounds like the "GSM buzz," but really loud. Worse than on any other phone I've ever had.

I should mention that I adjusted the gain table with P2k. I might put it back. The phone has a really weak earpiece, so I turned the gain up to 4. The buzz was there before, but I couldn't hear it as loudly. Of course, I couldn't hear my callers either.

Anyway, I've had a few GSM phones that had it bad, and some that weren't so bad. So far, this one is pretty bad.

Hi
I remember reading a post about buzzing phones and the actual phone a user was complaining about was a Motorola V3 Razr, and they stated that after jsut a few days of owning the phone that it had began to have a sl;ight buzz to it, and although it was not a real problem, but just annoying because of the heavy price mark, but i believe it was some slight technical hitch and i got a Motorola Razr V3 myself and i have never heard it myself, so it may have been that there was an initial problem where the phone was open, the trouble was something touching the contacts on the inside works of the phone and causing the buzzing, i am not a phone engineer or specialist but some things are easily worked out, if you think about it.

I still like the Razr althoyugh the 5mb on board memory is terrible (come on Motorola we live in a very information based world and need to have lots of storage space) for the money, and yes before you all say in the thread i could hack or mod my phone, but i do not want to do that to my beautiful Razr.

Take care

Update on my SLVR - travelled around some yesterday, made a few calls out and about on purpose to test it.

It did not buzz anywhere I was at. I now realize that it is only buzzing sometimes at home. Looks like it might just be the service for whatever reason. Maybe I'm on an 850 tower sometimes and a 1900 tower sometimes, I'm not sure.

Our Cingular network locally isn't "integrated to 410" or whatever yet, so it's a little wacky sometimes.

All in all though, I thought I'd let you all know that it isn't the phone. After the earpiece volume hack, I've got no complaints, I really love this thing!

I am not sure of everyones location. But if you have a wirless router, cordless phone, baby monitor, or anything else around you like that you will get the buzzing sound. I just got off the phone with a friend, while around my router it was buzzing and when I went to tht kictchen, no buzzing..

samething happening to me, outside of my home i get no buzzing, soon as i get home around my wifi router i get the buzzing. So i'm guessing wifi is causing the buzz.

Are you sure you guys aren't talking about the buzz generated by the illuminated keypad? On the RAZR, the keypad lights cause an audible buzz. Does the SLVR do this?

Posted by: nadroj

Nope, definitely not from the keypad illumination.

Wife's pink RAZR does that really bad (stops for the most part during a call), I just tested with that, and this doesn't do that at all. It was definitely the "GSM buzz" or whatever the 200 hz or so interference is.

I have made about 50 calls now, and it's only been on a few, so it's actually pretty decent. When it happens, it's LOUD, but when it doesn't it's fine, which is most of the time.

I don't have a RAZR or a SLVR, I have a V360 and the only time I have this problem, is around my router, cordless phone, baby monitor and ohter electronics like that...

Tested some more today, out in a fringe area here in Michigan, and no buzz.

I must say, however, that this thing got really choppy where my old Nokia 6230b worked okay. Sucky.

Posted by: fortunate2001

Different buzzing, but you know the one that comes out your computer speakers when the phone is near the speaker wires.... well the SLVR is making more noise this way than any other phone I've had since my Nextel 10 yrs ago.

Posted by: nadroj

Update - I told you all the SLVR was muddy when I went to a fringe area where it usually worked fine.

Well, in my office, especially with the phone in my pocket, I would lose all signal a lot, or have only one bar. About 75% of my calls went straight to voicemail.

Took it into Cingular, all was fine with the phone, and I told them the reception sucked. They swapped me to a Nokia 6682, and I now get 4-7 bars in my office, and it works great in my pocket.

I hope you guys have a better experience than I had, hopefully my SLVR was just in a bad batch. My wife is on her second Pink RAZR because the first one went on the total fritz the day we got it.

What is up with Moto's QC?! Are they making these phones too thin with too close of tolerances for their QC/QC departments (in China I'm sure) to keep up with?

Anyway, I've been a long-time Motorola (and Blackberry I guess) user, hacker, seem-editor, etc. I miss that, but the S60 OS on the 6682 kind of makes up for some of it. I must say though, this is a much better phone.

I also have this Buzzing problem. I am doing some tests with my wireless router etc... to see if I can get rid of it. It happens on most of my calls, and come to think of it, all my calls from home and maybe not away from home. (I have only had it for a few days.)

I also noticed if i held the phone one way, it got louder, and if I moved my hand down from the top of the phone, it got quieter. hmm...

If is it the router, are there settings that we can set to stop the interference? I alreayd have "interference robustness" on.. what else can I do? thanks!!!

Posted by: neonbright

You have to change the channel your router is on... I am not sure what channel you will need to use but most routers go up to 11 to 12 channels. This is done online though the router IP address settings.

Posted by: cmacartney

Is there a specific channel that interferes with he SLVR? One that I should avoid? I had my router set on automatic, and then I set it to channel 1. I have gotten 2 calls since, and one had the buzzing, and one didnt. weird...

Posted by: cmacartney

also.. do you think using the interference robustness option could cause the buzzing?

Posted by: Donkey

I have tried a few Motorola and Nokia GSM phones in the past, some was louder than others. I know the router or some other would cause it, but with most except the V635, there's a buzzing when I used them just about everywhere, even in a park. To me, the V635 was the quietest one. But I sold it since I don't use Cingular anymore. My job have provided me a new phone.

Try channels 6-9 and see what happens. I cannot say for sure what channel will work for you best. Do you have a cordless phone in the house or baby monitor? If so the 2.4ghz interferes the most.

I have a V3 RAZR and it makes this buzzing sound you are talking about. I am on my 3rd V3. Cingular keeps sending me them and they keep makin th esound. The first phone I had was fine at first then about 2 weeks in it started making the sound about 50% of the time. They sent me another one, this one was fine for the first month and a half or so. This one got so bad that it started to do it all the time every call. Just got this 3rd one last week. Was fine until 2 days ago. Started the buzzing again, but not nearly as bad as the last phone and not as bad as the 1st phone. This one seems to pick and choose when and how loud. It does it all over the place, but like I said it only does it about maybe 25% of the time. I have a feeling though that the longer I keep this one the longer and louder the sound will get.

Posted by: cmacartney

the buzzing is stopped! thanks... i just changed the channels on my router to 10 I think. (no cordless phones or baby monitors.. yet!)

I had the RAZR with verizon and that thing buzzed when i wasn't even talking on the phone! If i just opened it up, it was buzzing. So if it does that, I think its just the phone.
