Getting "New" Media Net and Cingular Java programs on unbranded Motorola phones

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: dkhomdds

This is a ? for those who have a Motorola V635 and using Cingular......

Do you get the "New" Media Net Home page (The one with your local weather and a news headline on top) or do you still get the "Old" Media Net Home page (The one with a list of things to select eg....1. What's Hot 2....3.....etc...)??? If you get the "New" page please post your 0032_0001 seem. I am trying to figure out what is going on here and how cingular is able to figure out which home page to send to us.....I think its a seem edit but I am not 100% sure......Would like to compare some seems with from v635's that have the new home page and my seem that does not get the new home page.......

Thanks

Posted by: bobolito

Yes, Cingular "knows" if you have a branded or unbranded phone so it can decide which page to send you. My V635 displays the old MediaNet page. I don't think this is something that can be fixed with a seem edit.

I've noticed that in some pages there's a command at the bottom that says "Add to MediaNet Home" and when I select that it says that my phone doesn't support that feature.

Isn't there some way to change the browser string on these Moto's via seem edit? If you change a V635's string into say a V551's you should be able to see the new MediaNet (or the graphical mMode).

Maybe ask the same question in the Moto forum...

hmmm I think there is a way I think there is a seem that's on XLR8's map that has something to do with the hardware version.......But I think there more to it, For example Cingular branded V3's have no problem with the "new" page, but some "Unbranded" V3 owners have reported that they also see the "old" home page.....I think it has something to do with the flex and hopefully a seem edit......

Posted by: xlr8

No, bobo, it can be fixed with a simple seem edit. I thought it was common knowledge how to do this. Someone else posted it a while ago, I think.

In any case, it's easy and here's what you do: you just have to set your phone's model number to one that Cingular supports. That information is stored in seem 0117_0001. If you change the info in that seem from V635 to V551, voila! You get the new MEdia Net page.

If you want to install java games you bought from MEdia Net (but why would you want to waste your money), you have to install the Cingular security certificates, which I have packaged for everyone's convenience into a ZIP. They get uploaded to the /a/mobile/certs/root/x509/kjava folder. Be sure to set the attrib to '4' after uploading.

Of course, if you use mobile phone tools, a V551 will show up as the skin. And your phone will be identified as such in P2Kman. But it doesn't do any harm other than that.

Posted by: xlr8

Helps if I post the ZIP. Heh heh.

Thanks XLR8 for your input...

The Cingular certs file are the same from a V600??? I had copied them over from a v600 and put on my v635 and things did show up in the certificate folder, also I moved my /a/Root_cert file from the v600 to the v635 and now I also have the "interoprea" certicate on the v635.....

Thanks for your help again!!! without your map I would hate these motorola phones the way they come stock OEM!!!!!

Posted by: bobolito

XLR8, you are a genius! All I had to do was change the V635 data to V551 and then reset the cache and changed the startup to "Retrieve" instead of "Store". After that the new MediaNet came up.

I will install the certificates later on. Thanks!

dkhomdds, if you use XVi32 as your hex editor, when you look at the right panel where the hex is displayed in ASCII you will see V 6 3 5. All you have to do is click directly on those digits and change them to 5 5 1. You will see the left panel change to the corresponding hex values.

Posted by: xlr8

The certs I have packaged came off a V551, and they were exactly the same as the ones that were on my V400. I would surmise that they are the same for all Cingular-branded motos.

UPDATE: I installed the certificates, tried to download Mobile E-mail which is a free application from Cingular and after I received the Browser Message with the link, I selected "Go to" but it gave me an error message saying "Authentication Error: Application not installed." Sounds like it needs something else besides the certificates. Before installing the certificates, the phone would say "Page Not Found" when trying to download the same thing.

Yes, I changed the attributes and verified that they were changed to '70004' for all three certificate files.

Posted by: bobolito

.....HOWEVER.....I forgot that as with everything else, you need to reboot the phone, so after I rebooted it I tried again and it downloaded just fine! Silly me! LOL! The only thing is that now it won't install. Oh well!

Thanks for helping us 'Cinguarize' our unbranded flex.

If you have another cingular branded phone around and look at the certificates there is also a "interopera" certificate. This has nothing to do with the mini opera browser. But something about nokia's open WAP format that everyone is trying to adopt, I am not on my home PC now so I can not u/l it. But if you have a cingular branded moto you can try and copy over to the v635 the file /a/Root_Cert which has it in it....give that a try........I have it on my v635 (file from my Cingular v600) and works well. I still have to get home and change my 0117_0001 to V551......(perhaps V557??? since thats in there lineup now???)

Posted by: bobolito

So what does that certificate allows me to do?

Posted by: xlr8

I didn't know people didn't know how to do this. I really thought someone had posted all about this. I feel bad for having 'horded' the information. I've had new MEdia Net working since Cingular sent me the message saying I had it... and I keep the security certifs installed just in case Cingular tosses out a 'branded' app I like.

@dkhomdds: I don't have an "interopera" certificate. Here's what I have:
kjava:
cinpref
cintrust
cinttp
motman

ssl:
entrust
fotarootca
gte_cyber
rse
thwate
thwateprem
verisign_cls3
verisign_g2
verisign_g3

You will not see it under those 2 folders.......(if you using P2Kman or such)

If you got to settings>security>certificate Mgmt>root certs. You will see what you have listed and interoprea right before the 1st Cingular cert....I download /a/Root_Cert and looked at it with "Notepad" and you can see that it has the Verisign Certs in it and also this interoprea cert in....you can just copy it over to the V635 and reboot the phone.....

I do not know what it does, however the interoprea cert does expire in a few months....I just wanted to input this just in case if it did anything to help with downloading things from the Cingular sites.....Since it was on the cingular branded phones and not the unbranded one......So far it has not caused me any problems with my v635.....

Posted by: bobolito

xlr8, I have the same exact certificates. Have you tried installing the Mobile Email java program that Cingular has? I downloaded it twice to my phone and both times it says: "Authorisation Failed: Application Not Installed"

There must be something else we need to get it working, something that Cingular flexes have. I don't have the interopera cert. that dkhomdds is talking about.

Posted by: xlr8

OK - grabbed the ROOT_CERTS file from a Cingular V600 flex and loaded it into my V635. I now have that 'interopera' certificate. When I attempt to download/install either mobile e-mail or mobile IM, I get a 502 Page Cannot Be Found error. Maybe MEdia Net is having problems right now.

Posted by: xlr8

Root certs file attached.

Ok! I got my phone to trick it to a v551, now I get the "New" media net page!!!

I am also having the Auth Fail etc... thing after I try to get the "Java Email" program....Does anyone have a v551 to see if the program works on a real v551....Perhaps it has something to do on the Java end and not the browser end, since it was downloaded as a .jar file, and then fail to load....

Also I have been comparing my 0032_0001 seem from my v635 and v600 with the P2K Advanced Editor. There are a few if not alot of different settings that deal with the browser between the two........

thanks for this info i will do it monday and see whatsup. i've been trying to get the v635 to download crap forever from mediamall.

It appears the download of Mobile Email is very sensitive to any difference in your phone. They have all kinds of security features to make sure only the right phones download it. So an error message saying the Page Cannot Be Found doesn't really mean that. I used to get that message sometimes before installing the certs. Some other times I would get the "File not Found" message.

Another thing is that the link they send you in the browser message has a code in the end that expires. If you wait too long (I think 48 hours) then you can't download it and gives you some stupid error message. Always make sure you get a new link from the web site before trying to download it.

UPDATE: I uploaded the ROOT_CERTS to my phone and now I have the interopera certificate. Tried to download/install Mobile Email and the same thing happened. It downloaded successfully but it could not install due to "Authorisation Error". Yes, it says "Authorisation" instead of "Authorization" because my flex is European and speaks British. The funny thing I noticed is that the expiration date of the interopera certificate is 7/31/06. So it only has a few months to live!

Can you guy tell me if you have this on your phones

Seem 0032_0001
offset 36 bit 4 -> on
offset 4d bit 5 -> on
offset 4d bit 6 -> on
offset 56 bit 0 -> on
offset 58 bit 4 -> off
offset 5c bit 7 -> off
offset 5E bit 0 -> on
offset 6D bit 7 -> on
offset 80 bit 1 -> on
offset 80 bit 5 -> on

I am trying to see if any of these or a combonation of these can help.....

Also did you guy notice that I think after you hit the d/l button it will ask you to "install" something from Cingular LLC.... (I think that may be a new certificate) I have not been able to delete the certificates from my kjava folder since I not a home again. But perhaps its tryin to load a new cert 1st then it d/l's the java program.......So if you have time to confirm this before I get home again....try to delete the cingular certs from kjava and d/l the apps again from cingular.....

also have you guys been getting alot of "Data Server not Available" errors???

thanks

Just wondering if anyone out there has the 3 Cingular Cert Files and the Root_cert file from a Cingular branded V551.........

Maybe its in there???

Posted by: xlr8

The three cingular certs I posted above are from a V551, Cingular branded. The root_certs file I had to pull out of a V600 flex I had. I will try to get a V551 root_certs file, but I would expect it is exactly the same as the V600 one.

Great if you can get the Root_cert file from a v551 perhaps that may help (a long shot, but hey who knows)....

I have tried to play around with turn on/off many of the combonations of the seems I was refering to and none of them help ... I got them from P2K Advance Editor, and they did not show up on your map.txt...Where did they get there info from???

Has anyone been able to get the Mobile Email program to install ?

i'm having this same problem with an unbranded nokia 6230. i even copied and installed app's from a cingular branded 6230 and they still won't run.

dkhomdds, here's what I have in those offsets you asked in my V635, same exact configuration as xlr8:

So far I have not been able to load up the email or im program....same error. I have tried with and without the cert files and different seems on and off. All with no luck with the load of those 2 programs....

I was able to get "Ringtones" and Wallpaper without a hitch....I think this has something to do with the Java side of things, b/c it will download to the phone and just error while loading....

Posted by: xlr8

Hrm... so I went to MEdia Net today, tried again. Complete success! No error when trying to load the page (like before), JAR downloaded, installed perfectly. This was Mobile IM. I went back and tried Mobile E-Mail. Worked fine! I have my phone identified as a V551 with the Cingular 'kjava' security certifs installed along with the root_certs file from a cingular flex.

did you get the root file from a cingular v551??? if so please post....

thanks...

yea xlr8 can you post your exact files so we have one place to get the files?

Same root_certs file I was using before - from V600. And all the files are attached to previous posts in this thread.

did u change anything eles? i used all files posted and still a no go 4 me

Posted by: xlr8

Didn't change a thing. Before, I couldn't even get to the download page because of a 502 error or whatever. Cingular apparently fixed that, and once I downloaded it, it installed just fine.

Posted by: IlKevinlI

I used all the files posted and changed my 635 to v551 (seem) and I still won't install. It downloads fine but gives an "authentification" error when trying to install.

What Flex are you running on your V635?
Can you post or send me your 0032_0001 and 0117_0001 seems. I would like to compare it with what I have with P2KAE and see if you have things that are different from the one I have.....

I'm using Yagers MP for my v635 and still getting the Auth Error...Can't install.....

Bobolito what flex are you running on your v635??? are you still unable to d/l the IM and Email java programs???

Posted by: Erhard

I figured out a way to get at least Mobile IM working on my V635. I have a friend who has a V3, and he downloaded the application, I then used P2Kman and MotoKit to eplore and download the .jar file for Mobile IM. Since I didn't have my Data cable for my V635, I uploaded it from my computer to a website, and then navigated to that website with my v635 and downloaded it and intalled without a hitch. However, when running the app it would not connect to the net. After searching the web sessions folder, I found one that was named 'Java Sessions' which had setting other than cingular, so I changed the settings to cingular settings and restarted the phone and it all works fine. I assume this would work with the e-mail program, but why would anyone want to use that, it doesn't even support attachments? Hope this is helpful! Oh I have my 0017 seem to show a V3 and I see the new Media net as well. (I do not have any of the cingular certificates installed)

My Flex: SE5188AXXP10E6

I got the Mobile IM working a long time ago. Someone had posted the JAR file here and I just sent it to my phone via cable and it installed just fine. I didn't have those certificates back then. The problem is the Mobile Email program. That's the one I can never get to work. It downloads fine but then it won't install.

I searched for the mobile im jar file for a while, found no hits. Guess I need a lesson in searching, or maybe a bit of luck. Is the E-mail program better than the built in client in the phone? Do you have the .jar file for the e-mail?

Lots of great info in this thread. Thanks for the research (and common sense fumbling around of the phone file structure)

I tried downloading the Multiplayer WPT Holdem game from Cingular with my Unbranded V3, and needless to say I got the "Authorization Error" before I could even download the JAR file.

I got pointed to this thread, and after reading I installed not only the 3 Cingular certs posted, but the ROOT_CERTS file that was posted. I checked and changed the attributes to 4, rebooted the phone and I still cannot get the application installed. The file will now download (100K each try, eating up my monthly alotment of KB's!) but as it goes to "Installing" it gives me the same error "Authorization Error. Application not installed." I even tried clearing the history, cache, and cookies. I have verified in [Settings ->Security->Cert Management->Root Certs] that I have two Cingular Certs listed (With padlock icons by them) and the Interopera cert. I also have a USIllinois cert with a lock by it as well.

I checked my 0117 seem, and the phone type is set to V 3.

Another MEdianet problem I'm having is that my phone tries to display the new MEdianet page, but it says "Sorry. MEdianet is experiencing technicial difficulties. Please try again later. Error: 1005" I still can't figure this one out (This might not be related. I stuck the SIM in my mothers Cing branded V3 and I still get the same error.)

I don't know why I'm able to get these two apps to install and no one else can. That's so odd. In any case, here's a zip of the jad/jar for mobile e-mail. Maybe this will get it working for you.

Do happen to have the mobile IM java to??? I can't seem to find the one the other poster was talking about in the past on hofo.....

Yeah for some reason I'm still unable to D/L the two files....I have not attempted to purchase any other applications from Cingular to see if they are also failing to "Install". Maybe we need to be "Provisioned" by cingular????? I remember seeing somewhere on there site about blocking this feature.......

Sure. http://xlr8.us/hofo/mobileim.zip

I've included the .pat file in here, which I think contains a app-specific security certificate in it. That might be why it crashes so often if you don't install through the Cingular site.

Posted by: IlKevinlI

What folder does the .pat file go in ????

I tried installing the MobileEmail you posted with PKTools, it shows up in the Java programs, but when I try ti install it, I get an "Application Error"

Thank you.....

Did you also change the Seems to reflect a v551's Flash and Flex's???? not just the model# in 0117_0001??? Also was your cingular account setup with a V551 as your phone??? Still trying to figure out while you are the only one to get this working....

Wouldn't we want the V635 to identify with Cingular as an E1? With a Transflash the E1 would fit better. Every flexing guide I've ever seen has said do not use the triplets software ever at all. I'd like ot try and edit seems but I'm not quite brave enough yet :/

You'll need to read a bit more I think. We are not using a triplets software here......Just jump right into seem editing it. Your not a true modder untill you "Brick" yourself a phone for the 1st time!!!

I guess I'm not a true modder... I've never bricked a phone.

Did not change seems to a V551 flash/flex. Simply updated 0117_0001 and installed the root_certs and the kjava certs. My account at Cingular was setup with V551 as my GSM phone. My 'default' phone is my Nokia 6340i for GAIT access so I can have the ESN in there to get TDMA/analog coverage. I don't know why it works for me and no one else.

OK... a thought. And this might be it. I'm a lazy guy. When I upgraded to the V635, I didn't reinstall my java apps because of all the hassle of getting new activation codes for each of the apps I paid for. I just copied the entire kjava folder over from my V551 and it worked just fine. Then I reinstalled the MP3 player, and it still worked after giving it appropriate permissions (in the pat file). Try tossing this file into your kjava directory. Maybe it'll work. It seems to have some Cingular-ish stuff embedded in it.

I have a good feeling this is the key. Let me know how it turns out. You will probably be able to download and install direct from MEdia Net this way.

Yes installed the file and now I can d/l from medianet and install the im and mail java apps on a v635 (Thinks its a V551). Thanks! No problems now!!!

Posted by: -DZ-

Bingo! That's it. Installed that file in my KJava, set the attribute to 4, rebooted and downloads now work!

Awesome!

Posted by: xlr8

Well, that appears to be it. Apparently you need to do the following, although some might be overkill, but it won't hurt to do them all:
Set 0117 seem to identify as a phone Cingular supports (V3 or V551 or whatever)
Upload 'cingular branded' root_certs file, set attrib to 4
Upload missing 'cingular branded' kjava certs, set attrib to 4
Upload 'cingular branded' j2me_domain_registry, set attrib to 4

With this, you'll have an unbranded phone but with access to branded games, ringtones, apps, etc.

Posted by: bobolito

What do I do with the pat files?

Anyway, this is definitely an award winning thread! It qualifies for the Cingular FAQ forum. After placing the j2me_domain_registry file in the kjava folder I downloaded MobileEmail and it installed with no problems. Thanks xlr8!

Posted by: xlr8

Well, since it installs properly, you won't need the pat files b/c they'll be created properly on install. The pat files contain another Cingular security certificate specific to the app, and also allow for "Full Access" to GPRS network, messaging, etc that you need in order to use the apps properly.

Posted by: Isriam

Question:

I edited 0117 with notepad and changed it from V635 to V551. I couldn't find a way to do this with the bits and whatnot, maybe you can help me if I did this wrong?

Also when I logged in I got new media net, but it says mobile IM and mobile email are not supported on my phone. Is that because I edited the 0117 wrong?

Posted by: xlr8

Probably so. You should use a hex editor to modify the 0117 seem.

Posted by: Isriam

can you tell me how? i used it, but all the offsets are numbers not relating to the v635 except the FF on the last 10 or so. I went through this thread and your map but saw nothing about it. Sorry just learned how to hex a few weeks ago.

Posted by: Isriam

actually you know looking on the far right, i see it says V 5 5 1 just like i edited in text pad. how should it look if i put in V3? or maybe you can upload your 0117

Posted by: Isriam

yep thats it. in pkman it shows device ???/.? <a>

can anyone be so nice as to upload their 0117? i didn't save a backup

Posted by: xlr8

See attached.

Posted by: Isriam

thank you. when you gonna learn how to work on nokia? i need to do this to my 6230 :P

Posted by: xlr8

I'm all moto through and through. No nokia. Sorry! The only nokia I own is the 6340i for GAIT access.

hey do you guys think we may have stumbled onto something here??? If we just figured that there are Security Cert Files, Root_Files, and the java permission files that is needed to run a couple of "Cingular Branded" Java apps.

What do you think about applying some of this know how to get lightplayer to work on a V635 that thinks its an "E1" or "Rokr" with all of the Cert files and stuff like that??? I am still going to listen to my mp3's via the sound menu, but perhaps this might be a better visual for us...

Anyone up to trying to get this going??? I may be reaching but??? hey who knows???

Posted by: xlr8

Is lightplayer a Cingular app?

I do not think so, but people are also having problems installing it and running it on a v635. "Application Errors".....

this thread is awesome, I just enabled AIM on my E398@ROKR because of you guys.

edit: am I not supposed to show up as a mobile device when using this java app ? Im a little confused. Oh well I guess I should be grateful for the workaround anyway.

Posted by: troyboy30

I guess it's too much to ask to just be able to backup my v3 cingular java apps and shoot em straight to the v3i! Or just copy the entire java folder over for that matter! lol Knew id have to mess with them dern security certs! X, clear your sched, you may be getting taken out to lunch finnally!

Posted by: troyboy30

Well I finnally gave up on the v3i. Set everything up correctly including phone identity as a V3, media net continued to tell me the apps where not available for my phone model. I even tried installing them with my file backups and they would run but had no carrier info....lost my DAP for a while also, but thats back so i'm done! I really liked the mobile email but it aint that important. X if you feel like giving it a shot gimme a call. You can help us with a new list of recommended gain table settings for the v3i while we at it, the old ones are wayyyy off! Bout time I put you to work! lol

Posted by: troyboy30

I got most of my backups to work, only one thats a pain is mobile email and i'm going to have to get it from media net it looks like. Gonna have to pull my 0117 seem from my v3 to cross check. Thats the only thing holding me up, even though p2ktools shows it as being a v3. X didnt you say something about a pat file for mobile email thats needed if its not downloaded?

Xlr8, PLEASE HELP ME! I have been to moto modders, & every where people have sent me; tried everything & read every guide, to my mounting confusion; i am a recent buyer of moto unlocked/unbranded v3i; i switched from t-mobile to cingular to accomodate family share time & mobile-to-mobile! i am new at this flexing/flashing/seeming thing. i have downloaded/uploaded to mass confusion of WEBSESSION/WEBPROXY files. all i want to do is get on MEDIA NET & CING MMS; I've been to website & they sent me files & they don't work/ called them & they don't support unbranded phones, let alone the v3i; do you have or know someone with a fix? i have your backup files & cert folder, but i was hesitant, cause i made such a mess of web sessions/proxys; i must have 7 folders of these & i can't remember which is my orig. (smile-an age thing); PLEASE HELP ME! Renee

Set 0117 seem to identify as a phone Cingular supports (V3 or V551 or whatever) *this was no problem
Upload 'cingular branded' root_certs file, set attrib to 4 *uploaded to /a/
Upload missing 'cingular branded' kjava certs, set attrib to 4 *uploaded to empty /a/mobile/certs/root/x509/kjava/
Upload 'cingular branded' j2me_domain_registry, set attrib to 4
*WHERE DOES THIS GO?? To /a/mobile/kjava/ or /c/mobile/kjava/ or a/mobile/certs/root/x509/kjava/ ???

I would appreciate any help anyone can give me.

I have been trying to load mobile e-mail on my v3i. Here's what I've accomplished so far:
I "installed" the mobileemail.jar in kjava (NOT in the a/mobile/certs/root/x509/kjava folder) using P2K. Not only didn't it work, but when I went to games, Asphault Urban GT showed an e-mail folder to the left of the name in the list and gave a corrupted file error message when I tried to run it. It prompted me to delete the file which I did not. I uninstalled mobileemial.jar and now the joystick icon shows next to the name of the game as before, but when I try to run it, I get a "The application is out date. Verify time and date settings in the initial setup." error message.
After installing the certificates, mobileemail.pat, mobileemail.jad, and mobileemail.jar in a/mobile/certs/root/x509/kjava, I get "Authorisation Error" when I go to MEdia Net (Which works perfectly) and try to download Mobile E-mail from Cingular. So.....

Question #1:Anyone know how I can make Urban GT run again?

Question #2:Where do I install mobileemail.jar on my phone?

Question #3: How can I get Mobile E-mail to work on my V3i?

Thanks in advance

Posted by: troyboy30

look up! lol

I gave up on mobile email, its a royal pain. I seem to remember XLR8 saying something about it having its own little security cert that gets installed during the download, but I never got a def. answer.

Are you installing mobile email with p2k??? or downloading it from Cingular???

If you follow the steps above with all the cert files and the kjava cert files and root file and etc.... You can get d/l from Cingular over GPRS. thats how I got it to work on my v635. Mobile IM also works, and I also d/l that from cingular via GPRS....I did not use P2k to copy over the 2 java programs, I only used it just for the cert, root, and the kjava cert files....

As to your icons, i think there is a icon file or a kjava file list somewhere. You might have to delete all your java files and reload them to get the icons back in order... or try to power off and on your phone 1st and if that does not work perhaps a "reset" of the phone. Worst case re-flash???

reread this whole post slowly and its in here....

Posted by: troyboy30

trust me, it will not work over media net GPRS.....I tried all the suggested steps.

Ok so your saying that when I go ino my Java programs and I bring up Mobileemail and mobile IM and use it to check my yahoo, AOL and MSN email and also IM people on AOL, yahoo and msn on my v635. I am seeing things or just conversing with my moto v635??? yeah right....

Trust me it works with Cingular and yes it works over GPRS.

If you want it to work try the steps again and follow them to the "T"...

Trust me it works....for me and other people just read again.....

Posted by: mrl859

Maybe not for the v3i? I cannot download from Cingular as I get an Authorisation Error message. One thought....how do I change the attribute with P2K?

dude I have followed them to a T and could not get mobile email to download from media net. I did get mobile Im and others to install using my backups, but could not get mobile email to work at all.

No i am not saying youre seeing things on you v635, but thats not a v3i is it? when you get the same results with a v3i, get back to me! lol

Dont have a v3i and I dont think I will get one anytime soon. I love my v635, and if it breaks I will get another one. Anyways I guess its a v3i thing???

When you say "install using backups" you are talking about using midway or some p2k program to transfer Mobile IM to your phone, and not download from Cingular, right?

I see you were on motox with the "medianet" thread on the v3i, I assumes you tried the "Websessionproxy" file? thats the only file that I think is unique. I did not change or add that to my v635...

yea I think its a v3i thing! I'm soliciting help from the master since he now has a v3i, but it's no great loss.

with the mem cards you can just drag and drop the .jar files to the kjava folder and install them from there.

yea i tried every file...my v3i was starting to believe it actually was a v3! lol

I have since MP'd the phone and just aint felt the need to bother with it. if its that important there will be a flex out soon enough im sure.

You got Cingular IM to install? How? Copy off another phone? And even after that Mobile e-mail won't download/install?

Posted by: troyboy30

used my .jar file backups from my v3 after spending almost an hour turning my v3i into a v3 using the steps outlined in this thread. and yes, even after that mobile email wouldnt dl or install! lol

some steps may not be needed? But it won't hurt to do them all.

set 0117 seem to identify the phone as a v3 (one cingular supports)
upload 'cingular branded' root_certs file and set attrib to 4
upload missing 'cingular branded' kjava certs and set attrib to 4
upload 'cingular branded' j2me_domain_registry and set attrib to 4

this should give you an unbraded phone but with access to branded games, ringtones, apps, etc.

Thanks to XLR8 and too many others to mention from HOFO for the run down.

all of the files are in my folder listed in my sig

it would probably help ya if my sig was listed hu! lol

Sounds simple enough (yea, right). How do you change the attribute of the certs? Which application do you utilize? Do you happen to have the jar files and necessary assorted other trash to reinstall the four pre-loaded java applications that I corrupted and deleted???????????????

Posted by: troyboy30

all setting a file to 4 means is to make it a system file....use P2KTools 0.8.6...find the file and highlight it...put a check in the system file box and click change. click restart to boot the phone.

heres an example using the gain_table

I asked in the other thread what java apps you had

Posted by: mrl859

Sorry, didn't see that other thread post yet. I had "Asphalt Urban GT", "Safe". "Solataire", and a fourth I absolutely cannot remember.

Posted by: troyboy30

DAP maybe?

pm me an email addy

Posted by: troyboy30

here never mind. I added a kjava.zip file to the folder in my sig. It has the following description

RAZR v3i stock java files (_C_mobile_kjava)

dl it, unzip it, and place all files in the /c/mobile/kjava folder with the new version of p2ktools.

then make all of them system files by highlighting them and checking the system file box and clicking change. click restart to boot the phone.

good luck, i'm out of here its my weekend! lol

Hmmm I'm having problems installing Mobile IM. I'm able to download it but when it tries to install, it says there's an "Invalid Port".

Not DAP. I've got itunes. Surely someone has a V3i that hasn't been mutated yet and knows what the four preloaded java applications are!

Posted by: bolshayaptica

I'm sorry -what is 0017 - how it set up

Posted by: Gunner1

I've been trying to get this to work with my GFs PEBL U6 and haven't been having any luck.

I edited SEEM 117 to show that the phone is a V551, and I uploaded all needed files and set ATTRIB value to 4 and even after rebooting I'm still getting a message when I try to access a game for her of "We're sorry but the product you requested is not currently available for your phone."

Anyone have any ideas?

Posted by: Gunner1

Interesting update to the situation. No matter how many times I tried to get this working last night, it wouldn't fly.

Re-booted the phone again this morning and now it works, just d/loaded a game she wanted and everything went smoothly.

Apparently there is something on the Cingular system that has to "cache out" before it recognizes changes made on the phone.

Are the kjava files in a: also supposed to be system files? Are ALL c: kjava files supposed to be system files?

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you backup your files from your v3i before you started to change things around??? If so just revert back to what you have......If not try to find someone with your same phone and if possiable the same flash/flex and ask them for a copy of what you had changed.....

Posted by: Gunner1

Ya, screwing around with the filesystem on your phone and editing SEEMs without doing a backup is a very foolish idea indeed.

HOW TO EDIT SEEM 117 ??????? What is it???

Posted by: mrl859

Okay. This is probably not the way most would do it, but it is one way to get where I need to go. I bought a 2nd V3i and I'll BACK UP EVERYTHING BEFORE I CHANGE ANYTHING and see if I can't reload what I need to get the itune-less V3i back to "stock".

Posted by: comphollic

hi all. ok I manage to follow the steps and successfully download Mobile IM via cingulars media net. I added the missing cingular certs, j2me_domain_registry, and root_certs into the a/mobile/certs/root/x509/kjava. I also added the root_certs in a/ directory. I set all files to attrib 4. Like I said, I managed to download and install Mobile IM on my SLVR L7. But, when i try to sign in AIM or msn, i get the following error. "Login failed! Please check connection settings (code:-2)" i would appreciate all the help.
thx

Posted by: mrl859

Just to confirm, am I correct that NOONE has been able to successfully download and install Cingular Mobile Email on a V3i?

Posted by: mdnichos

I used to get that login failed error code -2...

nowe i jusr get request failed.... any ideas???

Posted by: Swiat34

Ok, so I got this nice new PEBL and at first couldn't get into cingular's homepage. I corrected this by going into the settings - web access - web sessions area, setting up a new entry named "Cingular and copying the entry details from my V3 Razr and VIOLA! It worked however, I can't buy the ringtones without is say that it's not available for my phone. Now, there are two password spots below "user Name 1" below "CSD No. 1" and below "User Name" under "GPRS APN" that are 9 characters long and concieled be asterics that I don't have. Is this what I need? Anyone know what those passwords might be or how to get them? I apologize if this has been covered somewhere else but I've been reading this site for 2 hours and haven't seen it. All this talk of "Seem editing" has me lost as I've never peered into the world of cell phone hacking before! Thanks for you time.

Everything you need to know is right here in THIS THREAD you are posting in. Go back and read the thread and you will find the information you need on downloading the files and how to set the permissions properly.

You will also need to seem edit the phone to set the identity to appear as a RAZR or V551 or something else that Cingular recognizes as they won't permit downloads to phone types that aren't Cingular recognized.

Posted by: Swiat34

I don't know what seem editing is or how to download files or make it "look" like a RAZR to Cingular. I've read this posting and others more than 3 hours worth and I still don't understand what you're doing exactly. If someone would be so kind as to maybe send me a message to my personal e-mail to schedule a time to meet on MSN messenger or something to help me with this, that'd be awesome. I'm too "noob" at cell phone hacking to know what's going on or what exactly it is you're talking about in most of these posts. Sorry if I'm taking up space senslessly. If I am and it's a bother, someone fill me in and I'll close my registeration. Thanks for the info and sorry for the bother. Swat

Posted by: FreakyFranks

I have the programs and files needed, using p2kman shows v551 (/a?/b) at the top of the file directory. How do I select "a" or "b" directory? Also, it doesn't show the individual files in the right hand panel. I'm new to p2kman so bear with me. I've successfully modded to the lukoplast mp and hex edited the 0117 seem. One more step...

Never mind...I pulled out the memory card and BAM! I uploaded everything and it works great!

Attention MPT users:
After the hex edit from 635 to 551, your phone skin shows up as a 551 when using mobile phone tools. To fix this, just go into C:\Program Files\mobile PhoneTools\Skins and swap file names. Change the 551.inf and 551.png to 635.inf, 635.png, and change the 635 skin to 551. BAM! You get your cool 635 skin back!

Looks like everyone here completely ignored this post.

Last night I finally got around to changing my V635's model to a V551. Worked as advertized. I just now changed the model to a V620 and I STILL get the new Media Net Excellent.

Now MPT displays something in the same ballpark without having to mess with the skins. As it is, MPT 4.04b shows a V600 for a V635 as the V635 skin file wasn't updated for the new version (they're working on it)...

Posted by: FreakyFranks

Use the skin from an old version. Don't wait for them. Install an older version, take the skin files and put them on your desktop. Uninstall, then install 4.04b, then put the skin files in the MPT skin folder. BAM!

I've already been working with the gent (who happens to also live a couple towns over from me) that ran their 4.0 beta here. It should be fixed in the next update.

Besides, it's an awful lot of bother for a picture It doesn't affect whether MPT works or not. So it's not really high on my list...

It's merely a fix for the anal-retentive-phone-modder-hacker. HeeHee.

OK I'm not really sure what steps I have to take here but I just got my V3i and put all the MEdia settings in and everythine works but when i launch the browser my MEdia Net home page doesnt display correctly. Is there something in the phone I have to change to get it to display correctly?

Gee, I had to wait FOREVER for this fix...

In case y'all haven't noticed, MPT 4.21a is out and fixes the skin nicely...

Use the same settings from your slvr L7 and you'll be gtg!

Posted by: shortyd999

I had the settings sent to my phone from the Cingular website. I can access the internet and everything but MEdia Net home page doesnt display like it did on my L7. Like i cant select anything on the page

Ok another Q. I've been trying to upload the Cingular certs, roots and j2me to my phone but everytime i upload i get "GERENIC FAILURE"?????? Why is that? And what do i change in seem 0117_0001 to make cingular think i have a phone they support.

V3

V3i

when motox comes back up you can dl the edited seem instead of doing it yourself if needed. Or I can add it to my folder for you if you want. This edit should not be needed much longer or when cingular introduces the V3i

Hey shorty d...make sure you dont have your memory card in the phone while using p2kman. Read this forum thuroughly. It will show you how to hex edit that seem.

Having the memory card in the phone wont allow you to upload files in P2Kmsn?

you got me, 1st ive ever heard of that...never take mine out, never had a problem.

Posted by: FreakyFranks

It wouldn't let me. I got the same errors. I took the card out, then I could see the individual files in the right hand window. I uploaded the certs succesfully.

Posted by: shortyd999

I still recieve the same error msg

Posted by: shortyd999

So i used P2K Commander to upload all the certs file but i can for the life of me get the 0117_0001 seem to upload so it can recognize my phone as a V3

I used MotoKit to change it.

Well I used pk2man and it seemed to have worked so far as allowing me to get to the new Media.Net page, but p2kman and MPT don't recognize my phone as the V557 I changed it to. I used p2kman to download the seem and then used Notepad to change it, could this be the problem? If so, what should I have used? Also even though I get the new Media.Net page I still can't download either games or ringtones. Should I be able to or is that a lost cause?
Thanks!

Posted by: hytran

Did you even read the post before yours?

No downloading, no nothing. Just plug in the model in that you want to use and off you go with MotoKit.

Also note - a couple of us here are using V620 as our model and it works.

Posted by: Cappy68

I guess I just should have asked if Notepad was a bad app to use to edit it. I did however use XVI32 to edit my seem and still pk2man and MPT don't recognize the phone model, though entering the model manually in MPT did work. I'm just wondering why the model doesn't show up after the seem edit. Also I'm assuming that this seem edit is JUST for getting the new Media.Net but not for actually being able to download anything from Cingular as even with the model change and the upload of the Cingular certs I am still told that downloads are unavailable for my model of phone, so I guess you can fool Media.Net but you can't fool Cingular.

Edit: Maybe this is common info but in this model seem should it JUST be the VXXX model and nothing else? I have a bunch of y type letters after it and I'm wondering if they should be cleared out? I've never seem edited before and I'm don't know if these are supposed to be there or not.

Posted by: Cappy68

Nevermind to all that! Using your seem (for some reason my edited ones never showed the model right) now Cingular thinks I have a V551 and I have been able to download off Media.Net and also got Mobile IM and Email to download and run!

Thanks so much for expanding my use of my phone so I can actually use it fully with my carrier!

Posted by: bobolito

I did the same to my V635. Computers think I have a V551. Makes no difference to the operation of the phone. Glad it worked for you!

What did you do to get mMode to work? Use the Cingular certs?

I still have my AT&T Blue SIM and just bought an unbranded V3 and my mMode is missing some things... :-(

I added the certs, modified the seem (to V600) and now I see more stuff (likeMobiTV), but keep getting 500 error when I try to download it. :-(

Thanks!

I am getting strange errors myself with my V3i:

I edited seem 0117_0001 to make my phone a V3
Uploaded the roots_certs and set attribute to 4
Uploaded the kjava certs and set attributes to 4
Uploaded the j2me_domain_registry and set attribute to 4

I have been able to access the MEdia Net for months now, this wasnt the problem. I have been bored and I was looking for a specific ringtone so I decided to get the downloads working....

Originally, I was getting Page cannot be displayed errors (413 if I remember correctly)

I just deleted the files and started over and now it brought me to some cingular page with login info. I couldn't see the fields to enter the info though. It was all orange. Try again, and its back to error 413.

Anyone else experiencing what I am?

Like I said, its not a big deal because I wasn't going to download much anyway - I just hate not being able to get stuff working.

So i installed all the java root certs and stuff, and my media net works, but i installed opera mini and it says there is not an active internet connection. anyone know what to do about this? My default web session is already set to the one with all the cingular settings that lets me successfully get onto media net.

Posted by: rhutchi2003

okay I feel like an idiot but I haveno where else to go....I have an unbranded Razr v3 I also have cingular service. I have just recently changed the web session settings to be able to connect to media net and use MMS. All that is fine. But I am having trouble installing SOME games from the media net site. I downloaded and installed Tetrus just fine however when I tried to download and install "Orcs & Elves" (a new game from Lord of the Rings) I get an error message that says "authentication error application not installed" I am assuming it has something to do with certificates or such. I have downloaded the cingular certificate zip file you so kindly provided but have no idea where to go from there. I do not know how to "mod" my phone and have never heard of this (yes its true I am a newbe) can you help? Thanks

Not quite along the same lines here, but quick question about bluetooth on the V635. I can get my bluetooth headphones to broadcast sound for calls and video files, but not for java apps. Is this even possible? Not so much for the games, though having the sounds go through the headphones only would prevent too many others from being annoyed by my games but my java mp3 player can only play through corded headphones and the jack isn't the best so I was hoping I could listen to music through Motorola bluetooth headphones. Possible or no?

Posted by: budgirl574

Just wanted to say thanks a bunch for posting the cingular branded files and helpful instructions. I can now download games, ringtones, etc. from cingular on my unbranded L7. I tested eveything using their free & demo stuff. However, I don't think I'm going to buy anything from Cingular now since yesterday tech support told me I couldn't do this on a non-cingular phone. I just had to see if I could make it possible and with everyone's help, it was! Thanks again, especially to you xlr8!

I've tried all the steps on here and still get the "Authorization Error" on a v3xx.

I dunno if anyone has gotten java to work on a v3xx recently.
