THis is for a XV6700: 1) 1. Go to the PHONE application 2. Dial ##3328873 Press Send 3. enter code 000000 4. Select BT DUN and Wmodem 5. Click Edit 6. Choose enable 7. Push Save / OK 8. Push Ok 9. Follow the prompt to restart your device 2) On your PHONE, use the file explorer and go to your WINDOWS folder. IMPORTANT-->**Use the menu and check "show all files"** At the bottom (past all the folders) there are 2 files called WMmodem. Choose the larger size file and click to copy it. 3) Using the file explorer ON YOUR PHONE AGAIN, go to windows-> Program files and click to paste the file in this folder. DO A SOFT RESET! You now have easy access to your Winmodem.exe file under start menu-> Programs. Once you have done this, you can choose at a later time to put the file in your start menu for even easier access. You are now ready to go on the pda side of things. Now you must set up your computer. 1) The files you need are on your cd rom that came with your phone, not the wireless sync disc, the other one! Put it in your cd rom drive and use your PC window exporer to explore the cd and follow this path. OEM->APPS->Drivers->CDMA USB Modem. Here you will find instructions on how to set up and dial up once your done, as well as the 2 key files you will need on your computer. 2) Take the 2 files "CDMA USB Modem Dialer.exe" & "CDMA USB Modem.INF" and copy them. Go to your C: drive and create a folder, I named mine "CDMA USB Modem". Inside that folder, paste the 2 files you just copied. 3) Make a copy of the CDMA USB Modem Dialer.exe and place it on your PC desk top. This is what you will click on to dial up, when you are ready to go online! 4) Take the 3rd file named "CDMA USB Modem Usage.doc" and save it somewhere for easy access. You are now ready to go. I don't have my blue tooth usb yet, so I am using the cable. READ THE 3RD FILE MENTIONED ABOVE FOR EXACT INSTRUCTIONS on anything that I did not cover here. I simply wrote here what Verizon did not do. A couple of things, AND THESE WERE KEY TO GETTING UP AND RUNNING! Right click on your active sync icon in your task bar and go to connection settings. Uncheck the box that says "Allow USB Connections". Close. If you use wireless sync like me, or are connected to any data service, you must FIRST disconnect from the data connection. To do this, push and hold the red phone symbol on the front of your phone. It is the phone button that you push to hang up from a call. Make sure and do this after you have opened the Wmodem program on your PDA and are ready to go, otherwise your phone might reconnect before you get everything ready. You still will need to connect your phone to the computer and go through a few more steps. Follow instructions on the Wmodem screen, and in the set up file mentioned above and you will be off! I hope that this will simplify things for people looking to do what Verizon should already be doing. If I have missed something, let me know and I will add it in. The username is your phone number, including area code, followed by @vzw3g.com The Pass Word is- vzw |

Go to the PHONE application 2. ##3328873 3. enter code 000000 4. Select BT DUN 5. Click Edit 6. Choose enable 7. Push Save / OK 8. Push Ok 9. follow the prompt to restart your device restart, discover services, and voila! you've got bluetooth DUN available. (you'll see the WModem option as well... this is another thread topic but enabling this will ease the use of WModem.exe in a way I'll describe soon) Later I'll post/repost some other things i've figured out on this phone as follows. 1. A reliable way to get wmodem working for USB (and a better shortcut file) 2. The fix to get wifi and the phone working at the same time 3. a better way to get the clock working I plan on putting together these updates as cab files for easy installation. Finally, a request: I'm looking for a way to setup my phone to not take voice calls when in a data call initiated via either usb or bluetoth. or, a way to set up this preference in general. Any advice? Good Luck and thanks to all the regulars for the valuable advice, Zam |
you can get the CDMA modem drivers from many places.......just search for 6600 wmodem on google and I think that will do the trick.....thats what I've done and I've used the phone of USB plenty of times already.

It calls Verizon, and says welcome to verizon wireless, and then another recording says you've reached a number that isn't correct? No pop up windows or anything like that? I just want to get the DUN working, ideally over bluetooth, but could live with usb... Any suggestions, or help, I would greatly appreciate it. Love the phone other than these 2 issues. Jason |

This is the same port that the WModem tries to use for the USB Modem connection, d'oh! So I unpaired the GPS, re-paired it, and assigned it to a different com port (com port 4) and everything is working fine. I can use DUN via USB and I can connect to my GPS. Windows Mobile does not have a good way to see what com ports are assigned to what devices, so as far as I could tell, there is no good way to figure this out. Jamie Jamie |

Could anyone let me know a part number or name, or, link, anything on where I could get more info on these things? Also, I've seen a few people ask about tethernet package charges while online with the laptop, but haven't seen any answers. How has this been working? If you just have the data package this is all possible? |

if I missed anything, or anything is unclear, pm me. 1. Wmodem This is a program on Windows Mobile 5.0 that will allow you to use the 6700 as a modem. You can connect via USB, Bluetooth or Infrared, of course speeds will be greatly affected by the last two options. To find on Pocket PC, Start-->Programs-->File Explorer-->Windows At the bottom right of screen there is the Menu tab, click and select "Show All Files" The bottom of the page will be the link for the wmodem program. I copied and pasted it to my Programs folder on pocket PC for easy access. 2. You will need a driver so that Windows will recognize your device as a modem. This driver is cdma1x_usbmdm.inf The corresponding program is CDMA_USBmodem_dialer. This program is what you will launch at the same time you run Wmodem on the Pocket PC. They work together to dial out. I was able to find this software at http://www.intrasection.com/pjmorr/2005/02/page/2/ The driver and program link are at the bottom of the page. Install the driver and the program to your Program Folder on your laptop/pc. I didn't use the Windows Network Wizard to set up the connections, as the CDMA Dialer program seemed to set it up on it's own. 3. It is important to start the Wmodem program on the 6700 before connecting it to the laptop with the USB. When you do plug it in, Windows will ask for a driver. I entered in the folder the driver was in so the laptop recognized the device; and run the CDMA_USBmodem_dialer program. 4. Your user name is yourwirelessnumber@vzw3g.com. Your password is vzw. Your dial out number is #777. There are many bits and pieces to this formula out on the net, some user's threads on Howardforums got me started in the right direction. |

I live in the SF Bay area and have never gotten better than 222 down 78 up I already have a broadband connection at home and occasionally may want to browse the web while I am on the road. My laptop has wifi and I am rarely out of range of a hotspot. I am wondering if paying the extra $15 removes a cap that limits the connection to 200Kbps I am still in the 15 day grace period for this device and I just cannot justify the extra expense of $44/month without having laptop tethering included at a usable speed. I may re-consider a similar device in the future when pricing is more reasonable with VZW. ps: Doing a hard-reset last week enabled BT and un-hid the WModem Application |

After installing the new firmware, I tried to enable DUN by dialing ##3328873. Now when I dial that and hit send, it dials the phone number, and does not let me get into the "enable DUN screen". After scratching my head for a bit, I decieded to try to just launch wmodem and connect like I did before. It worked. It seems, for me anyway, that after you install the new firmware, DUN is enabled by default. I know drrjv, Half Decaf, and narzy ran into this problem, so I figured I would post my experience. |

So, to clarify, it's not true that "DUN is enabled by default" as you have said. It's simply still enabled for you. |

I hear that these feature codes don't exist if you abort Verizon's provisioning of their custom software. If that's the case, backup your device (I use Sunnysoft Backup Manager), hard-reset and enable DUN, then hard-reset and abort vzw provisoning before a full restore. I hard-reset and restore my device every few weeks without any problems. It only takes 15 minutes, and it always runs better afterwards. |
