Roaming on my V3i

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I took the cingular chip out of my crappy 551 and put it in my nice new razr v3i unlocked ( I live in Southern California) When it registers it shows that its on the cingular network and when I dial 611 cingular answers. I plan is no roaming and no long distance so in reality its not big deal. However I would prefer that it was not there. When I search for networks it finds two, both cingular, one that I believe shares a tower with t-mobile and another. I have tried to register them both and I get the roaming light. I let the phone search on it own setting it to auto and I still get the roaming light. I called cingular and they said they had no idea. So I come to you good people, does anybody have any idea why this is happening?

thanks

My V3i is doing the same thing. My old V3 did the same until I used a Cingular flex. From what I understand, the Cingular flex (with CIN in the name, E.G. GSMV3MX CIN 01NA0F5) uses a special software that allows you to use Cingular and AT&T towers seamlessly. My new V3i has a standard issue flex (SE7721AXXF1055) and the roaming triangle is almost consantly illuminated. When the Cingular flex is available, I bet it will be gone...

I noticed on my V3i that the roming triangle appears almost constantly when I'm at work, which is a place that only gets an AT&T signal, according to my old V551. Before the merger, my phone just said, "no signal" at work. Odds are it's the same with you.

And by the way, welcome to HoFo.

what is the "network code" of the network your using, the name is not reallyimportant, its the network code that matters, ie: 302-41 etc.. if ur getting cingular alpha tag but roaming icon u normally dont, it means ur tower is sharing/agreements w/ cing, but the id being broadcast belong to another carrier

I am getting two codes one is 310-380
and the other is 310-170.

I have tried them both and let the phone pick in auto mode. They both say cingular. I will say that I do get a stronger signal with 310-180. But either way the roaming light is on.

thanks

All you have to do is edit the seem table to turn off the Display Roaming Icon feature.....this is common with unbranded moto phones.....
Do some searching on seem editing..... and the roaming triangle....

ahh i c,. your home network is probaly 310-41, which is "Cingular Wireless, LLP" and your connected to a 310-38 which is a former AT&T Tower, but re-badged to show up as a Cing tower, so since its still a cingular owned tower, but the towers hasnt been integrated where u are yet, theyre still using 2 seperate network broadcasts, same with us here in canada, our fido uses show up as Fido but have a roaming icon cus our home network on the sim card is 302-37 but the tower is 302-72. if both numbers match, the roaming icon goes away.

your home network on the SIM ie: 310-41 and the tower's network ID being broadcast (310-38) have to match for the roaming icon to turn off. so they both have to be 310-41, which is the whole point of why cingular is slowly integrating both networks into one.

My Top 5 Networks are (drum roll...):
5. 310-910 USAFC
4. 310-150 Cingular
3. 310-170 Cingular

First runner-up, should the winner not be able to fulfill its duties is:
2. 310-380 Cingular

And the winner is:
1. 310-410 Cingular!

I don't really know if this is the best network order for SoCal or not. I had LOTS of problems with my V551 dropping calls, even though now my V3i, with the same settings, seems much more reliable.

Like I said I only get two different choices and the only one similar to you is teh 310-380 which seems to work better. My issue either way is the roaming light is on no matter what network I choose.

Correct. And until Cingular gets all its towers merged or until you flex with a Cingular flex, the roaming triangle will continue to appear.

AFK, it has NOTHING to do with what ever networks are on your sim card's network priority list.. you can wipe them out and it still woudlnt make a difference.

Do the SEEM EDIT and it will be GONE
