after doing a few days of research...i finally found this board...
i need some help in understanding something...and only people tha work at cingular might be able to help me out with this inquiry...
how come cingular (not sure about other providers, so at this point i am only assuming cingular) doesn't help individuals to unlock their phones that they have purchased from an existing cingular or previus customer? what is the big deal?
i mean...if the phone is not blacklisted...if there is nothing wrong at all with the phone...why not? people should be able to sell the phones that they don't use anymore or they don't want to others...and they should be able to get the phone unlocked by calling the provider that the phone was locked to...
can employees from cingular explain this to me? because i called cingular and talked to a rep that almost made me cry...he was soooooo rude...i could write how the call went here but it was really long...so i will put it aside for now...
please any input on this subject is very much appreciated...

You can get the phone unlocked by:
1) If they find the IMEI in the billing system on another persons acct for at least 90 days and the phone was not reported lost or stolen
2) You show full purchase price receipts
Keep in mind for a former ATTWS handset it will not be offered an unlock code. Hope this clears up any question you have, that is the policy for the situation you are in.

This thread is about to be closed:
The subforum says this:
Agents and employees
Discuss your experiences about working for Cingular here
It does not however say
Customers who dont want to search and read the 100 other threads about unlocking can come and ask agents and employees here
Now as to answer your question, it does NOT benefit cingular in anyway to let you use a phone that you purchased from them on another carrier. Their unlocking services are a priveledge not a right.
