Rumor Mill Strikes Again!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I know you are not suppose to spread rumors and I dont wanna get flamed for this but....

I heard a rumor in my Call Center here in Lubbock that in a few months our baseline per hour rates are going to go up to 15/Hr to match what ATT (or SBC) was paying their reps.

Does anyone know if this is true or not and if they have heard the same thing in their Centers...or am I just repeating something that has been talked about for months?

I am not Trolling either...just wanna know if this is a local rumor or does it stretch across the nation...like our All Cingular Digi.......Whoa....gotta take more time off the phones....

/me snorts

People started off at $11 at my call center and we're former blue. I know that a lot of people who started way before me started off that high, but it dropped. The rumor around our call center is that the new hires are being hired on to match what Cingular hires on at, like $8.50...but I havent heard of any evidence to back that claim up.

in Lafayette, base pay is $9.19 - $12.79, they advertise it on the radio. but my town is a "economically depressed" town so those pay rates are considered very good.

I know Verizon starts their call center off at 8.50 here where I live as well, maybe thats where it came from. But Alfred, youre in Sales. Honestly, when I worked in sales, I got a **** hourly and then commission, they expect you to make $15 an hour in sales, and some people do. We dont get commission in CS, just lousy rewards points. I dont even get that! CWA has stepped in where I live, so I dont think the pay will go down that far anytime soon. But, then again...who knows...

cwa is almost in my area. i really dont want to pay them any dues.

I don't know if that would happen. cingular pays new highers at a higher rate than what AT&t did and there are new employees in my store that got hired on this past october that makes about 50 cents less than me and i have been with the company four years come this june. our manager says that cingular will not bump up blue emplyees pay to match orange pay so I would think that it would be the same way for the opposite.

Cingular has few or no call centers in any area that has high levels of incomes . Our pay scale tops at 13.40 and that is above average in Eastern KY. The contract is up in March so i guess we'll see what good the cwa can do. Not really holding my breath just hope the local yahoos don't decide to strike for something stupid.

From what I have seen they look at the two and then pay the lesser of the two. I have yet to see a case where anyone has been bumped up. But hope does spring eternal!

I started at through a temp agency for 10.50 an hour. I went up to 11.00 once I was perm, and yes, I herd the same thing about new hires making 8.50 an hour. I eally doubt that they would jump the pay to 15.00 an hour. If they did, I would start to look for another job fast. I made that at my last job brfore it was outsourced to the Great White.

From what I was told by a manager, that there will be caps on what one earns. So, if you have hit the cap for your years of service, it maybe a year before you could receive a raise according to the cwa contract. I really need to find my union contract and read it, or get another copy and then read it.

Depending in what state you live, state of confusion or the likes don't count , You may not have to pay dues. I know that I don't have to pay them in order to be covered by the cwa contract or to have a union rep at hand when I need one. Of course, I live in a right to work state.

I started off the same way. At first, we were told that people who came in after us were making way more than us, then it was way less. No one can get their **** straight. I dont think theyd bump pay up that much at all. With CWA, you get capped at a certain level and cant go any higher once you hit it.

How did you get out of paying dues? I have to pay them, but luckily theyre tax deductible.

Boy, I'm glad i left the store when I did. I left the store to do data support in a call center. Just the opposite of what most people do. I kind of see it as a good thing though. Cause in order for me to accept the position of where I'm at, they had to compensate what I was making at the stores with my commission. I'm making 15.06/hr sitting there telling people how to create a webclient account for their blackberries....I found out that i'm making as much, in some cases more, than people who've been at my call center for 6+ years (i've only been with cingular for 2yrs). I wonder if they consider me capped out? For you store reps out there, you might want to consider just transfering to a call center. With what they compensate you with, it's a more stable check every two weeks. Not to mention, if i were in the stores right now i would probably be making less, due to the insanely slow traffic i hear you guys have right now.

I live in TX, and you don't have to be part of the union even if you work in a union enviroment. As I said, we are a right to work state, so that means no dues, but the union will still cover me if I need them to step in. If you are in TX and they tell you that you have to pay dues, then the reps are lying to you. the only thing that paying dues for me is, that I would get what ever discounts that cwa gets from other companies for service. Also, I could get the CWA credit card, and discounts at dell, up to 12% and avis. oooooooohhh
