Winamp Mobile (LightPlayer) for Motorola SLVR L7

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: j0nb

Hey guys, thats right i found a way to finally get light player working for the motorola L7, infact this should work on most motorola phones with tflash but it has only been tested on the motorola SLVR L7. After finally finding a way to get Light Player to work on SLVR L7, i decided to build a winamp mobile skin for the Lightplayer. The good thing about this is that i built the skin right into the jar, so if you install this you will automatically be using the winamp mobile skin.

To Install:
- first download Winamp Mobile 1.0 (LightPlayer) and Moto MIDlets Manager v0.22
- unzip motomidman, and open MotoMidMan.exe
- unzip Winamp Mobile 1.0.zip into a temp dir (Ex. C:\Temp\)
- plug in your SLVR L7, and you should see bottom left "Connected"
- if motomidman is showing in russian language, click on the 4th tab, and change the top drop down menu to "English"
- after you have connected your phone to motomidman, click on "Phone memory" tab
- click on "Install" -> "JAR File..." and select the unzipped "Winamp Mobile.jar"
- after it has finished installing, Winamp Mobile should be on the list, right click on Winamp Mobile, select "Access" -> "Enable" Note: this gives winamp mobile access to the tflash and internal memory.
- now click on Restart, and you should see Winamp Mobile installed.

Any problems let me know, will be releasing another LightPlayer skin soon, working on a Itunes theme.

heres a screenshot:

Cooooooooooooool.... Cant wait to see the iTunes theme.

iTunes Mobile 1.2 is now ready for download

screenshot:

download iTunes Mobile v1.2 (LightPlayer)

if you want, you can run both winamp/itunes on your phone at same time, it will not conflict each other.

you rock

Posted by: Pyr0tek

Nice one. I still find myself using the moto-os player since it can throw the control icons onto the homescreen for music. Is there a benefit to using a java app to play mp3's?

Posted by: j0nb

just visual advantages. and lightplayer also plays itune files

Posted by: j0nb

just got a pm saying this does not work on the v635, i am working on a v635 version and need some testers, please pm me if you have a v635

Posted by: j0nb

k guys, people with v635, tell me if this one works on your phone

i didn't edit the 128 resolution pics, so if it might work but might show a different default skin, let me know if it work but doesn't show the winamp skin.

Also this may be in russian language, let me know if it is.

Winamp Mobile v1.0 v635

Posted by: mattmanslim

nope still doesn't work. Just comes up with application error. keep on trying though, i'm sure you or someone will eventually get it.

Posted by: j0nb

ok try this, using motomidman, install the v635 jar, but dont do the enable security thing and see if atleast you can get the jar opened. I'm thinking it has to do with the language, i can't test this version on mine since i dont have a v635 and i get the same error, but i know this error happened to me when i had a russian version of the lightplayer and it failed on mine too, but the english version worked. i'm gonna check out the code and see where it could fail, mind you i'm not the best with java.. heh..

Posted by: mattmanslim

no still says application error with or without the security thing. keep trying though. good luck

Posted by: j0nb

iTunes Mobile v1.3
- changed to original motorola/itunes fonts
- bigger time font
- border line under playlist title

i think this is the closest i can get to look like itunes, tell me what you guys think
iTunes Mobile 1.3

Posted by: j0nb

wait for my next mod, working on the built in motorola digital audio player, changing the whole interface to look like winamp & ipod. This is gonna be a huge release.

Posted by: j0nb

mattmanslim, sorry i tried to get it working for the v635, but without a v635 i wont be able to get it working, maybe someone with knowledge of jar's and with a v635 can get it working.

Posted by: mattmanslim

hopefully they can but it won't be me as i have absoloutly no knowledge of programming at all lol. oh well thanks for trying.

Posted by: maciej123

what folder on my phone would i put the songs into, because it isnt reading the ones i have in audio, i am using a rokr and i didnt download that motomidi program.

Posted by: j0nb

you need the motomidman, this program will give lightplayer access to your tflash card.

Posted by: maciej123

damn, motomidiman doesnt seem to read my moto rokr e1.

Posted by: j0nb

it should read you rokr no problem, im sure this motomidman was actually meant for thr rokr. make sure you are not in any other p2k app before opening motomidman, and make sure your usb settings default connection is set to data/fax connection instead of Memory card.

Posted by: FELT216

hey got the midi man to see my phone but it cant access it or any thing it just there i cant get in to my phone

v360 !!!

Posted by: maciej123

no still doesnt seem to work

Posted by: bgooman

Would your players work on a E398? probly right (if rokr works)

Also - does your player play VBR files? Cause I know motorola's DAP has a problem with that.

Posted by: LindaB

works like a charm on my l7 good work m8

Posted by: sblantipodi

is there someone who know some program like motomidman for V3X?

Posted by: dangdang142

i have the same problem motomidman shows that the phone is disconnected when my phone is charging as well as i was just in MPT

Posted by: golfman44

can't seem to get my L7 to display as connected...its alwyas "disconcted" in moto midlets manager 0.22 - help please?

Posted by: tlausl

Posted by: 9.27

any1 wanna post a screenshot of their L7 using this program? thanks

Posted by: FELT216

Hey update:

got both itunes lite and the winamps working perfectly on the moto v360 thanks for this kick a-- program.

Posted by: kms-lai

be careful when using this program with the E1 rokr, I deleted itunes by mistake, luckly i had motorola hk to flash my whole phone.

Posted by: j0nb

i'll post some screenshots, trying to find a digital camera at work, if i find one i'll take some pics, else i'll post some when i get home

Posted by: dangdang142

what a nice program thanks man

Posted by: j0nb

nice, i dont need to take screenshots anymore.. heh. Guys i'm still working on a new skin for Motorola Digital Audio player. Will post real soon. I know people like the nice clean itunes interface so thats what the new DAP skin would look like, remember this new skin will replace your current DAP. Dont worry though, i'll post the how tos when its done.

Posted by: laffingbilly

do you have a desktop interface program so you can do the playlists etc on the desktop rather than through the handset? thx

Posted by: dhmachine86

Should this work with an e815? The motomidman says it connects but that its an "imcompatible platform" or something to that effect...What did I forget?

Posted by: bowlofrice

anybody else besides the original poster been able to get their l7 to be recognized by motomidman?

Posted by: dangdang142

I got MPT to work a few times, but whenever i would disconnect the phone and plug it back in the XP Install pop ups would come up looking for drivers for the SLVR and RAZR. Keep in mind this was happening with the install cd i got for the phone. I ended up using the p2k.sys drivers and this worked, i dunno why the cd and the update to 4.04 didn't include the drivers.

It was such a pain to get this working, it worked from the start when i was at home using my desktop, but on my laptop it was a different story.

Posted by: laffingbilly

try motomidman v0.22

Posted by: j0nb

hold down 7 and it will give u a pop up window that will show you all the controls in lightplayer.

Posted by: ayoinmynasal

hi jonB. I conencted my phone to my computer via usb cable but for some reason the program doesn't detect my phone. any solutions?

Posted by: digitalic

hey guys, will this winamp work on a razr v3i? would like to use it instead of DAP...

Posted by: golfman44

FINALLY got it working. Great work, <3 this.

Posted by: kdm212

just out of curiosity but this wont work on any se phones will it?

Posted by: bowlofrice

golfman: what did you do to make it work?

Posted by: golfman44

pointed it to the motorola shared drivers

ALSO: How do I get lightplayer to play my iTunes files. I put my L7 on USB memory card connectivity, and then transfered the songs i wanted (mpeg-4 format) into the mobile/audio folder. However, lightplayer does not read these files. In lightplayer, the folder b/mobile/audio is there so I know its reading the folder but its not playing anything but .mp3 files. help plz?

Posted by: clewis4u91

What is motomidman and how do I get it? lol

I have the same problem. I have MPT 4.0 installed and that works.

Posted by: j0nb

you gotta add the itunes format to play in the options in light player.

Posted by: Above&Beyond

sorry to ask this again, but motomidman says "unsupported platform. cant continue" and it says that status is connected and i have tried different usb ports and i have motomidlets manager 0.22. that winamp skin looks amazing! anybody have any ideas?

Posted by: trancetripper

JONB YOU ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!

( meant to be in caps)

Posted by: Bloom

Do these programs work with Mac, or are the PC native only? Also, with the iTunes version, it looks like it doesn't display album art, is that correct?

As silly as this sounds, (bear with me here...), what is the advantage of this program vs. the stock iTunes that comes loaded on the SLVR?

Posted by: digitalic

jonb can you fix this program so that it will work on a v3i please, it installs and runs but it wont access my tf card at all...

Posted by: golfman44

Quote:

you gotta set the folder of it (i.e. b\mobile\audio - and you have to have your songs in that folder)

Posted by: JBoogie

For those of u that are able to get this to work. Under the phone status, other information screen. What does your phone say for MP3 ready. The V635 says "no". Will this make a diff as to if this will work or not on the V635??

Thanks.

J.

Posted by: player911

Well that is a simple seem edit. And it hasn't meant anything before.

unfortunately i confirm this generates an "appication error" on the v635 - darn it!

Posted by: Genzo W.

It works on Nokia 8800 too and i think other Nokia too, maybe with expansion slot... The only problem is to know the dir where the files are and obviously it runs only at half screen, because the 8800 has a 208x208 screen.

Posted by: originalgoast

Im ahveing a prob. I cant seem to get the music to be noticed on the tf card. it is in the folder i directed it to. Now the only thing is that is the program is on the tf card and not on the phone memory will that cause a conflict? The error I keep getting is folder Empty.

Posted by: k2krazy4u

Hey,
I'm a newie .... so please bear with me.
What the closest looking to iTunes player ? The iTunes Mobile v1.3 ?
Can anyone post more pics of this player. There is one pic in this thread ... but would appreciate more pics .... esp of the menu etc.

Thanks

Posted by: unknown00

i have a v635 and ive done a lot of testing with this and here's what i found out...

under the phone status, other information screen, mp3 ready it says No but its actually on. how do i know? i seemed edit and it was already on. after u turn seem off and then go under the phone status, other information screen, mp3 ready disappears. so when it actually says No, it actually is "on"
i dont know how to make it say Yes but im still working on that, and i get an Application Error too

Posted by: sxw88

I installed by uploading jar into the kjava folder. installed ok. I copied the songs into the /audio folder. I can't have mobilewinamp read the songs. any ideas?

Help, anyone... ????
Appreciate it.

Posted by: Kinjutsu11

this works beatifully on the v360, however, i did have to make the app flip insensitive so i could close the flip, but its nice, well done JonB

Posted by: ooo00oo00ooo

So will this effectively allow you to have more than 100 songs on the cingular branded L7?

Posted by: dhmachine86

anybody get this to work successfully on and e815?

Posted by: stevemahon

I have L7 unlocked, non-iTunes and replaced DAP with mTunes. I've copied music using the SD-Trans adapter and with MPT. Either way, non of the album, artist, or genre info shows up. All songs are listed under songs. All files are CBR MP3 128kb, most of which were ripped or converted by iTunes.
Thanks, Steve

Posted by: dangdang142

You probably have to retag the songs

Just what I was trying to figure out how to do...care to spill the beans so I can close my V360 and not have it stop playing?

Oh yeah, great job on the software too JonB!

EDIT: Nevermind...found it. For those that are wondering, right click on the app in moto midlets and select atributes....

Posted by: ooo00oo00ooo

Does this app have the ability to play in the background like itunes?

Posted by: omerk666

i have an earlier version of lightplayer on my pinter mp e398/e1 and it works like a charm. but the new versions won't be able to list the files in the tf, neither in the phone memory.. both of the new apps say "folder empty". i tried /b/mobile/audio , b/mobile/audio , /mobile/audio etc. or mp3 and .mp3 in types. i think it has to do something with the app itself. bcoz the older version of the app works but the newer and "cooler" versions wont seem to work and i hate it bcoz i care about visual appearence. is there a way to make these apps work? i copied the jar files to the tf and in the phone i install the apps on the tf to phone memory. and one app is on the tf, just to try.

thx

Posted by: urfage

The links to download the players seem to be broken? Could anyone put these up?

-Bryce

Posted by: j0nb

omerk666, u need to use motomidman to enable permissions to the app. Can be downloaded from my site. But my server is currently down and will be back up in couple hours. thanx

Posted by: omerk666

if u're not busy, can u upload it to rapidshare or somewhere else? does it work without pst installed on the pc? bcoz my computer is dead and i'm using another one at the moment and i dont have the appz like pst flash/flex etc. and one more thing, how am i supposed to enable the permissions bla bla..?

thanx

Posted by: hebe

you can just BT the java app to the phone and it still works.

I just did it here with a V360

Posted by: Stlthaccord

Just wondering if this program "lightplayer" can stream from a GPRS connection? The DL link is down so I can't try it out.

Posted by: jagogo

i managed to install on my v3i using midman 0.333 and enable the access but when i go to options the folder it has is /c/mobile/audio/ and it does not see the music on my transflash card. it installs and runs but does not find my mp3's. i really want this because my v3i ins't the itunes one. can some one help out?

Posted by: e-powersellers

Seems no one has answered several of the prior posts regarding the L7 not showing connected to MotoMidMan, mine is the same, it shows disconnected 100% of the time.

I moved the file over using regular file transfer to the transcard. I was able to install it from the apps directory and it installs fine.

The issue I have is that it does not see any music at all, not sure why? I show three folders with paths that make no sense. How do i get it to read the files on the card?

Posted by: hemanjoyman

Those of you who got the winamp player working, how did u do it? I can't seem to get it. I've installed it fine, but how do u actually run the winamp player? Where do you go to run it? And where do you put the songs at for winamp player to play them. Can you be specific please.

I have the Rokr E1 by the way.

Thanks

I'm in the same boat and I'm usually pretty good at hacking phones.

I just can not get MotoMidMan to stay connected to my SLVR and I've tried eeeeveeeerything! It's the same prob I've seen some other peeps post about: MotoMidMan initially sees my SLVR when I start it, but then it pops up a box that states "Unsupported platform" and all the action buttons at the bottom of the app get greyed out, so I can't click on any of them.

It does seem to stay connected to some degree because even after the above happens, MotoMidMan still shows my SVLR's IMEI number in the bottom right corner of the window and I can use the "Restart" button to succesfully restart my phone.

I'm wondering if it has something to do with my SLVR being a Cingular branded one. Maybe there's something diff about it that confuses MotoMidMan?

Has anyone here that's successfully used MotoMidMan done so with a Cingular branded SLVR with iTunes or have all the previous success stories been with unlocked/unbranded SLVRs?

Thanks!

which version of MMM do you guys have? the latest is 0.33

Posted by: e-powersellers

V0.22 not .33, l downloaded the one off the 1st page, I guess it is already outdated.

I don't get the unsupported error, it just never sees the phone, could of course be the version, I will download the new one.

Also I moved the JAR file over and installed it by hand and it installed and the application starts, but I get "Folder is empty" regardless of where installed or where I put the MP3 files.

I think you might be missing RSD Lite

Posted by: e-powersellers

1) The OP never mentioned RSD Lite for installing the software
2) I searched Google for 20-min and could not find a place to download RSD Lite without being a support tech at PTC.
3) Becoming more of a hassle than a value.

There are 4 drivers that needs to be install for your L7 to be recognized
1) Accessories Device Interface
2) Test Command Interface
3) Data Logging MCU Interface
4) USB Composite Device
and
Motorola USB Device
#1-3 should show up under Modem Properties in Device Manager
#4 should show up under USB Device Properties

That is if all drivers are installed with phone connected to pc

Here is the link showing you DO need RSD before your phone is regonized

Cool, and one day I may know what that means regarding what to install and where to get the drivers to install.

1. Google for RSD 2.5
2. Install RSD and run it.
3. Plug in your phone and it'll ask for drivers. All of these drivers will be in "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Motorola Shared\MotPCSDrivers" so point the Add Hardware Wizard to that folder every time.
3. After you've installed all the drivers, RSD will show your device in the listbox.
4. Then run MMM and it should find your phone.

Thanks to those who sent a PM with links to the SF, as I could not find it anywhere!

Appreciate the fact people are willing to be helpful!

Posted by: osokrayzay

I didnt need rsd to recongnize my phone. I ran motomidman and then plugged in the phone and it connected. Sometimes when its connected under phone memory none of the applications are shown so i unconnect and reconnect. Make sure you connectivity is set to Data/Fax connection. i wish it was like dap were it splits into artist albums

Posted by: e-powersellers

I've noticed about six others asked the same question, but no one currently has the answer.

Does anyone know what path needs to be added in order for winamp to see the MP3s on the Transflash.

Thanks

Posted by: urfage

I have a Cingular L7 and would like to put lightplayer on it. Motomidman does not work for me. I can use P2KTools fine with RSD Lite in the background. When I launch Motomidman it gives me the following error: "Unsupported platform. Can't Continue."

The log reads as follows:
Code:
Model: L7 Processing J2MEST... Unsupported platform. Can't continue. p2kapi.GetVolInfo: 0x0315D160 p2kapi.GetVolInfo: 1339937, /a /c /b, ok p2kapi.GetVolFreeSpace: /a/ p2kapi.GetVolFreeSpace: 1339937, ok Disk /a/, 1339937 bytes free p2kapi.GetVolFreeSpace: /c/ p2kapi.GetVolFreeSpace: 4770075, ok Disk /c/, 4770075 bytes free p2kapi.GetVolFreeSpace: /b/ p2kapi.GetVolFreeSpace: 357089280, ok Disk /b/, 357089280 bytes free Ready

I can upload the jar file to the phone and install it that way, but I can't give it access to the TransFlash, is there anyway I can do this manually through P2KTools or another program?

Thanks in advanced,
Bryce

Edit, I have tried the .22 and .33 version and both give the same error.

Posted by: osokrayzay

im guessing its /b/mobile/audio. If the player shows emtpy folder you have to give it access in motomidman. On mine it didnt work at first i gave it access and nothing so i reconnected and restarted it and gave it access like 4 times in a row heh and then restarted and it worked...

this thing rox I had a malfunctioned DAP and installing a new DAP wouldnot work .neither did mtunes or mp3 player....but winamp works like a charm and i love it more than DAP (since I dont have it )

follow the exact procedure and it reads all (TF + internal) I guess people who cant get their TF read did 'enable' by right clicking winamp in motomidman and didnot 'enable all'

Posted by: e-powersellers

But with the TransFlash (MiniSD) there is no folder called Music/Audio (unless created) so would the path not be just /b or /b/ ?

Hell!

The Lighplayer and DAP is displaying "Application Error"!
My software version in Motorola V360v is Vodafone (R4513_G_08.B7.56R_A).
Conceivable the locked function in Voda soft? Any solution without flasing in motorola soft (eg. seem edit)?

Ps.: Sorry for bad English!

Thanks!

hey, e-powersellers

I had all my songs in the itunes folder, so what i did, was erased them all using the itunes software, and had my TF card memory free.

When you go into the TF card menu, you see two folders, the "itunes" folder, and one folder called "mobile." I went into the "mobile" folder and then into it's subdirectiory folder called "audio." I just copied and pasted all my songs into the "audio" folder, and winamp player saw all the songs and played them just fine.

Posted by: dadik

hey guys, will this winamp work on a razr v3i? would like to use it instead of DAP...

Posted by: e-powersellers

Apples / Oranges

Seems you are using a Cingular L7 with iTunes, this is an aftermarket WinAmp install / Java.

It installs fine through MMM and RSD Lite, however it won't see the Transflash card.

When installed and enabled things are fine... the OP said the next step is to reset / restart the device.

When it restarts the phone always locks up & RSD dies with the following error

AppName: sdl.exe AppVer: 2006.4.0.3 ModName: pst.dll
ModVer: 2006.3.1.0 Offset: 0004f6e5

100% of the time.

Can anyone give me a working link for the iTunes Mobile one as the links on the first page are all down!

Urfage - I'm in the exact same boat and have a Cingular branded L7.

I'm thinking this application (or the method of installing it) just doesn't work for a Cingular branded L7 but don't know for sure.

If anyone has managed to successfully install this app on a Cingular branded L7 would you please post to this thread and let us know? I would really appreciate it.

The log reads as follows:
Code:

I can upload the jar file to the phone and install it that way, but I can't give it access to the TransFlash, is there anyway I can do this manually through P2KTools or another program?

Thanks in advanced,
Bryce

Edit, I have tried the .22 and .33 version and both give the same error.

R4517_G_08.C4.1ER

I have a Retail Cingular (Locked) with iTunes, I would like to use LightPlayer as well.

And mine's the same as Urfage's. (I also have a Cingular L7 w/iTunes).

I don't think there's been any other firmware released with the Cingular branded L7 yet.

If running MMM, close it.
Open MotoMidMan.ini
find Mode2 and add in end of line "R4517"
example: Mode2 = R4513 R3511 R479 R47A R4517
after save MotoMidMan.ini and run program...
Enjoy!

Holy cr@p! That did it! MMM now maintains a connection to my Cingular L7!!

dwALX, you rock! Thanks for posting that!!

Now to see if I can upload Lightplayer to my phone... Woot!

Thanks again for sharing that info, dwALX! It is really appreciated!

It should connection when u first plugged in your L7
and a Green Light is showing at the bottom left corner...you are fine. No need to restart device.
when u start MMM is should load your java programs on your phone and tflash
when it's done loading it will display all app installed on your phone
default unbranded, unlock phone usually have
Under Phone: AsphltUrbanGT, DAP, Football, Golf, or Safe
Tflash: empty (unless you already installed a Java App somehow)

Posted by: e-powersellers

The Tflash has 40 MP3s I moved over. They will play with DAP if I click on them, however I can't get winamp to see them. Winamp only sees what is in memory / audio.

The iTunes when installed 100% says Folder Empty. That is it, sees nothing no matter where.

E-Powersellers - Forgive the obvious question but did you do this step after installing the Liteplayer app:

- after it has finished installing, Winamp Mobile should be on the list, right click on Winamp Mobile, select "Access" -> "Enable" Note: this gives winamp mobile access to the tflash and internal memory.

I just got done installing Liteplayer on my phone (after the great help from dwALX ) and it's working and sees the songs that are on my memory card.

Hmm...Why are you still running RSD at that point? The only app you should need to have running to install Lightplayer is MMM and when you hit the "restart" button on MMM (after installing Lightplayer) you can go ahead and disconnect your phone from the USB cable when you see the status change to "disconnected" in the bottom corner of MMM.

(Sorry if I'm making things confusing. There's a lot of info in this thread that I've gone over multiple times, so it's easy to get things mixed up/forget things).

Have you tried running MMM *without* RSD? It isn't necessary for RSD to be open for MMM to see your phone.

I just start MMM (with no other phone apps running in the background) and then plug the USB cable into my SLVR and MMM detects my phone, I do what I want to do in MMM and then hit the "Restart" button in MMM when done and disconnect my phone from the USB cable when I see MMM say "disconnected".

Same prob here... only i couldnt even give the app access to any of my files... none of my programs will allow me to edit javas bc of the v3i

MMM will not recognize my phone unless RSD 2.5 Lite is running.

How can I get the program to see my files on the tflash card?

Posted by: SprintNewbie

Dang, that is sweet. I love winamp. Do you know if it would work with a samsung?? I have the a900 and would love to have that app.

Posted by: ritz@98925

I had to start RSD and then only MMM would show the connection.
when i pressed restart RSD froze, MMM froze and so did my L7. All i got was a blue frozen screen on my L7. I had to remove the battery to restart. But my installed winamp read all from TF card.
I dont know if this makes any sense, but those having problems , have you changed your USB setting to data/Fax from Memory .
Try doing one more thing. before pressing the restart tab on MMM, try to close RSD, then press restart immediately.

Just follow the procedure from the originator's post. The key thing is the last step before restart.

e-powersellers, you have incorrect installed drivers. I have some error on several computers but and other p2k software (exclude RSD and PST) can't connect. Try use another USB port and install drivers again.

I tried that the first time, and the program wouldn't open. Then I did Enable for all and the program worked, but no tflash card.

Posted by: e-powersellers

Your post makes no sense, the last thing before restart is to enable winamp so it recognizes the flash card.

Everyone here is doing that and has done that (if you read the posts) and the system still locks up. We can follow instructions, and most of us can read, however there seems to be other issues that are happening to select phones and we don't know the common issue yet, the computer, the O/S the revision the phone itself, the version number etc...

Posted by: e-powersellers

Just an FYI that I quit.. I give up.. the L7 won and I lost. I cannot get WinAmp or iTunes to see anything on the card, it will only see items on the phone / audio. I can drag / drop songs to Mobile/Audio and they play fine on both applications.

No matter what I do, it fails for the card.

Tried different USB ports and re-added the drivers, enabled the software and restarted, still can’t see the card.

I have installed iTunes to both the phone and to the Memory card and it won’t see the Transflash either.

I have read and tried 100% of everything listed with versions, ports, tips, tricks, memory and more and still fails.

I quit.

Posted by: fastwheels

never quit

Posted by: e-powersellers

Have to quit, tired of having to remove the battery every other time to reset the phone due to it locking up.

Plus already did everything everyone posted and it still won't work. If certain processes failed like it would not reboot or unable to access I would agree, but how many times do we have to do the process and have nothing change before we say enough is enough.

e-powersellers, what COM port uses your phone? Above COM9?
P2KAPI (MMM uses it) sometimes can't switch phone to P2K mode if COM port above 9 (COM9). In next version i'll try fix this.
Please download a beta version of p2kapi2.dll, replace p2kapi2.dll in MMM's folder with file from downloaded archive. Close RSD or PST if running, disconnect phone, connect phone again and run MMM. Also in MMM must be turned on Autodetection of COM port. Check on "Settings" page "Autodetect COM Port"
I'm wating results from you

Warning: This is a beta version of p2kapi2. It will be work only if your phone modem called "Motorola USB Modem" (not a "Motorola USB Modem#2", "...#3",...) (You can check it here: "Start"->"Settings"->"Control Panel"->"Phone and Modem options"->"Modems")

Posted by: e-powersellers

"Motorola USB Modem" Com Port = Not Present
Autodetect COM Port = Turned on, but still won't see phone w/o RSD running

I did 100% of everything you mentioned below. Once connected I stopped RSD and then enabled WinAmp, clicked restart, the phone restarts but of course does not connect again because RSD is not running.

Did the same with iTunes on the Transflash card, and same as above.

Neither see anything on the card. Works fine for items in the Audio folder on the phone itself.

If I plug the phone into the laptop w/o RSD running the PC sees it only as a storage device. If I open the device it shows the items on the Transflash card with a folder for Mobile that takes me into the phone and its folders.

e-powersellers -

You say that when you're plugging the phone in to your laptop w/out RSD running that it only sees your phone as a storage device. It sounds like you haven't set your phone's USB default connection to "data/fax connection" which is the setting it should be at when you're trying to use MMM to upload java apps to your phone.

To set your SLVR to this setting:

On your phone go into "Settings".

Select "Connection."

Select "USB Settings".

Press the soft key assigned to "Change".

Select "Data/Fax Connection".

Posted by: gbcue

Still not seeing tflash card, after re-installing it...

Posted by: e-powersellers

Reset it to data, and it did allow me to connect to MMM w/o RSD, and allow me to reboot the phone after enabling the application, however winamp or iTunes still cant see the TF card.

Looking at the log when the phone connects i am wondering if this error is an issue

p2kapi.FileGetCountEx: /b/mobile/kjava/358011002173602/*.png
p2kapi.FileGetCountEx: failed
p2kapi.FileGetList: 0x01038290, -1
p2kapi.FileGetList: failed

Note: I also removed and reinstalled and followed the instructions 100% again. Used MMM to install used MMM to enable, reboot device (phone) and still WinAmp still only sees the phone.

Dang! Closer, but still no cigar, eh?!

Hmmm...The only other things I can think of to try at the moment are:

Make sure you're running version 0.333 of MMM. I originally tried a couple earlier versions of MMM with my SLVR and they didn't work well, but version 0.333 worked just fine.

If you've never formatted your memory card, you might wanna try that. **Just realize that formatting the card will erase EVERYTHING on it, so be sure to save anything on your mem card that u wanna keep on your PC/somewhere else before you format the card.**

You can format the mem card in your phone by going into:

Settings -- Phone Status -- Storage Devices

and then highlighting your mem card and hitting the "Menu" key on your phone. You'll then see the option to "Format".

That's all I can think of at the moment.

Yes, running MMM .333

No, I have never formatted the card through the phone, it was a new card I purchased from SanDisk and added the songs via computer and not via phone. I don't care about the songs.. so I will try the format and then try to move new songs over using Motorola Phone Tools and see if that is a fix.

If that fails, maybe a hammer would work.

Follow Up ranphi found the answer for my phone transflash problem.. the transflash needs to be formatted through the phone. The standard out of the box format holds data, but the phone seems (at least my phone seems) to have issue with seeing it correctly until formatted.

Now the strange part..

winamp / itunes can see the card and all the music added to the card, however does not see the music on the phone. I don't really care, because I can play that through DAP if I need to and honestly I would not be storing music on the phone anyway.

Thanks ranphi!

Posted by: ranphi

Awright! Finally, success!

Glad it's finally working for ya, e-powersellers and that your SLVR didn't have to meet an "alternative solution" in the shape of a hammer. hehehe

Enjoy!

I successfully got Winamp installed on my V360, but it won't list the songs in the audio folder on the Transflash. That's where the app. is installed, so I thought it would default to finding the songs in the audio folder. The built-in MP3 player can see the files there.
How can I get Winamp to see them?

I assume that it's been established that it's needed for motomidiman.
Also assume that motomidman is needed for installation of winamp. I've been thorugh the thread and am still a little confused. thanks.

Ok, I did it. I had to install RSD Lite and point the driver install to the following path: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Motorola Shared\MotPCSDrivers

Only then would it see my phone, and only then would Motomidman see my phone. I then followed the instructions in the original post and the program installed. It worked perfectly for mp3's in the phone memory but would not see card. I formatted card through phone and tried again. The program still does not see the card. Do I have to install the program on the card for it to see the card?

Thanks

Posted by: ranphi

No, the program does not have to be installed to the mem card for it to see the music files on your mem card.

I am ABLE to connect to the SLVR using P2K tool V 0.7.1.9, and do seem edits, BUT when I do a refresh to view items, I ONLY see A:\ and nothing more. Don't really know where to put item on there, I am assuming this is the phone.

When I use p2kman, the program, still only seeing A:\

When I use the NEW p2k software, the software picks up A:/ and B:/ and C:/ the memory card.

I can transfer some songs to the C:/ memory card, this time LARGE mp3 files, 15 MB worth, so it MUST be the memory card, it wouldn't go anywhere else.

But, why can I only see this DRIVE, the memory card with this version of the p2k software.

Where SHOULD the mp3 files be put in order to view and USE them on the computer?

when I try the itunes software, it just doesn't see the songs I have put into C:/audio
Any thoughts?

Format your transflash card on the phone. Install according to instructions again / clean.. restart.

You will now have a directory structure on your Transflash.

You can now load songs into the audio directory using any tools or direct from your PC.

thanks for the post. I had the letters a bit wrong on the first post, it was B:/ that was the memory card.

But, even after formatting on the phone, it didn't have any folder structure, so in NEWP2KMAN I made an audio folder, just below the root.

I transferred some mp3s in there, and now the phone can see them using the Winamp software. I deleted the Itunes 1.13 software but might put it back on. Why is it so much smaller than the winamp software?

So, I can upload to the b:/audio folder fine, but WOW it takes a long time to transfer to the phone. For example I would put the transfer time for a 4.5MB mp3 at about 8-10 minutes.

Is this normal?

I wonder if I can stick the transflash card in the SD card adaptor and then just transfer it via a card reader from the computer?

Is the itunes software better than the winamp?
Anyone know where to get one of the USB headphones adaptors?

Does this have an EQ?

Posted by: nikepaq

anyone care to comment on transfer speed? I find that 4MB mp3 file takes about 10 minutes to transfer.

this is a USB2.0 connection to the SLVR

Posted by: Aurora-Project

I gave up on in phone transfers, way too slow. I use a usb 2 card reader and it's much faster.

Posted by: e-powersellers

I put the card direct into my laptop and transfer about 100 megs in about 40 seconds.

Hello,
I spent my last 1/2 hr reading all the posts.. there was just one post matching my question but it wasn't answered..
I Have a SLVR L7, and it doesnt have iTunes, I am in India, and I think its only shipped with Cinular (dunno wats it!!) phones. I got DAP instead.. DAP is fine.. but I prefer the Light Player coz of the speed and seek feature..
I would Like to know whether there is some way to let the lightplayer play in background.. i.e while typing msgs.. n stuff.. I guess the orignal iTunes supports this.. and.. is there anyway for lightplayer to read the lyrics? stored in ID3 tags or external files?..
My Phone specs are

N.. one last question, is there anyway to install the ORIGNAL iTunes on my L7? .. n.. what is mTunes?

Sorry for bugging you guys!

Bye!

I can only answer the parts I know.. will leave the rest for the experts.

No, you cannot get real itunes as of yet.

There is a Java / Mobile iTunes you can download, there is also WinAmp.

There is currently no way I know of to get music to play and still do other things on the phone, whenever you try anything else you need to suspend or exit the program.

I don't know what mitunes is.. sorry.

Thanks.. E!
The thing of getting it suspened or ending makes it very impractical.. atleast for me.. wen I read the phone specs.. I was really excited on the thought of getting the iTunes... but all I got was a silly DAP.. which doesn't support minimization.. the thing that pains me is.. the orignal iTunes (as in with the L7 from cingular) supports this.. ( I am not sure though..) ..
Experts.. isn't there anyway to install that? Please reply!
and.. it may sound silly.. but ANY chance that the OS can be converted to Symbian? I am a n00b.. so please dont mind this!

Bye!

PS: Thanks to j0nb for subscribing me!

mine doesn't come with itunes as well, but is practically useless for me anyway, i had tried lightplayer, and it is very cool to have the skin of winamp.... but it is sucking up a lot of battery (from both java and speakerphone).....

maybe it has been covered ? but here is how i play my music : go into the sound section where all the songs are listed, create a playlist there for each album or artist or etc. play it. hide it. i can even run java games while the songs are playing....... as well as all others like editing phone book

Posted by: e-powersellers

Not 100% sure, but I believe the answer is No and No.

From the idle screen click menu>multimedia>sounds>select what you want to play (ie single track or playlist) click play>back>back. You will now have music playing and be able to navigate the phone. I can listen to mp3's and play Bejeweled at the same time.

Just be aware the below does not work with the Cingular branded SLVRs. Cingular seems to have blocked this capability with this phone.

Well that just plain sucks.

Posted by: e-powersellers

I have the German unlocked phone and this does not work at all, once I hit back, it stops playing.

Odd, mines a German unlocked as well.

Posted by: Aurora-Project

Doh! I left a step out, try this.

From the idle screen click menu>multimedia>sounds>select what you want to play (ie single track or playlist) click play>hide>back>back. You will now have music playing and be able to navigate the phone.

Posted by: e-powersellers

Yep, that missing step makes all the difference, you are 100% right, works great!

Easy navigation and everything.. good job, thanks!

*sigh* I wish they hadn't blocked this feature on the Cingular branded ones. Instead of "hide" being available via the right soft key, it offers "details".

Oh, well. At least iTunes is pretty good on the SLVR and runs in the background. I just wish you could hook up the SLVR to more than 1 PC to make changes to iTunes on the phone. That's the limitation that really grinds my gears (even more so than the 100 song limit).

Posted by: outlawX

WoW!
Thnx.. Aurora-Project.. u rock! Its working for me.. I see the 'hide' button... but I dont see the MP3's I had put in the sound directories.. .. working on it.. But anyone who has faced the similar problem?

Posted by: outlawX

hmm.. actually.. the problem is that the "sound" from multimedia doesn't read the files in the memory card... the strange thing is that.. "video" doesnt even reads the videos recorded, or put in mem card.

Any help?

Posted by: outlawX

Hello!
Lol.. I solved the problem.. lol.. I just pressed the # key in the sounds menu and all the videos and mp3s popped up! the default player works in the background and it I can even change the songs by the navigational key.. though I dont think there is seeking option.. still it ROCKS!

..
Thnks everyone..

PS: I dont think its related.. but can increasing the volume through gain table (p2ktools) burn the speakers or smthin?
