Help: Using V3 as Bluetooth modem for my PDA..

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

My PDA has built-in bluetooth and I have connected it with my V3. I have transfered files and done al sorts of neat stuff with them. Only when I use the dial-up networking feature that I have issues.

My phone will receive the number and start placing the call to my ISP but then immediately drops the call before even getting a modem signal. The PDA has not dropped anything as it is still in the "Attempting to connect" window. I have serached and found nothing that can explain to me how to setup a data outgoing call, such as a fax, if that is the case, or how to use my V3 as a bluetooth modem if it is even possible.

Thanks for the help guys.

Depending who your carrier is, you'll have to use THEIR data network instead of simply using the phone to place a standard "modem" call.

Most providers have a specific dialing string that you have to use. Try contacting your provider and explain what you're trying to do....they should be able to help.

Rogers doesn't allow dialing into 3rd party internet providers. They only allow connecting through their data service.

He should be able to dial up to any modem bank and get connected regardless of if he's on fido or not. The network thinks he's on a call. It doesn't know if he's dialed a modem or not.

You have to choose the Bluetooth to GSM option on ya PDA for it to dial the number on your phone.

Not quite. The carrier knows if you are attempting to make a circuit-switched data connection and can block it if they so choose. You'll most likely need to use the GPRS connection by having your PDA dial *99# and using the username/password appropriate for Fido (don't know it offhand, but I'm sure you can find it in the Fido forum). And make sure you're on a data plan that won't cause you to pay huge per-kb charges.
