Ive had the smt, 6682, mpx220, treo, sx66. I have a 520a now and am just getting it to hold me off for a little. I want a smartphone now. I have the grandarthered media works and use about 1200 text a month. I dont mind using itap/t9 but I would prefer the keyboard which means either the HP or the Treo. Has anyone had both and can comment? I really like the GPS on the 6515... Is the 6515 that much bigger (not thinner) than the treo (i know the measurements but I mean opinions in someones pocket)? Any advice on this matter would be great. I like the 1.3mp cam on the HP but it isnt necessary for me I dont think atleast.

I'm debating the exact same phones but with the elusive Cingular 8125 thrown in as well. Every day I change my mind.

I'd still like to see an HP 6515 in person to see how it feels....couple stores I have been to so far were all out.

ive had the smt 5600 i lost that phone and got the HP HW6515 and the first days i hated it because i was never used to do most of the things through the touch screen... then the size factor you have to keep in mind its a two hand device.
now it has a lot of neat stuff my favourite is the possibility of having dual memory cards.... so i could easily have 3GB worth of memory in my ipaq.....
the camera isnt the best one i must say..... and i do miss things like voice dial and personalized riners and sms alerts.
a couple of ppl in my store got the 2125 but they dont really use the data aspect of it... i have noticed an awesome screen resolution and the camera is really cool too.
so it depends what you would be doing with it.
i have yet to see the treo 700.... its just a matter of time before we get it on gsm

Wait, what do you mean you miss personal ringers and sms? You HAVE to be able to do personal ringers and SMS. Also, isnt the 8125 like ENORMOUS?

EDIT: Just did a little googling, turns up it is quite small.... hmmm... eBay says: nothing cingular branded- just the wizard- ARGH

I have been having some of the same problems as you. I have mostly settled on the Hp hw6515. That is unless the hw6915 is coming out soon. Here are my reasons for it.

Dialing Numbers = I am a salesman and will dial phone numbers constantly. The wizard will require me to dial via the touch screen. Treo is also good.

Data Entry = I will entire data appointments, tasks, projects and check pricing for my products. So a large screen/320x240 screen is not important. The keyboard always there is also very appealing.

OS = I was a long time Palm OS user, until 6 months ago. One of our products uses IPaqs. So I took it out and tried it. I took sometime to get used to Windows Mobile, but I now really enjoy it. Palm is now a couple years behind Windows. WM is much better if you want to put multimedia on it. Palm is easier to use out of the box, but I am a fairly computer literate person. So I can make a few extra taps to get me where I want. Do be prepared to purchase 3rd party software to get some things done.

My final reason for going with the hw6515 is the GPS. I wish it had wifi and a faster processor (hw6900 will), but I can live with it as is until the new unit comes out.

You do really need to decide what you want to do with your phone, then search out those functions. If you main use of a phone is calls and messaging then a PDA phone may not be what you want. A Black Berry or sidekick may be a better fit. PDA phones are typically more PDA than phone. The PDA side is the most important part for PDA phones. Phone scoop helped me narrow my search down.

Good luck.....

I am a 6515/8700c/treo650/6682 user.

I will admit I had a hard time going from my treo to my ipaq. I hated stupid little things the ipaq would do, but After about a week I grew to like it even more than than my treo.

The ipaq has a ****** battery life, but has a better camera with flash. The treo has a cool logging function for text messaging. I feel like the internet is a pain in the *** to use on the treo, but relatively easy on the ipaq. I also feel that my ipaq gets better service than my treo.

The GPS is kindof over advertised. It doesn't actually come with the phone. Like it has the feature of having it, but no one in a store will be able to get it to work. Its all 3rd party software that runs it. IMO it was stupid for cingular not to bundle it with the phone.

I'm about to take off my data package and text messaging and start carrying a SDK2. I'm hoping that it will be good for what I need it to do. I send and recieve anywhere between 3000-5000 text messages a month.

I'm also relatively afraid I will break my ipaq should I ever drop it. The screen cover seems really fragile. I accidentally ran my old treo 650 over with my yukon denali, and it held up fine for the day before I went and got my ipaq.

a size comparison. Its just a little bit wider, provided you don't wear really tight pants, you should be fine.

So the HP doesn't have the one handedness of the Treo 650? What if I was driving and wanted to do a quick search with Google Local, would I need 2 hands for that?

First off you shouldn't be driving the internet. Second get MS Voice command. It will make any WM device an amazing device. I played with a co-workers SX-66 with voice command and my jaw dropped on what you can do with it.

People already think I talk to myself...

I went and got a closer look at these devices today. I played around with the 2125 a little and didn't like the mushy joystick or the tiny numberpad at all. I know I would be tossing it out a window trying to T9 on that pad.

Still like the Treo 650, nice size and the keyboard is good.

I finally found a store with a HW6515 and I was surprised, its a lot smaller than it looks in the pics. Very slim as well, I don't think it would be any problem carrying that in my pocket.

My favorite was taking the XV6700 for a test drive. Its the Verizon model of the Cingular 8125 but is almost identical. I gotta say, I really loved this phone. After pecking on the Treo & Hp, the keyboard on this phone felt luxurious. You could really do some serious data entry on this one. The web seemed to be pretty quick as well but then again it was a EVDO Verizon phone. I hate to think how much slower Cingular will be.

I did like the Windows Mobile OS over the Palm OS also.

So for me (at the moment), the 2125 is definitely out. I'm debating between the HW6515 and waiting for either the Cingular 8125 or HW6715.

I like the Treo, but I just felt more comfortable using the Windows OS.

I love watching people walk through a store with thier bluetooth headset on. Cracks me up.

I still like Palm OS, but it is falling behind WM.

The hw6700 is now the hw69xx series. I really would prefer the hw6900 (wifi), but I have decided on the hw6515. GPS is the kicker for me. I travel so much, that it is just too good of an option to bypass. Cell, PDA and GPS together is the final word for me. Just wish HP had included better GPS software.

I may pick up the hw6515 this weekend.

After doing warranty exchange on my Treo 650 3 times, I finally said "What else do you got?" It came down to the Blackberry 8700c and the HP hw6515 .. With RIM's future up in the air, I decided to test the 6515.. While it has taken some getting used to, it's not a bad device. I recently purchased a Wifi SD card and it works without problem in the device. GPS is cool, but stay away from MS Pocket Streets (free download) -- I like Mapopolis (SW is free, but maps are $99 for all you can download -- I tested Austin, TX and it worked 99.44% perfectly).

Screen is nice, and after awhile, you forget that it's only 240x240. Slots on side are nice -- i just got my mini sd card (512mb) so that i can use wifi and sd at same time.

Camera... ehh... whatever...

Sound quality.... it's better than the Treo, but not nearly as good as the Moto Razr my wife has ...

You can't go wrong with this phone, and yes, I was hoping the 8125 would come out before I had to do the last warranty exchange.

E-mail me for any other questions.... gardnerms [at] airpost [dot] net.
