Hi, New to the forum as you can tell by post count and such.

Ive just gotten a SE w600i from cingular when we upgraded plans, i have run into a slight dilemma though. I go to school in Sault Ste Marie, MI, and am having issues with bouncing off the Rodgers tower that is across the river. I looked for the network select option that is supposed to be on the phone, but it seems to have magically disappeard from the list. Funny part is, if i take the sim out and put it in pops phone which has that option then put into mine, it will hit cingular network for a while. Soon enough though it bounces to rodgers again. I dont wanna pay the roaming. Is there something else im missing here, like anohter way to select, or did i get owned by Cingular.

Thanks for the help

Mike

i dont know if u have this but on my w800 there's a mobile networks selection under connectivity....u can try that and see if the cingular network comes back up. just go to select network and it should either have rogers or cingular...so u can just pick cingular if it finds it

Yea,there is supposed to be that option, according to the manual and common senese. But its not there. Ive looked everywhere for it.

My guess is that cingular removed that option from the phone

Thanks for the welcome.

My understanding is that with the new phones (or, perhaps, the new 64k SIM cards), that Cingular removed the network selection option. So we can't "manually" select the blue or orange network, the network decides for us. Yay! erm, yeah.

I think it has to phone, because when i put it in the other phone i have as backup right now, the network selection otion is there.

Ive got one other question. If i were to get the phone unlocked, would that solve my problem? I have found out though some digging that Cingular did indeed
remove the option to select the network. Just to make it clear, in the connectivity tab there is no network selection option.

u have to unlock and unbrand the phone to make the cingular setting remove

It is sim controlled. If I put a old ATT sim in my phone, I can see the network select screen. Put in my 64k Cingular SIM, the option is gone.

Dang, that stinks, oh well. Looks like ill ust keep on doing what ive been doing. That is using the other phone to find the network, then switching the sim into the 600i. Thanks for all your help guys. Maybe ill keep bothering cingular about the problem, ive called probally once a week for the past few weeks asking if there is somthing to be done about this. the worst part is that they could fix this issue, but are retarded and dont want to.
