Apologies to those who can't read Chinese, but this was a cool link and I thought I would share it with you all:

As some of you might remember, I'm attempting to get a x800 LCD replacement and repair it myself... so I came across this during my research.

And no, i have not been successful in finding a screen supplier yet. I'll follow up with more posts when I get the phone in hand (two days).

nice find this was exactly what i was looking for when i had my X800...wanted to change the housing, but decided it wasn't worth it

Posted by: Nick Dellhall

Were you able to find any housings for sale at all?

Posted by: avong

heh. On e-bay? The one with the broken LCD?

Well, the housing color is okay imo. I was hoping they would sell more clear covers... but it looks like i'm just going to have to either (a) cut my own plexi, or (b) use nail polish to clear up one of the two stock covers. The first option is most likely what i'm going to do... but haven't got the time to do so yet.

Update: For those who want to attempt taking apart the EB-X800 as shown in the link above, there are a few things that you might want to know.

1) The screws on the front cover are actually hidden under the grey-ish plastic parts. You can use a small flat head screw to carefully pry them away to reveal the screws. Currently, I'm 're-sticking' them to a piece of backing I use for labels.

2) Y-headed screws - these can be removed with an appropriately sized flat head screw.

3) To open the top lid, I suggest using your finger nails to slowly separate the top panel. Screw drivers are usually too big and might end up scratching away some of the paint work.

4) The ribbons are easy to remove, there are little 'black clamps' that you can lightly pry open.

Now that I have confirmed its only the Main Display that's been damaged, now I have to wait for my replacement screen to arrive.

The top/LCD disassembly is actually quite straightforward. I'm just waiting for the LCD to arrive and install now... *still waiting*

Haven't seen any housings for sale yet. You could take ur housing apart and paint it black

LOL! Nick, considering that it's possible, can you give me a walkthrough on how to paint these small accessories? Should I airbrush it? But I want the same glossy black as the black faceplate the X800 comes packaged with. =D

Well, you COULD in theory prep the casing and paint it with spray paint and stuff, but I advise against this if you're not very familiar with doing stuff like this, especially since the casing for the x800 is relatively fragile.

On another note, my x800 is now well and alive again. Finally got my screen in the mail and installed. however, in midst of my testing I accidentally wiped most of the applications off the phone - argh including much beloved balloon headed boy and quickoffice. Anyone know how to recover those files onto the phone? I didn't back anything up because the phone rebooted everytime I connected an USB cable to it. If someone can gimme a hand, that would be great.

i have a X800 with a broken LCD screen i have no idea what i want to do with it, anyone have any ideas, im no longer using it?

Posted by: Nick Dellhall

Depends where you bought it...

You can always take it back to the place of origin and have it repaired by the local panasonic tech center. Or you can try contacting Panasonic Wireless and see if you can get it fixed (for a fee).

I know there's one or two ebay sellers that also carry the screen (you will have to inquire).

Good luck!

Hi Nick- Did you finally manage to replace the LCD of your Panasonic X800? If yes, please let me know the source where you had purchased it?

Posted by: Nick Dellhall

Hi. I got mine direct from Panasonic Japan, but I'm reluctant to give out the contact because the Tech did this as a courtesy for me.

My suggestion is to source a second hand X800 to replace your screen if possible. Ask some ebay retailers who sell mobile LCD screens to see if they can source one for you.
