Hey Guys... I've done enough search and read enough about Treo 650 but needed one final push before buying this phone.

I'm currently using Sony Clie UX50 with my SE W600i and its PITA to carry both all the time. So I am thinking about Treo 650.

Here are my question
1. Can I just put my SIM Card from SE to Treo and it should work fine ?
2. Do I have to have a Data plan in order for me to use it ? Would Cingular automatically add this to my account when I put my SIM Card in the TREO ?
3. How do I insure the phone from Cingular Insurance ? Contact them and have them update my profile to show the new phone ?

thank you so much...

YES.

Yes/No/Maybe. without a data plan, you get charged PPU (pay per use). Depending on how much use, you might be better off with the PDA or MediaNet unlimited plans @ $19.99.

Currently, Cingular does not offer insurance on expensive phones/PDA's. I could be wrong on this, but you might try calling Lockline direct or your homeowners/renters policy for a "rider" to cover it.

Where are you getting the phone? If from Cingular Cs, they SHOULD try to sell you a data plan.

Good Luck.

Thank you for your reply. I am actually planning on buying it off of eBay.

If insurance doesnt cover if lost or stolen, do they cover it with xchange program ?

I believe the XBM exchange program only covers warranty exchanges for phones bought directly from Cingular.

Consider that the price of a refurb Treo 650 was $199 for new/upgrades and the price on a new unit is $299 (new subscription only)?, I would call customer care and see what kind of pricing they give you.

I have sold phone on ebay, but it is buyer beware and no warranty from the carrier evn on new phones. The warranty is through the manufacturer. XBM is a "courtesy exchange' program offerred by the carrier. This is why they charge you for an express replacement. Otherwise, you would have to send the phone to the manufaturer and be without a phone for days-weeks. Not a good way for your provider to earn extra revenue for data, sms, mms, etc !!!

Good Luck.

thanks all for your help.

I currently have the 9.99 data plan.. do i need to change it or can i keep that with the phone ? thanks again fellows...

you can keep your $9.99 data plan as long as you dont call cingular and put the Treo's serial number on your account. Beware though, it doesnt take long at all to suck down 5megs...be carefull..

Keep in mind that they call tell what kind of device you are using.

Don't ask me how!

I had a Treo 650 and returned it. for about 3 months my the online OCS showed Treo, then it switched to V600 ON ITS OWN. I guess the system reverted back to the type of phone I had previously or something.

Some on this board have stated that Cingular can tell you are tethering (I know this is slightly off topic), but I'm sure the systems have a way of knowing or guessing!
