i got my upgrade today. the sound volume sounds like it increased one notch but now the sound quality has gotten pretty bad. my phone now sounds like a nokia 3360, it disappoints me greatly. if i knew that would've happended, i wouldn't have upgraded heh. on a lighter note, the camera seems to load up faster and the browser seems a hair faster when switching through menus (such as send, cancel, etc. while writing a shortmail).

my $.02

I think the answer is simple-the upgrade was not done completely or correctly. V-35 enhances the volume and from the other posts you can see that it works.

See if you can exchange it for one that has it preloaded. Mine did and so far no probs.

How could it not have been done correctly or completely? The version number is in there and the volume increase is there, only one notch higher though at the sacrifice of sound quality. I've had the phone since November, i'd doubt that they would give me a new one with the software preloaded. I need to hear how a preloaded phone sounds.

if you got the phone at the sprint store they will take it back. when the tech couldn't get the 1.035sp upgrade to work on my phone they gave me a full refund on the phone and i had the phone from day one.

what do you mean by that they couldnt get the upgrade to work? on my phone if i check the version, it says 1.035

the upgrade is suppose to take 45min to an hour the tech said it would only take 15mins i told him that he is wrong. so i let him upgrade the phone for the 15min and it didn't work.

Sounds like the tech didn't do the upgrade correctly. Get another phone.

i replaced my phone and got one that had 1.035 preloaded and i must say i agree with Kane3030 that although the volume is greater the sound quality has gotten worse. it's kinda like the speaker "cracking" when your ringer is too loud or too high-pitched. sometimes i find myself asking the person i'm talking to to repeat what was said - not because i can't hear them but because i can't make out what they're saying.

i don't think it's unsuccessful software upgrade since mine came with 1.035 preloaded. however, if you lower the receiver volume a little it helps some (or so i think)... still love the phone...

i had 1.032 to begin with. why does the upgrade take so long?

just got mine done and it took 30mins. it does not sound bad at all.

Posted by: Kane3030

i still need to hear what a preloaded phone sounds like

Here's a dumb question:

I just picked up the 5300 on the last day of the Circuit City $150 deal... How do I tell which version is loaded? I checked the (pretty much worthless) Sprint manual, and it says nothing about how to check firmware versions...

Menu-->Phone Info-->Version

Bottom line................
V35 enhances the volume... If the phone was upgraded correctly, the handset will have louder volume. If the phone was upgraded incorrectly, the phone will say V35 even though the volume was not enhanced.
