Sharp GX20 and the case of the Random Restart

Hello there,
I've just ordered a Sharp 902 from eBay (I have questions about that in another thread!) to replace my GX20 which seems to be failing. Every so often it seems to randomly restart or turn off. I've tried a new battery and wiping all of the contacts with a soft cloth (on the phone not the battery) think it was some kind of loose connection but no good.
Thing is, I've read comments that indicate other people have had this problem. I've only had the GX20 for a couple of years which I realise makes it old in mobile terms but it's a bit rubbish if something that costs £200/£300 doesn't last more than a couple of years. And if it is a common fault how do we know the problem isn't going to reappear in the Sharp 902's and 903's?
I still like my old GX20 (when it works) and will probably replace my work phone with it. But does anyone know a way of fixing this problem? It also happened to my friends-sisters-gx30!!!
Has anyone else had a problem like this? Anyone found a way of fixing it? The phone is unlocked, but I've never flashed the OS or anything as I don't know how.
Thanks in advance,
Stu.

Would flashing the firmware do the trick do you think?

Yeah a lot of people had the random restart issue with the GX20, me included. I think it was just a design fault on Sharp's behalf, a lot of times I could get the phone to restart itself by bending the flip the wrong way a bit.
Not quite sure how to fix it though. I just put up with it until I got my 903, which I'm happy to say has never restarted on me once

Yep that's the one! If I press my GX20 to close to my head while I'm talking to someone it turns off
Oh well, guess we'll know in a couple if years if it's Sharps "Time to Upgrade" message...

What software version have you?
In Italy the last firmware version of the gx-20 is 281.

Not sure - how can I tell?

To see the software version, you must insert this code: *01763*8371#

Alrighty then, it says:
A02-005-147-GX20 2003/08/05 21:49:03
I guess though that as this mostly happens if the flip part of the phone is pushed it's a mechanical fault, but I was really careful not to touch the screen yesterday and the phone shut off 5 times. Driving me mad! That said, I think I may as well just give up and get a free upgrade from O2, though I'll be sad to say bye bye to Sharp. I think the 902 will be going on eBay, purely because of the size. Hey ho.
