R380 / P800 syncing question

Hi guys, first time posting, although I've been lurkin for a while 
I've got an R380 smartphone, and its been through alot.. starting to show its age with slow downs and frequent crashes.
My question:
When I back up the data from my phone to the PC, is there anyway for me to view my SMS messages on my PC? IE through notepad or something?
And here's a question for the R380 and P800... is there any app/util like an emulator maybe, that would allow me to type out messages on my PC but send them through my phone? (SMS not email)
Lastly, and apologies if this has been asked before, but anyone heard anything from the likes of o2 on P800? Really have to upgrade soon, this phones been on the bliink for months 
(no backlight, vibrator, screen wont function in open flip mode sometimes, phone crashes when deleting messages, etc)
