how do you tell what is newer? i just got my v3 RAZR my flex number ends in 42.09R. ive seen people going nuts about other flexes... but how do i know if its newer/older/better/whatever than what i have? what is the latest flex? how do you read the version numbers?

By searching, reading, and learning.

42.0ER is the latest firmware.

not trying to be a ****, but the first part of your reply was not helpful at all. i'm not a noob to motorola or seem editing, and i know the usual places to look. i've flashed and flexed a phone before, but this was one particular piece of info i never picked up. i've done quite a few searches on this and all i see is a dozen posts all talking about the latest firmware and most of then are old. so please, don't assume i'm a noob just because i asked a question that you already know the answer to. thanks

That's actually a valid question. I was wondering the same thing. I am no expert at SEEM editing, but I've done it enough to feel comfortable doing it. I have been thinking about flexing my new V3, but I'm trying to justify whether the known issues (battery, signal bars jumping, etc.) are worth the change. I know that I would be getting camera recording capabilities and multiple letter phone book support, but is it all worth it? I would be interested to find out what others think too.

well, i will give credit to the one guy who responded. i did upgrade to the software he recommended and i like it a lot...

however, that doesn't change the question.

HOW do you read the version numbers on flash and flex software? how do we know what is newer without someone TELLING us it's newer?

so i guess no one knows the answer or else no one can find this post anymore... (bump) :-)

Well, I'm no expert, but the numbering goes higher as the version gets revised so 40.05 would be older than 42.09.

Once the numbering gets to 9, it reverts to alpha, so 42.09 is older than 42.0E. For example 42.0F, G H, I, J etc...

So look for the numerical first (42.)
Then the numerical or alpha behind it.

I hope that helps

That''t not "alpha", that's BINARY. start at zero, go to 9. Then go to A, etc.

so are the version numbers hexidecimal (ie, 0-9 then A-F)?
