I got the programs("mobile phone tools" and the V186 XP driver) and the hardware(the actual phone and a mini-usb cable)...
Thing is, when i plug my phone into my computer, i dont get ANYTHING. No 'new USB device has been plugged in', or even a new "other device" in the device manager.
Can anyone help me out? Was the USB port disabled on my phone? Its the 'pay as you go Muchmusic' phone from rogers.
And sorry if this was all ready covered. I went through 5 pages on this forum and didnt find anything about it. Also did a search for V186, and got 5 random threads about reviews, or threads about the phones value.

What version of windows do you have? Are you plugged into a USB Hub or a USB port on the front of your computer? Sounds like something wrong on the computer side of it.

Your right, it was a computer issue. I tried using a diff. port on the computer(one that was on the motherboard, not using a headerpin cable) and it showed up fine.
Since then i have used P2K to transfer .gifs and .mp3s fine... new problem is i cant get the MP3's to work as ringtones. Do they need to be encoded in a certain way? Like i can get them to play in the phones 'multimedia' section, but if i set them as a ringtone, and call from another phone i dont get the ringtone. The phone just gives me the 'receiving call' message on the LCD(no sound at all). If i go back to the stock ringtones though, they play fine.
I am encoding the mp3's as:
32kb/s mono, with the LAME encoder. They are all under 30 seconds, and are all smaller then 120kb. Also, they are not variable bit rate.

Hmm... thats interesting. I always use 64kbps, 22khz, mono, and they seem to work fine. I havn't put any I've made on a v186 though so I don't know if those would work.
Check out Motocoders.com for specific info on supported formats.
