i am attempting to load some gereric V180's i have with tmobile and cingular software in an attempt to activate them as prepaid phones. is anyone aware of issues i may have? if the IMEI was originally t-mobile can it be activated on the cingular network and vice-versa? any input would be appriciated.

I have a Cingular V180 that I unlocked and used with T-Mo and Cingular prepaid SIM cards with no problems. I also used the T-Mo FW with a Cingular SIM, just couldn't connect to TZones, as expected, but everything else works fine. I liked the layout of the menu on the T-Mo flex, so I backed em up and sent used the Cingular V220 quadband flex and T-Mo mma files. IMEI didn't matter on any, connected like usual.

yeah i guess i stated the question wrong. i know since the phones are unlocked that the sims will work but my main concern is activating new sims. i know cingular's website requests an IMEI number and won't activate a non-cingular phone. all you have to do is get a cingular IMEI and activate it and it'll work like a charm. but i am worried about my less savy friends who are going to try and activate these. is there a way to do it without running into this problem?

O.K., I'm not quite sure of the question then. If I go to the cingular store and ask for a Go Phone pay as you go SIM and want to use my own unlocked moto, I can pay as little as $15. They don't charge for the SIM, just for the airtime. When I need a refill, just use the 611 automated customer service or call 1-800-901-9878. They don't have my correct IMEI, no problem.

So I guess the answer is get a new free SIM from Cingular, it's free if you use their service. Any V180 flex/flash should work, as long as it has the 850 MHz/1900MHz GSM.
