if so are any of you guys using it with Cingular? if not what provider? and where did you get your p800 from? I really want to get one...

Using it on T-mobile, but it will work on any GSM carrier.

Got mine in early December, the Metrowerks Code Warrior developer edition, and upgraded to commerical firmware.

Hi Jeff, where did you get your p800 from and how much did it cost you? What if the cingular phone i have now doesnt have a simcard? how do i get one? i have a nokia 3360 at the moment, its a TDMA phone, cingular is in the process of upgrading to GSM down here, and should be done in a month...

Well, it was $1,150, but I'm not sure if they sell it any more. Search the site here to see the latest. If you don't have GSM (meaning with a SIM card), then it is of no use to you -- wait until Cingular has GSM in Houston, by then, the price will come down.

is it hard to upgrade firmware on the p800 or no? how does one do it...

I have the P800 on Cingular (GSM 1900). As for upgrading the firmware, its just a matter of sending it to have it done (approx $50).

damn nice, so everytime i wanna upgrade firmware i have to pay $50? wtf, i thought upgrading firmware would be free if we bought the phone, that sucks , where do i take my phone to get it upgraded?

also where did you get your p800 from and how much did it cost? is it the p800 or p800 (import), im still not sure as to what the difference is between the 2...

so how is that phone on cingular's network? works good? any problems? have you tried using the internet, wap and browser on cingular with the p800? or the gprs? i will need to know how to set mine up in order to use it with cingular as well, can ya help me out? hehe thanks

I live in the Northeast and use T-mobile
I also got mine from metrowerks for 1150.

Once it is released in the US you will be able to have SE upgrade the phone for you ( just expect to wait for your phone ).

I will be sending my p800 off to robb or lvwireless for upgrading. They usually get the phone back in the mail the same or next day. Much faster and better service for the money. Where free = when they get to your phone.

LVwireless also has the p800 in stock with released firmware. If your interested in coding for the p800 then go with metrowerks and the upgrade as it will be cheaper and you will also get the added software in this dev, kit.

Good luck, you will not be disappointed with this phone. I love it even with the minor firmware problems of the pre-released phone. Hopefully sending it off this Monday.

**Once the phone is commercially available here in the US, you will be able to obtain firmware upgrades for free from a SE service center. I paid to have my FW upgraded since it's not commercially available yet.

**I got my pre-commercial P800 SDK unit from Metrowerks for $1150. The only difference between the pre-commercial and the final commercial ("import") units is the firmware. The pre-commercial unit has fw R1a whereas the final commecial unit has fw R1b. There is no difference between the two units once you upgrade the firmware of the pre-commercial P800.

**The phone works great on Cingular! I'm actually surprised that it functions so seamlessly on the Cingular network. I have been able to conect to the internet via GPRS and CSD; send and receive pictures, emails with attachments, and sms's without a problem. The only thing that Cingular doesnt support at this time is MMS. If you do decide to get a P800, I will be more than glad to assist you in setting it up.

I'm using the P800 Metrowerks w/ R1B upgrade in NYC. If you are a heavy data user, I would advise T-mobile. AT&T GPRS is more expensive than T-mobile. When traveling, I use GPRS and an HSCSD connection depending on what GPRS conditions are like. Now if only Japan had GSM.

And the Japanese are saying "If only the rest of the world would have WCDMA." And the heck of it is, we will !!

Does T-Mobile offer HSCSD?
