How to upload games for VS3 tutorial

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: avong

Before we begin, lets get ready and have what you need on hand.

what you need is:
-VS3/VS2/VS6/VS7 Panasonic phone i believe that this hack should work on all VS series phone made by panasonic and can confirm that it definitely works on VS3,2 and 7

-A Data cable, this will not work with bluetooth or IRDA you NEED a datacable

-the following programs
x60_phonetools
this program is use to communicate with the phone while its in TEST mode

Com Port Tool Kit
This program is use to SEND the 11.txt hex file

USB_MobileAction
This program is use to SEND Java games to your phone

you will need this hex file

11.txt

now that you have all the tools you need lets begin
================================================== ===
Start COM PORT TOOL KIT i find that this program doesn't load up when you connect your phone with the cable and try starting this program...so its best to just start it first before you do anything else so START this b.itch
================================================== =====
------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP 1. Switch your Phone to TESTMODE
-------------------------------------------------------------------
-Turn OFF your phone
-Now Using 3 fingers or both hands, press the following keys all at once and hold em down (*)(#)(PowerON)
-If done successfuly your phone's screen will show color strips

--------------------------------------------------------
STEP 2. Connect the Data Cable to your phone
---------------------------------------------------------
-as simple as it is PLUG in the data cable i cannot stress this enough

----------------------------------------------------------------
STEP 3. Finding out your phone's COM number
---------------------------------------------------------------
-To find out what COM your phone is using go to on your computer btw:
Control Panel-->System--->Hardware/Device Manager--->Expand "Ports (Com & LPT)" and you will see your phone and COM port located there mines was COM17
--------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP 4. Run X60 Phone Tools program
----------------------------------------------------------------
-Start the Phone Tools Program check the settings and make it so the COM number is the COM of your phone, again mines was COM17, then click "update" it will connect and show a buncha info about your phone

for example something like this:

Target SW Ver: NBG_LEOPARD_05.24 SMARTI_SDB1 SGOLDliteV1.1
Target EEP Ver: 150
RF Band Support: 850 & 900 & 1800 & 1900Mhz
RF:
BaseBand: S-GOLDlite v1.1
Features present: FFS, BlueTooth, AM/FM Radio., MPEG3, Voice Rec, Reduced Signaling Test, Camera, LED & Backlight, IrDa, Monitor Sig.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP 5. UNPLUG THE CABLE AND TURN OFF PHONE TOOLS
---------------------------------------------------------------
-Again its that simple UNPLUG YOUR DATA CABLE from the phone and CLOSE Phone Tools.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
STEP 6. PLUG THE CABLE BACK INTO THE PHONE
---------------------------------------------------------------
-Plug it back into the phone
---------------------------------------------------------

STEP 7. SENDING THE HEX FILE WITH COM PORT TOOL KIT
----------------------------------------------------------------
-IF you were following this tutorial you should have COM PORT TOOL KIT, OPEN already....so set the settings on COM PORT TOOL KIT so that the COM number is your phone again mines was COM17.

-Click send file and have the following checked
http://www.howardforums.com/attachm...achmentid=59318
"send raw data" & DATA TYPE in "string" "Transfer type Single" make sure you choose the 11.txt to send.

-now click SEND

in COM PORT TOOL KIT it has two windows, if send successfully it should.

the left window says "41 54 23 00 04 00 5C 10 01 00 01 0D" sent
the right window says "05 00 02 00 01 00" received
---------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP 8. YANK OUT THE BATTERY OF THE PHONE TO SHUT IT OFF
-----------------------------------------------------------------
-you heard me just yank out the battery because thats the only way to get out of TEST MODE. after that TURN ON you phone NORMALLY again.

CLOSE COM PORT TOOL KIT you won't need it anymore
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP 9. Start USB_MobileAction and send your game
------------------------------------------------------------
-Again make sure USB MobileAction's settings has your phones COM number mines was COM17. so that it can connect with your phone

-Now if its connected successfuly click on the "FILE MANAGER" button
and click on the VIDEOS FOLDER choose your .JAR file and upload it to your phone...the file doesn't go to your Video folder it automatically goes into your game folder when you select it your phone will ask you to install it and then you can play

very nice! thanks

Posted by: matchung

im just curious.
if the phonetool can access the vs3 correctly, why dont you use the EEPROM editor provided by phonetool, change the static mobile_virant[2] to 1, update the phone. that's all, no need the com port kit.

Posted by: whatywhatan

i acually didnt really understand step 4. i couldnt really find the things that were mentioned. i have the armarillo thing, but i dont know where to go after that.

Posted by: matchung

it should run the phonetool, get the PT code (when starting the phonetool first time), then run the armarillo to generate the reg. info for the phonetool..

correct me if wrong.

Hey guys I am able to upload the games to my VS3 however they size of it is too small? Is it because it is recognizing it as Panasonic X410? I follow the step from the tutorial... but when i did the x60tools the info comes up as the panasonic x410... any help?
thanks

Posted by: Peeta01

Okay I done this but the only thing is the on step 4 it doesnt recognize my phone as VS3 or any of the futures it recognize it as something else... Am I doing this wrong? I followed the steps.. and in the end when i turn on the mobileaction it says its a Panasonic X400... So when I upload the games it turn out to be smaller than what its suppose to be... Is this suppose to happen...
thanks

"Unable to set COM Port"

Any help is very appreciated, thanks.

what you need is the usb cable not the serial one, what you need to find is the number of the COM port. it's explained above

its clearly explained alright...the cable i have right now fits into usb not to the serial port...and my querry is that is there a way to convert this usb into a serial one...

Posted by: kelvinchan

Hey man, thanks a lot for this. The problem I had was that I didn't use the USB_MobileAction that was provided in one of the links above. Instead, I used the software that came with the phone! Hope that helps some of you who are still having problems with this.

Posted by: nitzomoe

thanks buddy fr the update, its a bit too late for me now though

Posted by: Stash_Bux

I did all of the steps and when I get to the File Manager and try to upload the .jar file to the Video folder, a message comes up saying that "This file is not allowed to be uploaded to the handset!" can some1 help me with this problem. I use a VS7 BTW

Posted by: el-hoy

To upload games use the File Manager of USB Mobile Action, the file manager of the Handset Manager of Panasonic isn't useful to upload games. Excuse me for my English, I'm Spanish.

Posted by: emotions

How do I install the Phonetools? It opens up as "armadillo" and i installed that..... then what? Need clarification please

*Edit*

Nevermind, I get it now -_-', another question. what is a good site to find games, that fit for the vs series?

Posted by: Chilly88

Hello all. I'm new here as well as my brand new PINK panasonic Vs2. This tutorial was very usefull and worked perfectly. However there are some elements I don't fully understand! firstly what is this "mci_eep148.cfg" file. I'm guessing it's the eeprom file on my Panasonic Vs2 but whenever I use phonetoolx60 it gives me an error when trying to offload the eeprom.

Maybe this has to do with the "Armadillo" program and somehow it cracks phonetoolx60, I'm not very clear on this. Also is there a way to "offload" games and pictures that came with my phone? I realize that these games are protected somehow and don't allow forwarding (as I have found out) but how do you guys upload java games to the internet for us to download?

Also does anybody know if panasonic box costs money to download items from (obviously it's going to cost to use WAP to access but I'm talking about charges for the games downloaded) I have already tried to access "wap.panasonicbox" with the browser "Opera" but when I login it gives me a "your terminal is incompatible" has anybody been able to get around this?

-Cheers.

Posted by: Xerosis

go to http://box.panasonic.com No they are free, not very good though lol.

Posted by: emotions

........ew

Posted by: alexenoxu

is it just me, or do the games not fill up the whole screen? some of it only occupies 1/2 or 2/3 of the screen.

Posted by: alexenoxu

also, when im in panel.exe, in settings, it says that the handset is the x-400. is it suppose to be like this or did i do somehting wrong? cause that may be a problem to why the games are smaller than it should be?

Posted by: Chilly88

Some games are only designed to only run at a certain size so they are compatible with phones that have a smaller screen. So you will never get them to run at full screen anyway.

Posted by: _bart_

Hello
I did it but i have one problem. My Handset Menager - Video doesnt see *.jar files. Could you tell me what? I can choose only videos files

Posted by: sKu

ok ok, everything works fine, i make the tutorial and it works, its great but i just have a little problem, see, i can send the java files, no problem with that, then i close the file manager and wanna see the new game, open the java games carpet and there is nothing !!, i check the video carpet and there is the game(s), so i try to open it and says: "NOT SUPPORTED FILE" WTFF?!!!!! i need help!! any idea??

Posted by: RibenaBoy

how do i generate the key? i keep getting "This is not a valid name/key combination for this project." so what is a valid name?

Posted by: chocobo_ff

does anyone know if this will work with an asian VS7? I have a traditional chinese phone, and i don't think it'll be a problem but just like to make sure that i'm not going to do anything to kill my phone... thanks in advance

Posted by: miguel_merida

i need help, have the cable but the sw "usb handset manager" don't see de cable, how install the cable or were find the drivers for the cable mi cel is a vs2

Posted by: miguel_merida

i think that my cable is generic but dont's say the model sorry for my inglish

Posted by: techo_bg

I've got a major problem gyus.
I did all the steps many times and I still get the same result.
When i drag the .jar file ineto the upload field of the menager nothing happens. No "upload' icon on the toolbar's left corner appers. My phone is turned on (i mean not in test mode when i upload). Should it be like that.
PLease people I'm desperate. I only bought the cable to uploud games.!

Posted by: lamee

okay. uhm. guys? i have a problem here..its regarding step 4. what exactly am i suppose to do??? i raed the other thread and realise one guy had the same problem. and you said this "it should run the phonetool, get the PT code (when starting the phonetool first time), then run the armadillo to generate the reg. info for the phonetool.." to be frank, this point of time, im like so can you rephrase the whole of step 4?? sorry for the trouble.

same here! except i use a vs3... please help!

Posted by: lamee

hahas. the thread starter dont know go where le.

Posted by: hanako

in response to my last reply, i found out that if you upload the games in the sounds folder instead, it will go into the games folder automatically!

yay, but now the games don't work properly because the keys are not the same. i used s700 games...

Posted by: matchung

acutaully, any folder will be ok for JAR uploading.

Posted by: Nil Einne

This tutorial is great except that the jucy pixels website is gone (now points to a domain parking website)

I'm sure there is someone here with the programs previously on juicy pixels, could you upload them somewhere? If you don't know where, please PM me and you can send them to me and I'll try and find somewhere.

Also, avong, it sounds as if what this mod is doing is enabling the phone to receive JARs via the video folder. Do you know how to reset the phone to turn off this option?

Cheers

I have the EXACT same message. I went through the tutorials step be step, over and over, on the VS2 and the VS3. Everything went smoothly UNTIL the last step where you upload it and I get that error message... "This file is not allowed to be updated to handset!"

Posted by: Nil Einne

Perhaps if you help others retrieve the files that were on the dead links, more people would be able to try this mod and we might be able to diagnose your problem? *hint *hint

BTW, I hope you guys having problems have read the tutorial and the whole thread and are not doing stupid, pointless things like using the mobileaction that came with the phone rather then the version that was on the dead/gone site...

Thanks for the How To, it works like a charm

And because the old link is dead, i uploaded the file manager software myself here's the link: Panasonic V# Mobile Action

And let's start a list of games that actually work on the V-Series.

OMG!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I have the SAME USB Mobile Action software, but for some reason, it didnt' work on mine. I tried both MA and Panasonic software, but no luck. Your's worked for some reason... The only difference I found was on the Interface Setup (where you choose the COM ports), you can change the COM ports on yours. The Handset Model also says "PANASONIC_X410" instead of "PANASONIC VS2/VS3". Maybe that solved it? You have to install the app telling it you have an X410?

Anyway, you just made my day!!! THANKS!!!

Posted by: p3rdido

hey if youre looking for the programs to upload games to panasonic i put them in a winrar archve

this is the link to download them

I hate to say this, but this is what comes from NOT BOTHERING TO READ THE FIRST POST AND THE FOLLOWING POSTS PROPERLY. It was quite clear to me that the mobile action that was in the first post was different from the one that comes with our phones. For starters, the first post makes it quite clear that you may have to change COM ports. If you could not change COM port on the version that came with your phone, then it should come as no suprise to anyone that it's the wrong version. Even if you didn't notice this, anyone who had bothered to think about it would have mentioned that they were using the version that came with their phone instead of the file that was linked to because it should be obvious that maybe, just maybe there is a difference between the version that came with your phone and the version that the first poster mentioned? And maybe, just maybe the precise reason why a program was distributed in the first post was because the vast majority of people don't have that program?

But it isn't just that people don't bother to follow instructions and don't bother to think that annoys me. It's that people don't bother to READ the thread before asking stupid questions or complaining. If this had been one of those page threads with the answer buried somewhere in the middle, perhaps this could be forgiven. But it's not. In fact this issue was raised in the first page of this thread. Specifically

There is also another post a few threads later where someone else says you must use the USB mobile action not the software that came with the phone.

Of course, it doesn't really surprise me that there are a bunch of people who don't bother to read the thread and don't even bother to properly read the instructions and think about what they're doing. That was why I said in my reply a few posts back
Quote:

Precisely because it occured to me that there would still be a bunch of idiots who are doing stupid things like using the software that came with their phone even though it should be obvious that it's not going to work.
<end rant>

Okay sorry for that long rant. But it irks me deeply when people don't bother to read the instructions properly, don't bother to think about what they're doing and don't bother to read the thread before making stupid and pointless posts about something not working when it should be obvious what the problem is.

Anyway I've got it all working! Thanks greatly avong for the original tutorial and also saigan and pr3dildo for reuploading the needed files. Although kind of ironically, I now find juicypixels is BACK. Not only that but I came across the needed files from a Chinese forum while trying the tutorial (more on that later).

I also want to thank matchung! I didn't actually follow the tutorial exactly. I didn't bother to use the comport program thing. Instead I changed eeprom setting like s/he said using X60 tools. That's why I ended up finding the stuff on the Chinese website becoz I needed the eeprom file for MCI 148. It worked fine. I'm assuming avong's file does the same thing it just makes it a bit easier and less risky. But I choose the eeprom method becoz I wanted to see the eeprom and I wanted to know how to re-set it to the original.

BTW, I've found out the Mobile Action you get from their website for the VS2 doesn't work either. I'm assuming art was using this version. Given that the juicypixels website was down especially, I guess it isn't quite so bad as a user who just tried to use the default software that comes with the phone but I'm still of the opinion it should have been obvious that it could be a problem using a potentially different version.

Anyway I don't want to go in to this anymore. Suffice to say, use the recommended files!

Now all I have to do is to find out how to unprotect the files originally on my phone so they are forward allowed and I can download them. Don't suppose anyone knows how? Also anyone seen the Sonic game that came with the phone around? Or maybe someone knows how to save games from the phone? My phone is from Vodafone NZ and they didn't include the game (probably so you'd buy more games from them).
