No takers, eh? I'm going to try to find one of those schottiky diodes this weekend and modify mine. I'll let you 4900/5300 guys know what happens.

I finally got around to modding my cable. After doing some testing I figured out the diode is not needed. The 4900 will not back feed, it must have a diode inside the phone already. I just used a jumper wire instead. It works great! Hook up the cable and it shows the battery is charging. I haven't tested to see how long it takes to charge compared to the wall charger. It should take longer due to USB only being 5VDC and the wall charger is 5.4VDC. The only problem I could see with this is the phone reports to the USB controller that only 100ma is needed. This is now incorrect due to the phone is charging the battery as well. I would not hook it to a non-powered hub with other devices. Only hook it up to the port itself or to a powered USB hub.
I'm like a kid at christmas with a new toy! I'll just bring my usb cable for charging purposes when I travel, if it doesn't take forever to charge that is.
