i have a cable for my lg vx 7000 with QPST and bitpim. bitpim does not recognize my phone's contact list, it only allows me to see my phone's file system, same thing with QPST.

how can i download my contact list?

That's odd.

I have the 7000 and can use BitPim to get the phone contact list, no problem.

Try updating and re-installing to the latest BitPim, you may have a corrupt file somewhere.

1. Click on "Data" along top of the Window
2. Click the "Phonebook" checkbox and "Add"
3. Click OK
4. At the bottom of the new list, again click 'OK' and you should be returned to the saved version of your phone book data on the PhoneBook tab.

Hope that helps!

well first of all, i just downloaded the newest version of bitpim (8.7) and i am still getting the same problem. when i click data, i see all the options but they are unclickable. i would also like to add that bitpim sees my phone as "other cdma phone" and not the vx7000.

i dont get whats going on here!

It certainly sounds like your drivers aren't properly installed...or perhaps there's a conflict with another USB device.

My next step would be to try to re-install the drivers. That's a real pain, but I don't know any way around it. Perhaps someone else will weigh in with a solution but it sounds like you're in a bit of a hurry.

hmmm, there has got to be another way to download my contacts besides bitpim.

does anyone know how to access the contacts through the filesystem using QPST?

You can download the directory:

/pim

...and all of its files. Whether the new phone will "read" that information is unknown to me.

The files are NOT the phone directory as you see it but break it down to entries, numbers, groups, incoming, missed, outgoing, etc.

Worth a try!

thanks, i downloaded the /pim directory. i will try to put it on my new phone once my new cable arrives.

hope it works.

i have a problem also using my data cable. i have the lg vx6100 and the usb data cable....i downloaded the driver from futuredial.com and have the latest version of bitpim and also QPST. the cable seems to be ok... when i plug it in i hear the beep on the computer and in the device manager it says that the cable is working properly...however when i plug my phone in and open either of the programs, they dont seem to recognise that there is even a phone hooked up... so what should i do next?

It's been so long since I installed the drivers I hate to give you advice! I only remember that once I uninstalled and tried to re-install them and it was a nightmare.

If I recall, I got good advice a couple of places:

The Tutorials at MP3Ringtones4U
(You have to join the forum in order to view the tutorials...but no malware or popup ads)

...and the commercial site CellPhoneMall

ok ive done the uninstalling and reinstalling but i still cant get the programs the destinguish my phone through my cable.

cav_man04,

Did you read the Tutorials at the site above? It details what to do if you can't get it to install to the right port...and that's usually the problem. This isn't a new problem, it's been around for quite a while.

Just un-installing and re-installing works for some people...but then some of us have real problems getting the software/hardware connection to work. It's all about port numbers and getting the right one.

ok i read the tutorials on mp3ringtones4u... i found 1 that the guy had pretty much the same problem as me... QPST and bitpim wasnt recognising the phone. And how he was told to fix it by getting the com settings right on both programs.... i already knew that...ive been searching through these tutorials the i have found in different forums all day thats how i got my driver for my cable... but i still cant get my phone recognised.
