Anyone using the 703shf

Hey guys,

Is anyone out there using the new 703shf?

I'm looking to pick up a phone and although I would love to get a 903sh I think it's better to pick up something less fantastic and wait for a slimmer 4MP camera phone from a Japanese manufacturer next year or whatever

Looking at either this sharp one, or a Panasonic VS-2 / VS-6.

Kind of up in the air at this point and was hoping I could get some feedback from people who are using it. My only concern at this point is that part at the top seems to stick out, it almost looks like the phone is on a dock or something, and that kind of annoys me. Maybe I just need to see a decent pic...

Thanks!
m

from what i understand functrionality is basicallt the same as the 703Sh only real difference is the desin is changed a little and it is a aqous screen but basically it is the 703SH btw something to consider SFH only has jap firmware and will only ever have jap firmware from what i understand

I can't even find a 703SHf, and yeah you would need to put 703sh firmware on it. I can't even find a 703sh come to think of it...

My gf uses one right now... of course, the pink one. And it's running on the Japanese firmware. The only problem she is having is that she can't seem to search through her phonebook from entering in letters. So her only way is to scroll up or down. She has the phonebook on "Sort by Reading" and the readings are there for each contact. If anyone can help, it'll be greatly appreciated!

The only other thing is that you can't use mp3 or aac as ringtone, but I guess I'll just have to find ways around that.

It's a nice little phone... pink is girly... so if you have a gf... Valentine's Day is coming up... so yeah... anyway

Thanks in advance!

Quick question to all you 703 users, does the phone have a flash for taking pix?

Posted by: yumenoko

I've got the 703sh and nope, no flash. I think aside from that and the fact that the camera is on the bottom of the phone (what the hell? That cracked me up and when I take pics I look an idiot holding my phone over my head!) it does just about everything -- no, more -- than I could have wanted. I've still got the HK fw and since I did all the settings for MMS, SMS, WAP, voice mail, etc. myself, I can say I'm proud and boastful of my Hime sama. And it does about 95% of what the 903 can do but for half the price, at least.

the phonebook. - Japanese phones with japanese f/w have different method of search. They don't use the ascii code like everybody else. Which means, you will have to re-enter all the phone numbers. ^^" its easier to do it that way. i could tell u the other way. .but it gets really really messy and fustrating.

Zerofighter there is a way around that. What you do is you put the phonebook in category view. Once you select a category, you can search by entering one letter at a time, as long as the 'reading' field is the same as the name.

-------------

The only difference between the 703SH and the 703SHf, software wise is that the 703SHf can read Japanese QR codes, function-wise its exactly the same.

I got my 703SH here in Japan from a Vodafone shop for 2940 Yen, with no contract cancellation fee. Now I'm just waiting for my cable to arrive so that i can unlock it.....

Hi I was wondering if there's any easy way to transfer mp3's from ur computer and use it as a ringtone because I seem to be having a lot of trouble doing that.

Posted by: ZeroFighter

Thanks everyone for their input!
I've figured it out by reading Maikurukun's post on the Japanese 903sh... that 's' doesn't equal to 'S'. I just put all the reading to lower case and search is fine now once again.

Now my next question is... does anyone know what are the limitations of using mmf ringtones on the 703shf? I've created one that's less than 30 seconds long and under 300kB in size and it won't even play it. It just says [Title]Invalid. The mmf is either MA-5 or MA-7, I forgot.

If anyone can shed some light, that'd be great, thanks!

mmf works with 5.. or 7

Posted by: da_dawg88

Actually the Sharp 703SHf only supports MA-3 which means that your WAV files have to be 16000Hz tops.

Posted by: Timsta

really. why is it that low? it was ma5 for 903 and 902. thats good to know i would have im agined. the settings would be the same for both.. i guess thats possibly why some 703SH not SHF can't play mmf.

Thanks! That's great to know!

That means there really isn't any way the 703shf can have good quality ringtones :S

Tell me about it I searched long and hard through the net only to find out that MA-3 is the max it supports. If you use MA-5 files it will give you a "Invalid Title" error. The quality is good enough but the volume is very very low. You'll probably need an editor to bump up the volume first too.

Hope that helps.

confirming that my gf's pink 703shf doesn't play MA-5 or MA-7 file. only MA-3 will work on this phone.

Same here...

Did everyone get a pink one for their gf's or something?

Posted by: Maikurukun

lol happy u enjoyed my post.
anyways. i guess someone can send u a tester.. see if it works.. pm u're email to me.. and ill send u the one i use on my phone

It's all about the number of polyphonic tones the phone supports. Most ones made for the Japanese market work like this (excepting DoCoMo phones, they can be weird):

16 tones - MA2
40 tones - MA3
64 tones - MA5
128 tones - MA7

703SH was announced with the capability of 40 tones... so MA3.

And just to make things simpler for everyone:

802SH: MA5 (64 tones)
902SH: MA5 (64 tones)
703SH: MA3 (40 tones)
903SH: MA7 (128 tones)
703SHf: MA3 (40 tones)
804SH: MA7 (128 tones)
GX40: MA3 (40 tones)

703shf = 703sh + felica support

Posted by: yangj08

Does anyone know if Felica only works in Japan, or can this be used as a Felica card in another country (say, the Octopus card in Hong Kong)?

Posted by: da_dawg88

From what I hear you can use it with the Octopus system in Hong Kong which gets me something to play with the next time I visit Hong Kong.
