My list of compiled hacks & tips for the XV6700 Updated 8/22/06

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: VZW E

I quickly put together all the hacks I could find available for the XV6700 & thought I would share. I did not write any of these. They were copy and pasted together from many sources so use/try them at your own risk. Good luck XV6700 team!

What you will need to do most of these hacks is a Registry editor. You can download one of them here.

Unbranded phone without any Verizon customization

"How to avoid Verizon customization, more memory & features.

This is actually pretty simple and does not require any hacks whatsoever.

What you will get:

'Unbranded' phone without any Verizon customization!

More memory, ~10MB more for me. The MMS package alone uses around 4MB.

No Verizon links, no EVDO, no bs.

You can still install the customizations later if you need any of them, I don’t.

More features. The phone application alone has like 4 new services to play with.

Wifi & phone can be used at the same time, no need to edit the registry.
Possibly obex and other crap Verizon took out.

Steps:

1. Hard reboot the phone. This is done by holding the two soft keys and pressing the reset button. Hit "Y" to continue.

2. Go through the screen calibration, zone and password screens.

3. When you get to the "Complete" blue screen where it asks you to tap to start using the device, put the stylus on the reset button but don't press it.

4. Tap on the screen. You will get a message saying that the OEM (Verizon) customizations will be installed on 3 seconds.

5. Hit reset as soon as you see the message and you're all set.

When the phone reboots you will have a fully functional 'unbranded' phone without all the garbage Verizon adds to it.

WiFi and phone can be used at the same time - there are no longer any locks. Obex may work as well, I have no way to test it. Also, you get some extra menu items here and there. Works flawlessly.

If you do need some of the crap Verizon installs, open up the Extended ROM partition and install it by clicking on the cabs. Don't run the remove. cab."

See linked thread for more information!

I did this on the VX6700 I have and it works great (no hacks required).

I did turn EVDO back on - very easy to do as noted below:

(modified from Xterra13)

"Steps:

1. Open Settings and select the Connections Tab.
2. Click Connections.
3. Add a new modem connection.
4. Name the connection whatever you want.
5. Select Cellular Line as the modem.
6. Enter #777 as the number to dial.
7. Enter User Name number@vzw3g.com and password vzw; leave domain blank. (Xterra13 suggested leaving all blank and the setting thru PIE).
8. Click Finish.
9. Go to Connections and select Advanced Tab.
10. Click 'Select Networks'.
11. Under Network Management, select 'My Work Network' in both slots.
12. You may have to select Edit to make sure the EVDO Modem is selected."

If you did the unbranded phone hack and would like to access the extended rom to install just what you want. Follow the steps below

Btw, the MMS stuff takes up like 5MB. I don't use it and see no reason to pay Verizon money to send these useless messages.

"How would i access the extended ROM cabs, etc. after removing the VZ stuff?" You are not removing anything, you're just not installing the customizations.

"Do you have "Device Lock" on the today screen after removing the VZ stuff?"
Not sure what you mean by device lock. Everything works like it should.

Change Start Menu Color

The registry Binary Value key that controls the font color on the start menu is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Color\39 and value for black is 00 00 00 00. Here are values for other colors: black = 00 00 00 00 red = FF 00 00 00 green = 00 FF 00 00 yellow = FF FF 00 00 blue = 00 00 FF 00 purple = FF 00 FF 00 White = FF FF FF 00

Registry Hack for keyboard LEDs

Open you registry editing program and go to: HKEY_Current_User, then go to Control Panel, then to Backlight, then at the bottom you'll see a key that says QKEYLED TIMEOUT.

Modify that key and change the D Word from 10 to whatever seconds you want. I have mine set for 60. After you make your change click ok, then do a soft reset. It works for me! 60 seconds seems to be for me the best setting, 10 seconds was way to short. Hope this helps!

Speed Up Your Windows Mobile Pocket PC.

WOW my Pocket PC is fast! I just bumped into an old registry tweak that I have yet to use o_n Windows Mobile 2003. A foreign site todopocketpc had mentioned this and I was surprised I had not used it o_n my new install. o_nce I applied this reg tweak I immediately saw a difference in how fast my Windows Mobile Pocket PC responded. Today plugins load faster my Games folder loads faster. Its just an overall better experience. I would highly suggest backing up your Pocket PC before you try this as playing with your registry can cause problems if you do not know what you are doing. Protect your Pocket PC BACKUP!

If you need a registry editor, you can find a free one at http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/regeditce.shtml

1. Open your registry editor o_n your Pocket PC
2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\GDI\GLYPHCACHE\
3. Change the value of 'limit' from 8192 to 32768
4. Close registry editor and soft reset.

Registry tweak to store the Pocket Internet Explorer data on your Mini-SD

EDIT: The following post is a registry tweak to store the Pocket Internet Explorer data on your Mini-SD card instead of the internal storage. It currently results in a PocketIE error where it crashes and closes immediately after loading a page. Clearing the data using the options in PocketIE solves the problem temporarily.

ok here's what i've figured out...
(i suggest backing up your registry before changing anything, as always)

find this key:

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Exp lorer\Shell Folders\

3 values are here:

\Windows\Profiles\Guest\History
\Windows\Profiles\Guest\Cookies
\Windows\Profiles\Guest\Temporary Internet Files

Create a folder on your storage card for all three and edit the values above:

I used:

\Storage Card\My Documents\IE\History
\Storage Card\My Documents\IE\Cookies
\Storage Card\My Documents\IE\Temporary Internet Files

After doing this, I ran PocketIE and browsed a few websites and it appears that the temporary files are now being stored on my storage card! Let me know how this works for you...

you should be able to clear your Windows\Profiles\Guest folder now...it had been saving my gmail login/pw and when i changed the registry to bounce it to the storage card, it no longer remembered...so it's not using these folders anymore.

My last question would be about the folder \Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5 - but that folder, for me, appears to be only taking about 20kb.

good luck...let me know how this works for you guys.

edit: i just found that, after making these changes, if you go to clear your temporary internet files through pocketIE, it will clear the storage card folders...if you want to clear your windows/profiles folder (which you should, to get all that space back), either do it before making these changes, or do a soft reset and use file explorer to delete the files right afterwards.
================================================== =============

yes. it can, you can use tweaks2k2, sktools or memmaid to do this for you, or if you are brave you can edit the registry yourself:

Quote:
1. Make a cache directory on your (optimized) memory card. Let's call it, for example, 'cache' (its name is really irrevelant).
2. go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders]

3. click Cache in the pane below (if you use any registry editor except Total Commander 2.0); it's highlighted in the following screenshot:

4. enter the new path instead of the old (\Windows\Profiles\guest\Temporary Internet Files); for example, \Storage Card\cache:

5. now, the updated value should be shown in the Cache value

Please note that you don't need to reset your device after modifying this value, contrary to what some people say.

I say soft reset anyways, just to be safe.

Enabling Dial Up Networking

1. Go to the PHONE application
2. typed in ##3328873
3. then hit send

5. enter code 000000
6. new window pops up Named "ESPT"
7. There are two options that read diabled Enable WModem and BT DUN
8. Highlight the the first item then click edit on the bottom
9 Choose enable
10 Hlight the the second item BT DUN then click edit on the bottom
11. Choose enable
7. Push Save / OK
8. Push Ok
9. follow the prompt to restart your device

after your VX7600 restarts launch "My Bluetooth Places" on your laptop
then turn on blue tooth on your vx6700 by clicking Start / Settings / Connetions / Bluetooth/ check off Turn on Blue tooth and make my device discoverable

then click discover service in the my bluetooth place on your laptop pair the devices together.when done. The laptop will say found new device Dial Up Netwoking on BT Device.

drivers are there in Win XP I did not load any drivers to do this

Click connect

put in phonenumber@vzw3g.com for user name
then vzw for the password
and #777 in the dial box.

then clcik for all users.

then click remember setting and connect.

this is on my Win XP SP2 Laptop

did not do anything else except what is lised above to connect,,

once connected I did go in and do this on the VX6700

under /hklm/software/oem/wmodem/ wModemDUN I set that from 0 to 1

did not restart the unit or laptop.

Enable WIFI & Phone to work at same time

OK!!! heres the problem.

A lot of us want to be able to use phone and evdo at the same time.

1) Download PHM Regedit (search google for "phm regedit download")
2) start phm regedit go to HKEY LOCAL MACHINE>SERVICES>WirelessMGR
3) Edit the key called mutexflag change the value from 1 to 0
4) accept the changes close the program set you phone down and WAIT 15 minutes.
5) reset phone by pushing the reset button on the bottom
Now you can turn wifi and phone on at same time

Now for what you do to solve your problem with connecting on accident to EVDO
1) go to START>Setting>Connections>Connections>Manage Existing Connections>
2) push and hold on top of data network until the option delete pops up
3) delete it NO MORE EVDO

Using Voice Command to open specific websites

I was wanting to use Voice Command to open a specific web site. For example I wanted to say "Open Weather" and it would go straight to my local forecast on www.weather.com.

To do it I:
1. Opened internet explorer, found my local forecast and saved it as a favorite.
2. Opened Windows Explorer and copied the internet shortcut I had created from the Windows\Favorites folder and pasted it in the Windows\Start Menu\Programs folder.
3. I renamed the shortcut to "Weather"

I can now use Voice Command to go directly to my forecast. Obiously this could be done with any website I visit on a regular basis (like ORB). I suppose if I create enough my programs folder will look pretty full, but with Voice Command I don't really care so much.

- When done, reset the device.

Speedup GLYPHCACE

-Note - users have had issues with this tweak
1. Open your registry editor o_n your Pocket PC
2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\GDI\GLYPHCACHE\
3. Change the value of 'limit' from 8192 to 32768
4. Close registry editor and soft reset.

Moving PIE cache to SD card

Note: Some note this tweak results in a PocketIE error where it crashes and closes immediately after loading a page. Clearing the data using the options in PocketIE solves the problem temporarily.

- (i suggest backing up your registry before changing anything, as always)
- find this key:
-HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Exp lorer\Shell Folders\
- 3 values are here:
- \Windows\Profiles\Guest\History
- \Windows\Profiles\Guest\Cookies
- \Windows\Profiles\Guest\Temporary Internet Files
- Create a folder on your storage card for all three and edit the values above:
- I used:
- \Storage Card\My Documents\IE\History
- \Storage Card\My Documents\IE\Cookies
- \Storage Card\My Documents\IE\Temporary Internet Files
- After doing this, I ran PocketIE and browsed a few websites and it appears that the temporary files are now being stored on my storage card! Let me know how this works for you...
- you should be able to clear your Windows\Profiles\Guest folder now...it had been saving my gmail login/pw and when i changed the registry to bounce it to the storage card, it no longer remembered...so it's not using these folders anymore.
- My last question would be about the folder \Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5 - but that folder, for me, appears to be only taking about 20kb.
- good luck...let me know how this works for you guys.
- Note: isome say, after making these changes, if you go to clear your temporary internet files through pocketIE, it will clear the storage card folders...if you want to clear your windows/profiles folder (which you should, to get all that space back), either do it before making these changes, or do a soft reset and use file explorer to delete the files right afterwards.
Additional note:
- tweaks2k2 has a tweak to change your registry type from HIVE to a file. so you wont run into these problems.

================================================== =============

Make PIE look like version IE 6.0

(advert security check on websites) (Note: This can cause content problems. Esp. with video streams. You will get the following errors - Cannot play the file. The file is either corrupted or the Player does not support the format you are trying to play".)
- Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\
- Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\User Agent \
- Change the default value from "Mozilla/2.0" to "Mozilla/4.0".
- Change the "Version" value from "MSIE 3.02" to "MSIE 6.0".
- Change the "Platform" value from "Windows CE" to "Windows NT 5.1".
- Some web sites may just compare the user agent string, but if this is not enough, browse to the Post Platform\ sub key and delete the "240x320" value that specifies screen size.

Setting MP3/WMA/WAV for rings tones

- Add media files into "\Windows\Rings\" folder
- or
-Use File Explorer and click and hold on media file and select "Set as Ringtone"
- They will now be available in the phone preference section as well as the contact ringtone section.
- Recommendation: Use only 15-20 second long clips for ringtones to save space.

Setting WMA/WAV for alerts

- Add WAV files into "\Windows\" Folder
- They will now be available in the Settings>Sounds and Notifications section.
- Recommendation: Use only 5-20 second long clips for Alerts to save space.

================================================== =============

Avoid notification slow downs

- Fix that problem with Scary Bears Check Notifications. It has a utility that will check for and delete the duplicates. There is also a utility to check and delete duplicates at startup. I noticed a nice improvement with this program.
- Or try:
for those who hates the "Message Sent" notification after sending an SMS, this is the steps to remove the bubble notification...this is the STEP by STEP method to do it in case some of you guys dont get it right...
1. First, you will need to download a Registry Editor to help you do it...
a good one will be the freeware PHM Registry Editor
or for those who got the Resco Explorer, you can use the Registry Editor that comes with it...
2. using the Registry Editor, navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Inbox
3. Next, click on Inbox (make sure the Inbox is highlighted) and select Edit, New Key
4. Name the New Key as "Settings"
5. Click on "Settings" (make sure the Settings is highlighted) and select Edit, New String Value
6. On "Value name:", key in SMSNoSentMsg and in "Value data", key in 1
7. Soft reset your device and test it with one SMS, and you will notice that the SMS Sent bubble is being disabled

================================================== =============

Audible and Action Engine

- Using your computer or PPC, cruise on over the the Program Files section of your handheld. Next select the folders of Audible and Action Engine. Delete them.
- Next, go to the "\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\" Folder and delete the shortcuts to those programs.

================================================== =============

SPB Pocket Plus & Resco File Explorer

- SPB Pocket Plus and Resco File Explorer are both awesome programs. Both have plugins that can reside on the Today screen.
- both are EXTREME memory hogs tho, especially if you run both at the same time. unless you need to run the today screen plugins, i recommend you disable them in the Settings>Today>Items screen.

================================================== =============

Clearing cache to improve space

When in IE: Menu...Tools...Options. Then hit the "Memory" tab and the "Delete Files" button.

================================================== =============

Moving Notes to SD card (will no longer sync correctly)

- Notes/Menu/Options/Save to:/Storage Card.

================================================== =============

Unwanted keypress

-Mortsaverpe-2.0 (if put soft-power button while on phone and using BT headset, unit will come back on at end of call. If in holster this often results in you calling the person back and them eves dropping on you! I assume this program makes sure this doesn't happen!)

Remove Speedtest files
- If you're running a bunch of moblie speed tests, read this!
- Some using Sprite's Space Detective to see how and where my RAM is being used. I just found about 18 mspeed files in my guest profile in the \Windows directory which don't need to be there. Each of them were 600K, so deleting 18 of these got my \Windows Directory down from 75Mb to 65Mb.

VX6700 MP3 Ringtone From SD Card How-To

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is going to be a work in progress. By doing the below steps you take responsibility of damaging your phone in to your own hands and will not hold me or anyone else liable. I have successfully done this on my phone but have not had enough time to experiment thoroughly.

Requirements:
- SD Card Preloaded With MP3
- Windows Mobile/Pocket PC Registry Editor (Google "PHM RegEdit Download")

Steps:

1) Locate the full path of the ring tone you want to use on your SD card. You can do this either via your PC through ActiveSync Explore or via the Windows Mobile File Explorer. An example path would be "\Storage Card\My Music\File Name.mp3".

2) Launch your registry editor on the VX6700.

3) Navigate to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sounds"

4) From here you can choose what event you want to assign an MP3 to by selecting the next branch in the registry. An example is the "RingTone0" folder. This is for the standard incoming call ring tone.

5) Assuming you chose RingTone0, you will then need to create or modify a String Value (Edit > New String Value to create) with a value name of "Sound". So the full path would be "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sounds\RingTone0\So und" in our example.

6) Set the Value Data for the "Sound" to the full path you chose in Step 1. In this example it would be "\Storage Card\My Music\File Name.mp3" (without quotes).

7) Hit the OK button and hit Yes to any prompts to save this change.

Thats it. The change should take immediately with no reboot required. I have noticed if you go into your Phone > Options screen it may not let you out again unless you choose a ring tone located in your phone itself, so avoid that at all cost.

================================================== =============

Enabling network time synchronization

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting
change HiddenTimeSync Page to 0

After making the change then go into settings / phone / services / Time Synchronization / get settings and enable network synchronization.

================================================== =============

How to: change Voice Codec (VOCODER) from EVRC to 13k on xv6700

First dial ##778
Tap on "Edit"
Enter Unlock Code 000000
Tap on arrow to upper left hand of screen to reveal drop down menu where it says "Display"
Select "CDMA Settings"
Click and hold on the "EVRC Enabled" line under the Settings column
Select "Edit"
Switch to "Disabled"
Then press "ok"
Click and hold on the "Home Page" line under the Settings column
Select "Edit"
Switch to "Voice 13k"
Repeat for "Home Orig" and "Roam Orig"

I dont know of any problems with this yet, as I just did it, but again, do it at your own risk. I just know it made my e815 sound amazing and I want that kind of quality out of this phone too. Let me know if you have any other changes to this or if I did something wrong. And post if it worked for you!

This is great VZW E! Can we get this stickied?

Posted by: substring

Great list! Thanks VZW E! Do you know by any chance how to increase the volume of the ring tones? I cannot hear my phone ring a few times because the volume is low as compare to regular cell phone, and it is not adjustable.

Thanks.

Posted by: Alias

Wow....great info E. Just a side not......Mobile 5 OS allows data interupt without any modification. This works only in EVDO areas, but just wanted to be sure others knew. I understand your tweak involved both working at the same time, but many think with Mobile5 if you are in a data session and a call comes in it goes to voice mail, which is not the case.

The first link was broken at the download page. Then I logically went to the 2nd link. Oh, am I in for a big surprise? This FreewarePPC.com has some very nasty popups that won't go away!!! I have to use Task Manager to kill them.

Then I changed my wording to "download PHM RegEdit" and I got a different set of links to safer sites.

Hope this information can benefit someone.

wonderful stuff. has anybody figured how to get the clock to set the network time rather than messing with it by hand, on the 6700, that annoys me that it doesn't sync itseld.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting
change HiddenTimeSync Page to 0

Posted by: cryogenic

Here's a couple more...

Get rid of the delivery acknowledgement txt you receive after you send a text... (not the popup, but the actual text coming back through saying the msg was delivered)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\SMS
change "delivery ack" from 1 to 0. Now no more stupid delivery confirmation text msgs clogging up your inbox. Note that this sms is only received when you send an sms to another VZW user.

Change PIE's cache size instead of moving to miniSD (great if you don't have a card)
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Internet Settings\5.0\Cache\Content
Change "CacheLimit" to whatever you choose. I have mine set @ 2048 (2MB).. By default it's @ 14MB!?!? No wonder memory just seems to vanish at the drop of a hat.

Change softkeys on "Today" screen
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Today\keys\112 -- left
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Today\keys\113 -- right
You may not have a 113, but you can just make the 113 identical to 112 and change the "open" command. The value for "Default" controls what is displayed on the screen. For those curious, messaging is "tmail.exe".

Is there a way to assign a speed dial number to one of the softkeys? I can't for the live of me figure this one out. Thanks.

same thing here with that hack

Did you bother to go into settings / phone / services / Time Synchronization / get settings and turn it on??? lol. Then it works fine.

I have no setting labeled 'Time Synchronization' within settings/phone/services. Anyone else?

Are you sure you're using an XV6700?

I do not have this option either. Indeed, it is the first place I looked when I got the XV6700. The only service options I have are: Location Setting, Voice Privacy, Network Service, and TTY Mode.

To the person who said we have this option, do you have the Verizon or Sprint version of this phone? The XV is the Verizon version.

Posted by: TWong1200

Did you do the registry edit? I didn't have this either until after the edit.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting
change HiddenTimeSync Page to 0

If you select Phonesetting you should should see timesyncpage. that is where you change the value of 1 to 0.

Phonesetting has four categories underneath it, which are location, voice priv, network service, and tty mode...

Timesync page will be under the actual phonesetting page, it will not appear as a sub category...

oh ok I see how that regedit enables the sync menu under the phone settings. thanks works like a charm now.

Okay so this crashed my PIE...I just cleared the cache, history, and cookies through the program and it didnt work...what should I do?

Posted by: bigcalidave

It says right in there that it will crase PIE. lol. Undo the change. I have my temp files ONLY on my storage card, leaving the other two where they were. Works fine for me.

And to the people that haven't figured out the sync time thing yet, you have to do the reg edit first, then a menu box will magically appear that lets you do the settings for time sync. Look at the bottom of the scroll list.

And it says Verizon wireless, and XV6700 in my title bar thing, so yeah, thats what I have.

Posted by: Hilbe

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this...but you can change your notifications via the registry as well.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Notifications\{Vari ous Strings Here}\Wave is the value to change. If you look at the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Notifications\{Vari ous Strings Here}\Default value, you can tell what notification you're changing. For example, I have a Homer Simpson wave file in \Windows\Rings\Homer - Mail.wav. For the Wave value I put "\Windows\Rings\Homer - Mail" in the new text message notification. Note that the .WAV is not required.

It supports voice command if you buy MS Voice command. It does not support voice command out of the box, though. Would have been nice if they included it but it costs a fair bit of money so I guess they didn't want to make that investment or something.

Interesting, I was unaware it was a MS product. Thanks for the info Cryogenic. Z

Does the speed up hack (the one quoted below) work on WM5? You only mention WM2003.

1. Open your registry editor o_n your Pocket PC
2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\GDI\GLYPHCACHE\
3. Change the value of 'limit' from 8192 to 32768
4. Close registry editor and soft reset.

IS there a walk through anywhere on Registry Edits?

Ive particularly never done one myself, but im very familiar with computers.

Posted by: tuanutz

hey guys I had a question about doing the registry hack for this. I was able to do what was described by changing the Ringtone0 entry and putting the location of my mp3 i want the phone to use as the default incoming ringtone. I was just wondering what would I need to do if I wanted to assign different ringtones to my contacts? Would I create new entries such as Ringtone1, Ringtone2, etc....or would I need to edit something else....or is it even' possible...please let me know...thanks

Posted by: shrink57

Just a simple little hack (don't remember if it was mentioned here):

go the settings - system
Turn off error reporting.
That's all folks!

I did my first hack today on the VX6700. I downloaded Resco Explorer, which contains a registry editor tool. Once you upload RE into your device, you can open the registry editor, and you'll see a screen that pretty much looks like the File Explorer in Microsoft Windows. After that, all you need is to find the registry that you want to edit, and you edit it like a word processor. Good luck.

Posted by: TonyTurboII

yeah, I've since figured out how to do it, its quite self explanitory.

Posted by: cryogenic

PHM regedit works just as well as Resco and it's free. Now if you want the extra functionality that Resco comes with, great.. I'm not knocking it one bit but there's no reason to go out and shell out the money for it JUST for the registry editor.

Posted by: Armanius Maximu

Well, the Resco is free for a few days!

BTW, asides from the GLYPHCACHE hack, are there any other hacks out there that will speed up the VX6700? I also overclocked the device with XCPUscaler already. But I still feel like the Treo 700 opens and handles programs faster.

Posted by: crankerchick

for a speed boost...
-------------------
i don't recall seeing this one on here:

HKLM\System\StorageManager\FATFS
-click the "CacheSize" entry and change it to whatever your heart desires (power of 2 though...)

Not sure if the OS recognizes values over 2048 (2KB), but people seem to think it does.

Posted by: Eliteoomph

When I do the internet always on hack I don't recieve incoming calls. It goes straight to my voicemail. But I can dial out.... Any one else experience this?

Posted by: Eliteoomph

With dec checked it says it is currently at 8192 at default
? wouldn't 2048 be slower...

Posted by: sirdfw

I love this phone! Only one problem: I have tried the WiFi hack tha allows me to enable phone and WiFi. I have tried the hack to speed up the processor. I have installed Tweak2k and used it to make several changes. But, for some reason after each hack I am unable to email a picture as an attachment! I have to do a hard reset. Then I can send pictures. Once I re-install a hack...unable to email pictures. Help?

Good evening,
Apologies if this is in the wrong section. Will voice command work with bt or does that require a registry hack? Is it even possible then?

Thanks

Tom

Posted by: cryogenic

It's possible to get voice command working over BT with a registry hack and such but it's not perfect and has a few side effects. VC wasn't designed to work over BT because BT has an 8khz sample rate and VC was designed only to accept audio at a 16khz sample rate (same rate the mic uses).

Posted by: watrat

Thanks for the reply cryogenic..if not with vc is there another way to do voice dialing?

Tom

PS. Any idea where I could find that reg hack?

Is this suppose to work with EVDO? I have been unable to get this to work. When using the data network incoming calls are going directly to voice mail.

Any insight is appreciated.

I am also struggling with the TXT message alerts. I ran that hack and it still pops up message sent alerts.

there are 2 things that happen when sending a text message. One is the ALERT/NOTIFICATION that a message was sent, and the other is the delivery acknowledgement in the form of an actual text message that you receive ONLY when the recipient is a verizon customer as well. Make sure you are using the right hack for what you want to disable. Both are in this thread. Here's is another thread as well with the information outlined again:

so there is no hack for evdo?

i also double checked the hack for message notification and it is correct but i doesn't work. any advice

Quote:

As I'm sure you want an answer like right now, I'll do my best until someone else chimes in.

I don't use EVDO yet, so I'm speaking only from:
1: what I "know" should be the case
2: what I've gathered as result of using the search button

Your phone *should* ring while you are connected to EVDO. There is no "hack" to enable this. If a call comes in and the dataconnection is not active, the call can be answered it with no consequence. If data connection is active (downloading data like a file, webpage, email, or streaming), the call can still be answered but the download will stop. I don't know of an instance where the call would go straight to voicemail except: your data connection is NOT EVDO, but rather 1xRTT. In that case, since voice is also 1xRTT, data and voice cannot happen at the same time and the call *should* go to voicemail if the data connection is active.

Quote:

First, i would say you should create a new thread for each of these topics, you'll get more responses that way. This thread appears to be only for listing hacks, not troubleshooting problems with them. Outline exactly what you have done and what you want to accomplish so that we can see if you have errored somewhere or are not implementing the hack you want to implement. Considering you didn't know the difference between WiFi and EVDO, i'm going to make a broad assumption that you are new to this...

i think that's the connection between you're laptop and the phone. Not necessarily your d/l speed from the network.

That is what I thought. I am one that finds it very annoying. However, I don't know WHERE to go in the registry to get rid of it.

That is what I want.

Posted by: crankerchick

NullKeyBoard is an application that you run that will kill the keyboard. You can find it in a variety of places by just doing a websearch. Its free.

As a side note, you don't have to do any registry editting or application installing to "theoretically" stop the keyboard from popping up. Every time the cursor is positioned on a field to enter something, the input panel will pop up (keyboard, transcriber, letter recognizer, whatever you currently have enabled). If you simply start typing with the external keyboard, the input panel will go away and windows *should* remember this setting. The key is, you have to start typing with the ext keyboard WITHOUT tapping the arrow on the screen to hide the input panel when it pops up the first time. Basically, windows will remember your last input method, but not if you hide the input panel and then type on the ext keyboard. in that case, the keyboard will pop up the next time again.

This is straight from microsoft site. I have been doing this since I got the device and it works fine for me. I just have to remember to type with the keyboard to get the input panel to go away, instead of taping the arrow to hide it like i'm used to on my other PDAs that don't have external keyboards.

Select "CDMA Settings"
Click and hold on the "EVRC Enabled" line under the Settings column

what do the options other than "Voice 13k" in the drop down sound like?

i believe it is allocating more memory. there is a program to overclock your processor called xscale (something like that).

Posted by: Mr Pink57

It's called XCPUScaler, I use this program one of the few programs I have bought really. I dont use it all the time but mainly with a2dp and movie watching (sometimes). It allows you to set mhz to what percent load is on the CPU at the time. So if my processor is at 75% it will overclock to 524mhz, and if it's at 0% - 15% it goes down to 312mhz.

Hi,
I just got my VX6700 phone. I'd like the wi-fi and phone to work at the same time. I'm not sure what you mean when you say hit the 2 soft keys. Can somebody tell me more.

Below is what I'm planning on trying.

Thanks

Steps:

Posted by: PPCMD

Thats what you need to do.

On a side note I am able to do OBEX on my Powerbook G4 with the Verizon crap taken off. I chose to pair the BT as any device rather than PDA or phone on the MAC end and initiated the BT pairing from the MAC side. Worked for me.

The two softkeys are on the face of the phone. They have a dash "-" on them and are just above the green and red phone keys. Hold both down while pressing a stylus into the reset point on the base of the phone to initiate a hard reset. The phone will then ask you to confirm with a "Y" press of the slide-out keyboard before it actually erases all of the memory of the device.

In order to do so, go into your phone settings (either start>settings>phone or from the phone app, menu>options) and click on the services tab. There you should have Time Synchronization. Just click "Get Settings" and check the box to tell it to sync with the network automatically. (Note this has been posted several pages back but I figured I'd make it easier since it's being discussed again)

I do have 1 question though. I was trying to get GOOGLE MAPS onto my phone and it wouldn't load. I'm guessing it's because the phone doesnt have a midlet manager. Is this because I didnt' run Verizon's customization cabs or is it because the phone doesn't support java and j2me? Thanks in advance for your help.

Some problems with DUN...

I tried to enable DUN by hitting ##3328873 in the phone application. However, it just tries to dial a number. Has anyone else experienced this? Is this because i dont have verizon's customized cabs installed? Thanks

I have a question about the position of the screen while it's closed. Is there any way to permanently have it on landscape mode? I know there are ways to do it temporary but that doesn't fit my needs.

i tried the hack to unlock the phone it worked . I installed the regedit, magic button, and tcpmp. After making a call and opening a few programs i use magic button to close everything thats open but for some reason i get a little icon at the top that when i click and hold it gives me three options
close phone keep alive or hide when inactive, the main problem is that im getting stuck on the phone screen whether in recent calls or the keypad, i try to close it but i cant get back to the today screen at all without soft reseting i hope im explaining it well if anyone has the same problem r similar or a fix please share thanks

also seems that i cant lower the volume on my ringtones even if i lower the volume of the phone the ringtone still blasts full volume hmmm maybe i need to install somthing from the verizon extended rom?

Ok, this may have been covered before, so i apologize in advance. I have the XV6700, and have broadband service on the phone. If i were to set it up to be used as a USB modem, without actually getting that "service" from Verizon, how would they be able to tell that it was being used that way? I mean, when i use just my phone to get online, it dials #777, and when i use it as a modem, it dials #777 too..

The only box I can think of that you're talking about is the popup bubble at the top when the EV-DO connection is initiated. Your only choice in the matter is to do the always on hack.. (use the search function). You'll get that right after a soft reset or after the connection somehow gets disconnected.

My XV6700 Verizon is through my company. They do a wireless PUSH tech for the outlook stuff. We do not do any Physical Sync. If I want to download phm regedit whats the best way to do this. All I want to do is to be able to use this 6700 as a modem for my laptop and also use the hack to speed up the xv6700

I've seen registry modifications for the ringer volume, but I'm more of a vibrate guy ("beep me again"), so I haven't performed this tweak. I was wondering if that modification, or any other exists, to increase the speaker phone volume? I'm used to my nextel speaker phone, which was greatly louder. Verizon > nextel, and this phone is great. Just the inital speaker phone is weak!

Any advice would be appreciated! Keep up the great work guys!

Go to sounds and notifications, and turn off the selection under "connection established" or something like that. No registry hack needed. I did this and now when it connects to EVDO there's no bubble or anything, it "just works". I wouldn't recommend this choice unless you subscribe to an unlimited data plan.

Am I just retarded, I don't see a value 39 and when I add one it doesn't do jack. Anyone else able to change the font color ?

Change Start Menu Color

The registry Binary Value key that controls the font color on the start menu is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Color\39 and value for black is 00 00 00 00. Here are values for other colors: black = 00 00 00 00 red = FF 00 00 00 green = 00 FF 00 00 yellow = FF FF 00 00 blue = 00 00 FF 00 purple = FF 00 FF 00 White = FF FF FF 00

Hi sorceran,
What you need to do is add a new binary value. In your reg edit program, go into that registry link, do edit/new binary value, type in 39 in the Value Name, then in the value data, type in the value string you'd like for your color.

Hope this helps.

I got my 6700 yesterday and have been hacking away for 2 days now! Please forgive me for being dense! I did all the necessary tweaks to turn off the texting alerts but I am still getting the "Message Sent" one. Now what? And I was able to add the color purple in the color registry (font) but how do you get that change to show up on the phone?? I am tired, having been up since 11 PM last night and have to be at work at 1 AM tonight. I am going to give it a rest but if anyone has any suggestions I would be most grateful!!

Posted by: sirclown82

I have my two registry backup files here. they are clean install registry backups.

http://www.southernchristianlife.net/xv6700/hacks

this could help quickstart if you just got a new machine or just did a hard reset.

these have the major hacks included in both with the exception of anything that would use the storage card permanatly for stuff, example IE cache, history, and stuff like that.

Posted by: sirclown82

I have updated my site, and now has the ROM files and what they do.

Posted by: sirdfw

Is there a hack to increase the headset/speaker volume

I've heard it exist, but I've never seen it.

Posted by: binhle

if anyone has seen the hack for increasing the speaker volume please list it... i did the hack to improve sound quality and it helped a lot but I would still like to increase volume (as its the only gripe i have with the phone)

Posted by: sirclown82

i could use that too.

The ROM update is now mirrored on my site listed below. Its a whole lot faster than the starcom page is.

http://www.howardforums.com/showpos...63&postcount=17

I posted this yesterday. I need to actually turn my sounds DOWN. LOL I was using the phone without the headset today and it was too loud. Woot!

Posted by: Kelita

Whoops, not sure if that helps the *speaker* volume, but mine seems to be pretty good. I don't know which one of the tweaks fixes that. May help if I read before getting all excited. LOL

Posted by: binhle

i could care less about the external speaker volume.....i want the speaker on the phone that you put your ear up to louder....whats the hack for that?

Posted by: marilene

have memorized the hacks so I haven't been to the file for quite some time. Please accept my sincerest apologies.

OK...

Using a Registry Editor navigate to the following location...

HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\

Underneath this category you will find the following sub-categories...

\InCall
\Ring

You can modify the 'InitVol' key to increase the sound output.

Posted by: sirclown82

thanks for the volume settings.

Posted by: lawman0210

Credit to Kelita,

I only increased the Incall Init volume to (5) It is plenty loud now. This is confirmed

This is a volume hack for the phone it worked for me mybe it will work for you. anyway here it is. \HKCurrentUser\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\

Posted by: lawman0210

I turned mine up to 8

How about a speaker phone hack and a way to play some games?

Man so much to do just to get my phone working they way i want it to. I dont want to damage my phone doing this stuff since i have never done a registry edit b4

Posted by: Lance Fortune

Thanks for the volume registry hack. It seems to help with calls. But I still can't hear the other person when I record phone calls with VITO AudioNotes. I cranked the In Call Init Vol up to 8, but the other person is still very faint. Any ideas?

Posted by: sirdfw

I did the registry hack but still have low volume on calls...any ideas besides a hearing aide???

Posted by: Lordshadowz

Well I did the hacks and everything is extremely loud.. Problem is, everytime I press the screen the sounds get distorted. For instance the phone was just ringing, I held my finger on the ignore button and the ringing became all distorted. I was playing a game called snails and everytime I put the stylus to the screen to do something the background music becomes distorted. The sounds return to normal once I let up off of the screen. Anyone else experience this ?

Posted by: Lordshadowz

Well I figured it out after doing some tests. Aparently when I have the device overclocked its giving me the sound distortions. I wonder if it also has to do with the fact that I enhanced the volume using the registry sound hacks. I will have to mess with them later to see if I can get it to stop.

Does Anyone know how to sort differant email addresses that you receive in wireless sync into differant folders. like if i have a gmail email coming in, have it go into a gmail folder, and a bellsouth email go into a bellsouth folder?

I just got the XV6700 yesterday and I was trying to do the internet always on edit, but when i go into regedit to change "connectionGUID" and "DestID", the values seem to be too long to enter. Everything else has been altered, but i have no idea how to enter in the rest of the values: I think it only lets me enter in up to:{8956986C-8ABE-ECBF-D48F-57F7D...., then it stops.

"ConnectionGUID"="{8956986C-8ABE-ECBF-D48F-57F7DD6A7E6A}"
"DestId"="***079757F-9357-4000-8305-9CA6B9B6CAEC}"

Please help!

that hack doesnt work with vzw's version of the 6700. I would imagine it's got something to do with the sprint rom. If you want the internet always on, you can go to the wireless sync menu and enable push and that will keep your connection always on.

Posted by: cryogenic

you can still do the always-on hack... on mine, for example it's under the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A3 8-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\Connections\Data Network Connect

then change AlwaysOn to "1" instead of "0". You should not have to add any keys or strings at all, everything should already be present.

Posted by: Dromidas

The volume increase registry setting apparantly doesn't work with bluetooth headsets.. either that or the new ROM doesn't work the same way as the old..
Anyone used the volume change with the new ROM or have tried it with a BT headset? I changed it up to 8 and noticed no difference.. dunno why

Posted by: Gervin

Is there hack to turn off the PASSWORD/LOCK feature once you install the ROM update (which forces it on)???

I tried fooling around with these registry entries with no luck.

HKLM\comm\security\LASSD\LAP_PW
HKLM\comm\Security\Policy\listener\1
HKLM\OCntrol Panel\Admin Passsword

Can someone who has NOT upgraded to the new ROM yet, please post or PMAIL me all the settings/entries under these registry folders please. I'd love to be able to compair pre-ROMupgrade to post-ROM-upgrade, as that should tell me what I need to change.

Thanks!!!

Is there anyway in the i can remove the txt message delivery notice as mentioned for the 6700 as a way on a 6600? I have messed with it abit in the reg but i cant remove it.

IGNORE my last message about registry.
The lock function was a problem with global policies as pushed by my Exchange server.

Posted by: drew01182

I tried modifying the registry values for the Temporary Internet Files and it seems there is a character limit for the string. I'm using RegeditCE. Has anyone else run into this?

Posted by: RJ_TM

I've made following changes to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\
Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\User Agent \
Change the default value from "Mozilla/2.0" to "Mozilla/4.0".
Change the "Version" value from "MSIE 3.02" to "MSIE 6.0".
Change the "Platform" value from "Windows CE" to "Windows NT 5.1".
Some web sites may just compare the user agent string, but if this is not enough, browse to the Post Platform\ sub key and delete the "240x320" value that specifies screen size.
Still can't reach "https://mail.langley.af.mil" any suggestions?

Posted by: Lordshadowz

A few more questions I cannot find answers to. If I missed a thread where this was discussed please forgive me. I also could not find the answer in the manual.

How do you get Pocket IE to download things to the storage card instead of Internal RAM ? I cannot find any options in Pocket IE and the manual doesn't say anything about how to do this.

When I go to a website, lets use www.break.com, and I attempt to stream a movie clip, if I choose WMP nothing happens. WMP doesn't load. If I choose Macromedia flash player, it then says you do not have a flash player installed. the thing is I DO have flash player 7 installed. And break.com isn't the only site that is doing this. Is there any fix for this ? I don't understand how its not seeing Flash player when its installed and installed to ram no less. On one site there was .3gp video clips and it kept giving me errors that WMP cannot play the file because its not supported. WMP has no problems streaming audio from websites.. It seems videos are the problem but I don't get why.

Thank you in advance,
Billy

Has anyone tried the A2DP hack available from xda-developers.com to get wireless stereo bluetooth audio on the 6700? I'm thinking of giving it a shot, but I wanted to see if there are any success stories out there yet:

A2DP Bluetooth Profile: How do you get this t work...
I havelooked around and still have not found how to do it on the XV6700..
Please give me a link or directions on how this works.

Thanks!

Posted by: alex13182

Don't do that! It's for Tornado and there are conflicts with Apache (PPC/XV-6700). I have worked with PDA's for a while now(love my job :-)) and it's a little to early to try that. What's happening is that: you loose the original Microsoft stack and new one is not an abled. There is a way, but some code modifications are needed. After uninstall some other issues will come up.

Anyway to turn on speakersphone before you dial? Right now, my menu has it greyed out until I actually dial a number.

The easiest way of all is to download total commander (google it) and then when you run it, just type "Extended_ROM" in the address bar in the program and it'll let you see the extended rom and run the cabs from it. Works great.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\GDI\GLYPHCACHE\ code did but ill leave it for now. i also deleted the 3 things i had in my Windows/Startup file. and its has helped out.

I'm close, I can smell it. I hate the sounds this phone comes with for reminders. What are we Doctors?!?! Anyway, this is what I got, can anyone figure out what went wrong?
I took a song of mine, cut it and made it 10 second reminder ring tone in wave format (also made one in .wma)
Now I want to get rid of "Notify" and make this ringtone play instead for my reminders, my song of choice... Slayer - Raining Blood. Gets your attention.
Ok I go into PHM Reg editor HKEY_CURRENT _USER > CONTROLPANEL > NOTIFICATIONS > 15F11F90-8A5F-454c- blah blah anyway it's the second from the top. I click on WAVE, i take off "Notify" and put in "\my documents\Raining Blood.wav" nothing happens... i even tried it without the ".wav'
Anyone see what i did wrong?

Two things:

1) Does anyone have a summary of what all the items in the EXTENDED ROM folder do?

2) Does anyone have an exteded list of hacks that use codes entered in the phone dialer (like accessing and unlocking BT-DUN, etc...?)

I had been having a prob where ActiveSync would turn on by it self overnight or after a few hours on its own. Found this and thought i would post it here since i dont think im the only one with this prob.

ActiveSync 4.0 turns on automatically/Processor stuck at 624MHz ******
There were several posts indicating ActiveSync turns on by itself when the Axim is not cradled and eventually drains the battery. It never happens to me. Circumvention provided by Invid:

Disabling automatic syncing (and activesync startup) did. The new activesync is a dog, even worse than it was on WM2003SE and makes my x50v almost useless while running. I will list the steps to disable it. Note that you will still be able to sync, but AS will no longer start up on it's own.

1) Start up AS on your x50.
2) Tap the menu tab/soft key and tap "Add Server Source"
3) Configure a server source with a dummy IP address, user id, password and domain name; these do not have to be real
4) Once configured you should have another sync source show up on your main AS screen...continue on.
5) Tap the menu soft key again and you should see that the sync schedule option is no longer greyed out.
6) Change your schedule from a timed automatic start of AS to manual under both fields
7) If you try to sync now, AS will try to contact your imaginary exchange server and that will take forever until it times out, so you can now delete the exchange server from your list of sync sources. Your changes to the sync schedule will remain and will survive soft resets too.

If you have a switcher app running (like vbar) you will find that when you close AS it will now stay closed and you should see a corresponding increase in speed.

Post some feedback and let others know if this worked for you. I am not really sure if this is what sped up my x50v but I know that it no longer slows down to a craw on a regular 5 minute schedule and AS only starts when in the cradle or when I start it for BT syncing."

This is for the ones that have tried the Disable the SMS Sent notification and no Success. The Difference from the one they have in this Forum is that they say use the New String Value that is WRONG. Use the DWORD Value. and it will work.

If you're tired of the "Message Sent" notification after sending an SMS/text message, you can disable them:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings\SMSNoSentMs g = 1 (DWORD decimal)
And to re-enable:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings\SMSNoSentMs g = 0 (DWORD decimal)
Please note that the 'Settings' key may not exist in your device, and thus may have to be created first.

Ok i know this is a dumb question but how do you hard reset the xv6700. I pressed the two dashes and stuff and nothing happened. Also what is a soft reset.

I did most of the hacks but I dont know how to reset the phone

Posted by: Gervin

There is a program called CLEAR MEMORY in the main Program folder. Use that to wipe the device. You can also install the firmware upgrade which will wipe it for you.

Posted by: jaydubb4472

I also tend to call people by mistake since my holster is tight ont he phone. Is there a way to lock my buttons or decrease their sensitivity???

Posted by: Jakaroe808

Hello.. xv6700ers.. I have recently convinced my step dad to pick up a xv6700 after he needed an upgrade from his old Kyocera with dated palm OS. I have a Wizard as you can see and thought I would be able to help him with every obstacle he may encounter as he attempts to learn WM5. I have however run into something I can not seem to find much info on. His bluetooth turns its self off when sleeping. I have searched Hofo, PDAPhonehome, and XDA and can not find a solution. Any suggestions?

Well onces up get the new software upgrade rom. you will have an option to lock the keys. regarding the reset. if you just want to reset it incase it froze use the softreset which is the litle hole by the mic which you poke with your stylus or anything that fits. or if youwant to reset to factory then do a hard reset or ues the clear memory program in your phone.

You need to push the reset button (little hole at bottom left corner) while you pressed the two dashed. This had to done at the same time.

Wont this restore my phone to factory default and erase all the registry changes i previously made if i click Yes?

Yes it would set it back to Factory. Like the first day that you took it out of the VZW box.

Man i did the changes to the registry for call volume and now when i am dialing out and i press the buttons its extremely loud. Which part of the hack is for that function

Posted by: Jakaroe808

anyone have any info on the Bluetooth turning its self off?

Posted by: drrjv

Bluetooth works variably on my phone. Really not even at 'beta' functionality.

Should have told your Stepdad to get a Treo 600P.

Posted by: Jakaroe808

Well I thought the Apache would have been a lot like the Wizard but I guess I was wrong. He wanted to make the jump to WM so maybe a 700w would have been a good move even though he thought he would have a problem with those little qwerty keys.

Edit.. How about those Eagles picking up Stallworth.. Gotta love that move.

My XV6700 seems to run slower since I put in a 2gig card, should that cuase the OS to slow. I have 17.79mb storage and 32.85 program free after a fresh reboot is that to low.

Posted by: Cubulco20

Try a soft reset or cleaing out your running programs. I have a Sandisk 2gig ultra 2 and it runs great. with or without it runs the same. But i always make sure i have whatever program i dont used Not running.

Do you have around the same memory usage.
I have 17.79mb storage and 32.85 program free after a fresh reboot.

Doesnt seem bad. Just Make sure to clean out all your inboxs. And you should search around here about deleting some of the files in your Windows/startup File. I Deleted the 3 things in there. since dont need them but check for your self. That should help out.

Has anyone come across a way to change the way the phone dialer looks? I saw a demonstration that bill gates used to preview WM5 and it had a halo/xbox theme for the phone dialer (was really cool looking). Very cool skins for phone dialing.
Though the ones with Smart-dial don't work too great yet (it's beta).
All the others work sweet. And with that cab file, you can also create your own skins.

This guy says that he got the GPS to navigate with streets & trips through the phones gps using an external to "jumpstart" the readings.

Seems easy enough to do. Anyone try this yet? Looks like this was posted on 04/25/06, but this is the first I have herd of anyone getting this close to fitting the last bit of genius into this genius phone.

Sorry about the lack of cool signature.

He later posted that that wasn't actually real gps data from the phone. I was excited for a while.

Pointless. Sounds like it doesn't work... and if it does, even with a jumpstart, what's the point? I'd have to carry my GPS receiver around anyhow.

Don't bother uninstalling. It's easy to fast install them from Active Sync anyhow.
As for contacts... sync with OUTLOOK and save them that way. Very easy.

That's my problem I can not figure out how too sinc contacts to outlook. Can outlook express sink also.

When attempting to use my 6700 as a modem I get the following message:

"Error Code:1010 - Data service is not available when device is in tethered and Bluetooth Dial Up Networking mode"
