I had a similar problem where my phone would automatically answer sometimes on speakerphone. I could not find any solution to this except to hard reset. the only downside to that was having to redo everything on the phone. i've noticed that some software does not work well with others which could be causing your problem. god luck!

My purpose in unbranding phone was to be able to use my home wi-fi to surf the web and to also sync my phone to my PC...both without Verizon tracking and charging me.
Will what I did work? Or does setting up that modem connection somehow allow Verizon to charge me for moving data around again?
I'm new to this, so would appreciate any help you can offer.

Umm, verizon can not track you using wifi, wifi is unchargeable regardless of the carrier. You will however be charged for your internet usage (so best to have a plan) and you will be charged for MMS messages unless you have a plan for that as well. All the unbranding does is eliminate some of the junkware that is loaded on the phone. This can be further enhanced in terms of speed and memory use by running one of the unofficial AKU's (I run sarinour's AKU 3.5)

Why would you think that you would get charged for WIFI?

I appreciate your reply. To answer your question, when I first purchased the phone, I was using my home wireless to go on the internet and was also syncing phone to my computer. I got a huge bill after that and was surprised....when I called Verizon they said that any data moved/loaded on phone, including syncing or being on web even if I'm using my wireless and not their network, is trackable and charged to my account. I have text msg package to include MMS so that is covered. I don't currently have a monthly data plan though. So that's why I was wondering if Verizon could track my web usage or when I move data between my phone and computer.

In the forums, simply search Audio Gateway, and Bluetooth Stack

I did a few of the hacks such as the speed up hack, keyboeard leds, DUN. Every so often the status LED blinks orange as if to notify me of a missed call or a reminder but there is nothing there. I am forced to do a soft reset to fix it. Any suggestions?

I have a XV6700 and I would like to use it as a modem but Verizon is telling me that my phone isn't compatible w/ their software. Is there another way?

If this question has already been answered I apologize, I'm new at this

Update to AKU 3.5 (see ppcgeeks.com in the apache forum). Use internet connection sharing.

As a network engineer, I have to say the guy is a troll...

I've been encountering this one problem with my phone - whenever I soft reset, or the phone dies from low battery, certain settings do not get saved. For instance, I have to tell it to switch from keyboard to transcriber, and I get the "first time using transcriber" help thingy. How do I stop this?

Posted by: snoop1979

aku 3.5 from ppcgeeks is the best

Posted by: jdorsey98

i recently upgraded to vista, downloaded and installed modem drivers for it. cdma modem has been installed, but cdma dialer still doesn't reconize modem nor does my computers plug and play. can anyone help me out with this problem

Posted by: Asmodeus6

Stupid question, is there a way to make sure I'm not using Verizon to access to the internet and only wifi? But still be able to send/recieve picture and video messaging?

I had them put the data block on until I got a difinitive answer.
I just got it yesterday, so I'm a newb. So far I like it, but I have no intention of using this for business type stuff. Its simply a toy, and just so happens to be powerful enough to run tuning software in pocket form for my car.

It absolutely sucks as a "phone" tho. Both in volume and ease of use.
The lack of memory until I get an adapter for my micro SD card sucks. I haven't done any hacks yet. But I imagine I'll get braver after I've used it for a while.

Posted by: aelb771

I was told yesterday that there is no way to add a data block because of some "new system" that they switched to. Does anyone know if there is a way I can manually block my phone from connecting to the verizon internet?

Thanks

I'm not absolutely positive on this, I'm kinda a newb myself, but if you go to settings - connections tab - connections - Under MyISP, click Manage existing connections - Modem tab - tap and hold on the connection and choose delete from the drop-down menu, that should make it so your device doesn't have any way to connect to the data network.
There might be a registry hack for this also.

Posted by: OffUrRcker

Create a "My Work" Connection in settings/connections/connections or whatever,
call it MMS,
dial: #777,
username: your10digit@vzw3g.com
password: vzw

Then go to settings in arcsoft and choose your profile, and at the bottom it asks what to connect with, choose "My Work Network." Nothing else automatically connects with the work network, so as long as you disconnect afterwards, you should be good. Delete the connection from Verizon or My ISP depending on what carrier customization cabs you've run.

Extremely Helpful! Thank You!!

Thanks for the info guys. I had one other question. I've noticed that when someone calls me it takes about 2 full rings (on their end) before my phone starts to ring. This is annoying because people often hang up before I can answer. Is this normal? If so, is there anyway to fix it? I tried calling other cell phones and they start ringing after only one ring.

Thanks a lot!!

Check out this post

Posted by: aelb771

Thank you, that made a big difference!

There's still an annoying delay between when the phone wakes up, and when it actually starts to ring. From what I got from the other threads, no one has been able to fix that.

The smart CS rep just removes National Access from the feature menu. That is in fact the equivalent of the data block. New system or not. I assure you it works as I have it done on my account right now.

I'm really tired of it tho. I want my MMS back real bad.

I will try as mentioned in the post by OffUrRckr

I thought something like this might work as I tried to frag the connections by screwing up all the info.

Thank you for confirming that. I really love this thing. I haven't had any problems with it at all (as I've seen mentioned) It works really well.

Apache_VZW_MMS

I'm trying to figure out how to get the voice speeddial back on, I did the WM6.0 update on it, anyone know what CAB this is if its in the Extended ROM?

I've read through this thread and a couple more on other websites but I haven't seen a clear answer to this question. Is there a way to set up the internet so you would have to put a password in when your phone tried to access it? I have it set up like that on my Q but I was thinking about switching over to my XV6700 for a little while. I want this so that I can receive picture messages but not access any other data since I have Wifi at school and at home. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Posted by: OffUrRcker

Best Hack, Tip, or Trick you can get for the XV6700, guaranteed to extend it's usefulness for at least another couple of months. Do the PPCGeeks WM6 kitchen update. Your phone will be leaps and bounds faster, more compatible with newer software, and prettier. :]

I have upgraded my 6700 to WM6 and I've done all the hacks I thought were necessary for the functionality I need.

WHEN MY PHONE RINGS:
FIRST: I try to answer through my BT headset. I can hear it ringing in the earpiece but about 80% of the time it doesn't answer. The other 20% when it does answer there's a considerable lag time from the time I press till the time I can communicate with the caller.

80% OF THE TIME WHEN IT DOESN'T ANSWER:
I attempt to answer by simply pressing the ANSWER button on the screen and nothing happens as the call goes right to voicemail.

THE 20% IT DOES ANSWER, it goes directly to speaker phone while the headset option is grayed out. That forces me to talk on the handset itself.
IN ADDITION- The incoming call screen stays up while Im talking and when I end the call it comes up as a missed call.

I'm thinking it could have something to do with the Motorola BT ear piece.

Anyone else having this issue or any suggestions about debugging??

i tried the reset on the xv8600 twice, but it still says "Verizon Wireless" when the phone boots and on the today screen and I am getting EVDO. Has anyone gotten it to work on the 6800?

ADDED: also the verizon wireless wasn't displayed on the today screen until after I pressed the reset button when it did the 3 second countdown, and I know I reset it right as it the timer displayed.

Ok, it will show a verizon splash screen unless you change it. Unbranding doesn't mean removing the logo, it simply means not allowing all the specific crap in the extended rom from loading.

After you do a complete wipe and it boots and you see the loading in 3 seconds screen, hit the soft reset again and it will prevent all the stuff from loading. (You will get the verizon splash screen regardless)

Hey people,
just picked er up last week & am wondering if anyone has a new (2008), updated or addition(s) to the tips, tricks & hacks for this???
Much of this thread (only four 08' entries) was written before the common update allowed wifi, phone while surfing, etc.

Thanks, in advance for any input

Anyone know WHERE I need to place mp3's in order to assign as ALERTS?
Can I use mp3s ? Do they need to be under a specific size?
Are they only so many which can be assigned?
I found them (like "notify") in the WINDOWS folder.....

Thanx, in advance

Posted by: OrganHero

Place them in \Windows\Rings

Posted by: Vfrpilot

I found they need to be in .wav format??

Posted by: micsanmo

[B]can any one pls give me the tips on how to hack verizon wireless Aircard for free browing.....

Posted by: OrganHero

There is no way for "free browsing" don't be rediculous. You are limited to 5gigs of browsing a month and that's it.

Hate to bring this back up again but I have questions about this one
Quote:

Now for what you do to solve your problem with connecting on accident to EVDO
1) go to START>Setting>Connections>Connections>Manage Existing Connections>
2) push and hold on top of data network until the option delete pops up
3) delete it NO MORE EVDO

Does this mean that my phone will NEVER connect via verizons internet servers again? I don't have a data plan and I did this in hopes that it won't connect (sometimes it does it on accident), so that I won't get billed.

Thanks,
Shawn

Yes. Also if you ever talk to a rep they will give you all kinds of non-sense, "Wi-Fi ussage is billed" "You have to have a data plan to run this phone". The list goes on. Once that is deleted your phone can no longer dial the #777 Verizon Data line. You won't be able to do Picture Messages though. Right now I'm trying to use a program to make Picture messages go trough another server, I saw another guy that got it. Once I'm done I'll post it up. Good luck.

You can send pictures to a phone via email by sending it though the email -> MMS gateway. For Verizon it is <10-digits>@vzwpix.com.
