2125 Clock Set automatically?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Is there anyway to have the 2125 set its clock automatically like almost every other GSM phone does??

I travel between timezones a bit and I'd love to have the time auto-update when I get off the plane.

Was looking for the same thing...I've looked thru every menu.

AFAIK the phone will not auto update time from the GSM network, only through Active Sync.

Otherwise you can use a third party app like this or this or this instead.

Great post.

Try this forum as well, I want to say I came accross a post that said it could be done with a .reg tweak but I might be wrong.

I would pay a bounty for integrated network time. I cant stand syncing for it cause alot of times my exchange server's clock is just WRONG. Drives me bannanas.

Palm Treo 700w has a special utility to auto-sync with GSM network time. However it had some glitches with DST switching on or off.

On 8125, you can setup your home time zone as well as a visiting time zone. You can easily switch over without re-setting your clock and mess up your appointments. Does 2125 have such thing?

Nope, smartphones don't have the Home/Visitor time zones.

I'm not sure but I think you may be right. When I upgraded an SMT5600 to WM5 (before I killed it) I think the time did get auto-updated with the Cingular towers as soon as the phone figured out that 310410 was my Home (as in not roaming) network, which took a long time. So maybe the phone's radio supports time auto-update but it's burried somewhere on the Registry.

anyone using the recently released firmware know if maybe it adds time auto update?

It's irritating that my "smartphone" is dumber in this aspect than my wife's RAZR

Nope. It is the same.

It is not entirely the Microsoft's fault. Windows Mobile, like your desktop PC, relys heavily on a internal clock that uses UTC time, that is the clock itself should never change regardless where you're. It depends on your time zone settings to display the correct local time. This way, if you setup an appointment in 9:00 AM New York, it will automatically show up as 6:00 AM West coast if you set your time zone to west coast. Same is true for timestamps for files and others. This is correct way to handle time related tasks. Otherwise, everything setup in your phone will be meaningless.

Now in order to use Network time, it will also have to get local time zone settings from Network signal which I don't think currently exist.

Non-Smartphones don't have to worry about any of these. The only usage of the clock is just to tell user what local time it is.

Guess I never thought of it that way. Pocket Outlook would get a little confused.

There were rumors of a disabled auto-updater. Everyone who flashed to the iMate SP5 ROMs said that there is still no auto-update. Your best bet is to just occasionally do an ActiveSync. Your Windows machine syncs with NTP servers and hence your phone would be correct.

Kinda lame considering my old Motorola V400 had time auto-update.
