2125 and Activesync - won't sync over air - anyone??

Help me forum dwellers!
I have a 2125 with ActiveSync 4.1.0.
I setup Activesync on the PC when I got the phone, and set Email, Calendar, and Tasks to sync with the Exchange Server. I then set the Favorites and Contacts to sync with the PC.
The Exchange server settings I used were the same from my old mpx220.
Username - jsmith
password - ****
server - mail.domain.com
domain - domain
When I connect to the PC via USB everything syncs just fine. When I try and connect over the air, it doesn't work, says "Waiting for Network".
A coworker has a 2125 as well, but doesn't use the ActiveSync software on her PC, just set up the phone itself to sync with the server, and it works fine for her, with the same setting formats I'm using.
Any ideas? Can the phone just not work right if I have it set to sync with the server and the PC? Will it not just realize over the air that the server is available but the PC is not?

On your desktop, When you goto mail.yourdomain.com/exchange do you get a certificate dialog box?
If so, you have an unsigned cert that needs to be installed on the phone. When that box comes up, press "view certificate" then save the cert to your computer. Get that cert on your phone (activesync or storage card) then use the file manager on the phone to find the cert, click on it and then install it on the phone. That should do the trick.
Also double check with your IT dept to ensure everything is setup correctly on their end.

No...it's a signed cert from Verisign.
I just set it up for Server only and connected via USB it works fine...but connected over air it keeps saying "waiting for network"....
I even downloaded a ping app just be to sure it was resolving the External IP for the server correctly and that looks good.
arghhh....

Can anybody else in your company successfully sync over the air?
I know we had to patch our exchange server and (I think) turn on the wireless sync feature on the server - that may be an issue.
Also-
Make sure you have the address correct IE it could be: server - mail.domain.com/exchange or something like that.
Just throwing that out there.....
Good luck.

OK, I got it working...very weird.
Here's what I did:
1. compared mine to my coworkers
2. The only difference I found was that in IE, under tools, options, connections. Theirs was set to connect to the WAP network, mine was set to connect to "the internet". both of us had the "automatically detect settings" unchecked.
3. I set mine to connect to WAP
It synced fine after that.
Problem then was that I couldn't get to any websites. We set both of ours to "automatically detect settings" and left it to "connect to WAP" and now both works.
Can anyone confirm what in the world is the point? Should the "automatically detect network" be checked? Should it say connect to WAP?
My biggest concern is that:
A) I'm on the EDGE network
B) I'm not getting charged something besides the standard 10MB data plan
The "WAP network" seems to point to something called Media Net in the settings, connections, so that's why I ask.

Update again:
OK, I figured I'd give activesync on the PC one more shot, since I figure that the stupid thing should be able to figure out that when I'm connected via PC, sync to my exchange server through the USB proxy, and when disconnected sync over the air.
No go....I didn't change anything on the phone, but I uninstalled and reinstalled AS4.1 on the PC, then connected the phone.
Set up the relationship, etc, and now the thing syncs fine across USB but won't sync over the air again.
This is ridiculous. Maybe I should abandon hope and just not sync my email/etc through AS4.1 on my PC and just use it only for a file explorer.

And again,
If I repeat the steps in POST #5 and reboot the phone i can sync again over cingular's network.
But as soon as I connect it to my PC and setup a sync through AS it will ONLY sync through the USB cable at that point.
Any help?

one more piece of the puzzle.
If I connect to the PC via USB and tell AS4.1 to establish a "guest connection" to the phone...then go into activesync on the phone it displays "waiting for network", and won't sync until I unplug from the PC.
So it's like I can either have it sync via the USB proxy OR over the air, but not both.

Well i dunno how much help i could offer cuz you said it was working fine with your 220 (i guess) but now with WM5 you're having problems. I have a 220 and it connects and syncs but i don't know why it wont for ya. Umm I set up my first Exchange 2003 and installed SP2 on it.
Since you have WM5 device you couldn't just use "push" mail instead (i guess that might not work either if you can manually sync) ?
Sorry, i can't think of anything else that would stop it from working.
