i want to buy an infrared port to connect my nokia to the pc and i want to know how can i tell if it is compatible without testing it?

compatible to the phone? it should say in the owners manual.
as for the computer, that depends on which irda you get, but most will work,

i had a nokia 6100 and i've tried to send some files on it from my friends laptop and it did't work, but it now works on my 6600 and my 6230..but i don't know the caracteristics of the laptop's infrared port so that i could find one like that to connect to my pc through USB...
