I haven't had a chance to try it yet, but was able to download and install this. I didn't see it posted earlier. It's a turn by turn navigation with voice and is free until 1/1/2010.

I've been using it for well over 4 months now and it's very useful. I'm not a fan of the menu and interface -- the task of entering the destination is a bit tedious. EVERY time you have to select the country, select the province/state, enter the city or postal code then enter the address.

You can't just enter the address, city, prov/state into one text field like google maps. So if you're in the car and need quick directions... it's kind of tedious.. and not quick at all... oh and you can't use suretype, only multi-tap.

That being said, once you set that up, the directions and display is great. It has a large library of voices, which you can only have one on your phone at a time -- if you want to change voices, you have to download the new voice, even if you've downloaded it once before.

The arrows and distances are displayed clearly on the screen (no matter the size) and I'm not 100% sure about this, but I THINK the menu and display changes when it gets later in the day. For example, during the day, the menu and direction display has a white background and black arrows/text, but when it gets late (i.e. 6pm or possibly later), the menu and directions automatically change to a black background with green arrows/text. I didn't find any options to change colours or control times with this feature, and I didn't use the program long enough to notice any consistencies with it (ie. switching colours at a specific time all the time), although it seemed to be a smart idea. I assume it based on a time setting, rather than light detection, but couldn't find any settings to change it.

Overall, I would say it's slightly better than BB Maps that comes with the blackberry, but only if you're using it while driving because you don't have to concentrate on a tiny dot on a map, and there is audio prompts.

Great! Thank you very much for the in depth review. I think I may try it, making a distance trip tomorrow and was thinking it may be a good time to try it. Thanks again.

This new FREE app, vlingo, rocks!!! You can basically control most of your BB by voice commands. I've been playing around with it for the past few days and it's a godsend! I'm glad it's free, I just hope the company doesn't get greedy and start charging for it, although they probably will. Anyhow here are the links :

Go to Options > About and get the OS version on your BB (probably 4.1 or 4.2) and then check apps for compatibility with that version.

Thanks dude .... is 4.10.194,

what the name of the software to used if I want to add MP3 and Pictures to my 8700? thanks

Posted by: Sovak75

I don't have a BB that old so let me make sure that we are on the same page. That OS does not support viewing pics and playing music? If so I have no idea, hopefully someone else here does. I'm sure there is something ;-)

If you just mean copying the music and images to the BB you may be able to do that with Windows. When the PP is plugged in do you get an extra drive letter in My Computer? If so you should be able to just drag and drop the media to the appropriate folders.

Will the Nav4All work with a Verizon Curve? Thought they did something to prevent 3rd Party Apps. I may be wrong, it won't be the last time. Thanks.

No it wont. You can install all the third party aps you want but they don't have access to the GPS chip.

go to m.google.com/maps using your blackberry browser and install from the link. Easy as pie

OR

go to www.google.com/gmm on your computer, enter your cell phone number and click the "Send link to my phone" button.

tried both...the first one gives me "could not locate remote server" error. and when i go to the link for the phone number thing... it always tells me that my phone number is invalid.

so no.. its not easy as pie.

Posted by: adamm22

are you putting your full phone number, including area code, as per the example in the text box?

Do you have a data plan on your phone? Maybe that's why you're getting the "could not locate remote server" error. Can you access other sites, like www.google.com ?

on a totally separate note: does anyone know of an ebay app for blackberry (free preferably)? I did a bit of searching and found a lot of reference to a company named Abidia who made an ebay app for BB, but their site was down... looks like abandonware... Abidia Wireless for Blackberry (not free either)
Abidia Homepage: www.abidia.com -- site is down

I also found one from Handmark... eBay Wireless for Blackberry, but it's not free... don't really want to spend $20

This looks to be the same as the software Verizon offers throng Get It Now for a monthly fee. It's junk and too basic. Don't waste your time

Posted by: adamm22

thanks for the warning...

I'm also convinced (because of the similarity in names) that Handmark bought out Abida's ebay apps and made it their own.

I don't know if this has been posted already but I did a search and it didn't come up. (I wasn't going to manually read through all 16 pages lol)

I found this neat app, if you like astronomy or just gazing at the night sky, this is a good little app that is also free! It will show the constellations in the sky based on your geographic position. And it's absolutely free!

Hello,
Blackberry newbie here, so, I'm not sure if this is the proper forum to post this (if it isn't I apologize). I was wondering if anyone has seen a free app to sync Blackberry 8330 to Thunderbird? I after doing searches, I've read about an app called Funambol (http://www.funambol.com/), but I've searched HowardForums and have not really seen anything about it in terms of Blackberry. It seems like more of an app to bring push email to the masses, which BB offers, but also talks about PIM sync, & I'm not sure if it's compatible with Thunderbird or, if so, how it would work. I was wondering if anyone has heard of/ has any opinions on it as far as BB goes.

addendum: As I was seearching through the Funambol website, it appears they don't support the Curve 8330 yet , but opinions on it are welcome, anyway...

Posted by: tfp

anyone get the starry night app to work? everytime i hit 'send' it just goes to a white screen. i've let it sit on that white screen for upto 10 mins and nothing happens.

on your bb, go to www.google.com, choose the more link at the top of the page and then you should be able to download all google apps or individual apps

you may need to select the mobile version of google if it is not already selected.

Posted by: dcrhaekte

I have BBToday and really like it but my question is this: how do I make it the main screen that is on all the time? I want it on instead of the screen with all my icons. I still want to be able to get to my screen with my icons but I want to see BBToday as persistent. Every time I want to see it I have to go in that folder and run it. I don't like that.

ive done all this....ive tried for 3 solid days. All i get is, "not available for your RIM blackberry" I once had the google updater, but i had to delete it, it froze my bb.

yeah, ive given up
