Cingular N80?

Did this die in Cingular's testing/review board or is there still a plan to release the phone sometime this year?

as much as it pains me to say it I believe the consensus is though the phone has 1900mhz UMTS or 2100mhz depending on the version since it doesn't have an 850hmz UMTS support Cingular will probably not offere the phone unless there are changes made in the device

I spoke with my Nokia rep and he relayed the terrible news that Cingular is not going to release this phone. I think it is a terrible decision and Cingular's part. I think he said we would see the N91. That sucks-N91 has nothing on the N80.

This is actually good news to me, I HATE having branded phones, and LOVE having phones that no one else has really seen. I'll be buying it unbranded in a heartbeat

You've got better odds of having Cingular change their mind and bringing out the N80 than they do the N91.

Wow, what a coincidence. I had not checked PhoneScoop today.

Well, it looks like there is still hope yet...

Well, in the end this is good new. Because I bet Nokia just makes a revised version, something like the N80i or the N80b. Also, I can't remember where I read it, but I think on MobileBurn they were talking about how Nokia was developing an 850 version for Cingular. I really want an N80, it would be nice to have it by/in summer.

Somehow Nokia did not get the message that Cingular won't accept any 3G phone that doesn't support both 850 and 1900 UMTS. They have to go back to the drawing board and create new models of everything. We will have a long wait for that process.

Couldn't they just change the chip slightly. I mean all they have to do is add an additional fequency. They wouldn't have to change the form factor or anthing else. I bet this phone comes out soon than you think.

I imagine they'll just modify the chip a little bit to work on 850. It doesn't require a drastic change since its a slight frequency difference. I mean, they can make a phone tri-band for Cingular and tri-band for T-Mo, so it can't be too hard.

I hope it comes to Cingular, my killer FAN discount (45% off contract price) would really help out with a phone as expensive as this (is bound to be).
