Even though i will more then likely buy this phone, i cant get over the fact that it doesnt have those 2 features. I knwo that cingular hasnt implemented the technology yet, but i just feel like im buying "old" technology, especially since verizon/sprint have the sister phone and it has EVDO (there version of UMTS/HSDPA).. Even a 3G version would be great (if thats possible).. Anyone else feel the same way i do?

no, because as yo mentioned, its not even fully implemented yet so why would any OEM/ODMs want to make the technology that would be useless for the most part for months?

Its the nature of high-tech stuff - you can either get what you want now, or wait forever because new tech will always be "coming soon." The choice is yours.

I think you answered your own question by your uncertainty.

This phone is overrated if you ask me. I got sick of it after 5 days....

I don't see how the phone is overrated. It has substance, unlike previously hyped phones such as the Motorola RAZR. Also, people aren't paying an arm and a leg just to buy the phone. It is selling well below projected prices, since people are using their B2B accounts to purchase the phone.

Personally, I will be getting the Cingular 8125 as soon as I gather enough money.

UMTS is already online in a few cities.
I'm personally going to hold off from getting anything related to 3G/UMTS since this isn't important for me right now even though my city already is online with this technology and the local Cingular stores are selling UMTS capable latptop cards.

Think about how long it took to get an EDGE capable PPCphone - the 6515 AFTER cingular had already had EDGE for quite some time. I doubt we'll see any UMTS/HSDPA capable PDAphones on cingular until 07.

This is true. EDGE has been avaliable for over 2 years now. We are just now getting some decent EDGE WM devices. Plus, there are hardly any chipsets that support UMTS/HSDPA out there. The chipsets have to be there before manufacturers like HTC can make new phones. Cingular barely has many locations deployed with UMTS/HSDPA and won't have many more until mid-end 06. The focus right now for Cingular is laptop cards for their 3g network. Not really much benefit for the average phone.

I agree we will be lucky to see much of any new WM based devices with UMTS/HSDPA until 2007.

I requested it for my ERP. My buddy had first dibs back in late October and he chose the 2125 since he didn't like "devices the size of a brick". So I got the 8125.

Why I think it's overrated? That's just my personal opinion, but I don't like the low resolution, lack of UMTS and I wanted a stronger camera. The processor stinks if you ask me.
