Why are Cingular ringtones limited for SLVR L7?

Having searched the forums with all variants of search terms, I am resorting to posting my first thread.

I just purchased the Motorola SLVR L7 from Cingular a few days ago. When I attempted to send my phone a few of my favorite ringtones through the Cingular site, I noticed that, when I had found the ringtones and it was time to click on "buy", the ringtones vanished as soon as I identified the phone model.

I previously used the the V551. When I listed my phone as a V551, the ringtone link was sent to my SLVR, but when I tried to download it, I was denied and told that the ringtone wasn't available for my phone.

Is there a licensing issue here? As far as I can tell, the SLVR has the same sound capabilities as the SLVR. I can download some of the same ringtones, but the SLVR selection is much smaller. Anybody know why? Is there a method by which I could download a ringtone to my V551 and move it, via my computer, to the SLVR?

Many thanks for answers.

Maybe its because the PHONE JUST CAME OUT. Give it a bit of time. Im sure in the Moto section, they already have ways thought up to make your own and move it to the phone, but man...it JUST CAME OUT.

I am not aware of a way yet to move off ringtones which you have purchased. But that's why I don't bother, since it's so painfully easy and much cheaper to make your own custom ringtones. You can use a bluetooth connection on both phones to move anything you cook up on your own from phone to phone, or phone to PC. A simple bluetooth dongle for your PC can be had for ~$10.

Rule: Never buy ringtones/wallpapers. Make your own or get one off the internet. I can't believe people still buy that stuff.

I appreciate the feedback regarding ringtones, and generally I agree that buying content for phones is pointless. I make my own wallpapers with photoshop elements or find them on the web. As for ringtones, I just don't have the time to create my own ringtones as a general rule, but I DO like my phone to play The Imperial March (Darth Vader's Theme) whenever my wife calls.

What I am really interested in understanding is why the content varies between, for example, the SLVR, the RAZR and the V551. If these phones have essentially the same ability to play ringtones, why would the set of ringtones for the SLVR be substantially smaller than the other two? Does any Cingular person know what underlies this difference? Are there licensing issues? I am curious from a legal and technical perspective. I am aware that this is a new phone, and content will increase. I just want to know why the Cingular content available for existing, similar Motorolas isn't immediately available to the SLVR on Cingular.

wav pad and any mp3. You could make a ringtone in about 30 seconds, I do it all the time

as far as the tech reasons, I agree with nuku. Since the phone just came out, they probably haven'd had the time to update all aspects of their web page for the SLVR

Try the following site

You can make your own MP3 ringtones and wallpapers by click "create" link on the front page.
