For the most part I'm happy with my new 8125, but I'm having some issues and I bet others are too. So I wanted to make a thread for those types of posts.

I was having issues getting mail at all but thanks to someone last night I can now receive my school email. However I can't send any. Whenever I try I get a mail to myself saying invalid recipient. Huh? Why would that be?

And I also can't connect to wireless networks. I've been trying to connect a home and something isn't right. It finds my network and I can enter the key and then it gets an IP and acts connected. However I can't load any websites or anything.

If anyone can help me with these issues I'd appreciate it. And I encourage anyonne with issues to post here as well.

And I just typed all this on my 8125!

I had the same problem with the web surfing but then it synced up. I didn't change anything just picked up the wifi connection.

Ok here is my issue.....Has to do with email.

I use comcast. I am able to view my messages through comcast.net. I log on using my computer and view email. I have also downloaded messaged to my 8125. So I have an exact mirror of what is on my comcast.net and on my 8125. When I delete from Comcast.net then hit send recieve on my 8125 it deletes the messages from my 8125 again an exact mirror.

My palm didn't do this. How do I keep messages on my 8125 after I have deleted them from my comcast.net. Remeber I am not access through outlook on my pc so I know about the leave messages on teh server option of outlook.

Please help.

Since you aren't using a exchange server or syncing with Outlook leave the email on your comcast. What's the point of deleting it as i'm sure you don't want all 200+ emails on your device anyways so you only carry say the last 2 weeks worth or something. You can set outlook to delete the mail from the server after 2 weeks and therefore you'll have a copy of it on Outlook for archival purposes but your device will only have new and fresh stuff.

Windows Mobile is all about keeping stuff in sync but i don't remember if mine did that too when i erased a msg from my pop3 server unless you have it connecting via IMAP which will do that.

I am using pop which is why I don't understand why it is doing that. I am going to try and delete and create a new account see what happens.

Ok I wanted to download from media net. I sent the mms message to my phone clicked on the link and does not connect my. Anyone have any suggestions?

I am having some problems connecting with ActivSync. I have outlook installed on my machine not hooked up to a exchange server, I just use it for my calendar and maped Hotmail to it aswell. For some reason ActivSync will not sync up the calendar.

Also how do you close out programs? Whenever I click on the Start Menu I have a ongoing list of programs I used, its there anyway to clear this?

Also how do I clear the phone #s off my sim card?

Try runing off the cingular proxy for the phone. My phone had that on and once I turned it off everything worked fine. The proxy was also blocking streaming media.

Yeah well if you turn of the proxy you can't access cingular media net, or download ringtones from there site.

There has to be a way to set up multible connections. When using wifi use these settings and when using gprs use these settings.

Click on Start, Select Settings, Select the System Tab on the bottom, then Select Memory, Select the Running Programs Tab on the bottom, You should now be able to see all the programs currently running, and should be able to stop them all.

Im having the same issue-- It connects but then doesnt work correctly....I understand that this phone is an 802.11b phone and that I have an 802.11g network and that it is "supposed" to be backward compatible but I am wondering if this has anything to do with it? Ive tried using an 802.11b USB adapter on a laptop on my network and problems with that as well.???

Ive got a belkin F5d7230-4 802.11g router-- Ill have to double check- but I know the default setting is B and G- and I havent changed it-

I'm having the same issue with my wireless card and connecting to the internet through my PC. Passthrough is not working. I've diabled firewalls, Norton and still nothing. There is some issue with the device always using the MediaNet connection to get to the internet.
The way the issues manifests itself on the PC is when I'm syncing I can sync locally but it can't get out to my Exchange Server.
Any idea's anyone?

Actually that did fix it. But I think I'll keep the proxy on the "Internet" and make all my wireless networks connect with my unproxyed "Work" network.

But the proxy deleted itself. What is the proxy address so I can put it back in?

Edit: My email issue is a personal thing with my school. Working on fixing it.

Can someone who has not changed their proxy settings do me a favor and tell me what your phone has listed here:
start-settings-connections tab at bottom-connections icon-click on "Set up my proxy server" under MEdia Net and you will see the Proxy Server: field, what does yours say?

I got ActivSync to sync with my Notes without any error, but when I select Calendar or Mail .. it will give me a error. Can anyone help me fix this?

OK... I setup pop3 and when i go to send/receive it says: cannot connect with current connection settings. Agile says that same thing but after hitting OK 20 times it just connects. IE works fine though. What can i do?

OK well if i disable the proxy server it gets to Connecting to: Cingular GPRS but just hangs... Then it says Cannot connect for unknown reason

i just noticed that whenever i launch a program that involves typing that my keyboard on the screen loads up too. i don't want this 'screen keyboard' to launch unless i manually call it up. how do i keep it from loading with every program that you can type in? thanks.

What about bluetooth? Has anyone run into not being able to send anything via bluetooth? I've looked through the settings, even went as far as to check the device tutorials on the cingular site, but they were using the same one as for teh siemens sx66.

Ok. I removed the proxy and after a few reboots it is now working for me to sync to my remote Exchange Server through the PC when connected via USB and my Wirless connection connects to the internet now. However, I can't get to the Media Net Home page which is ok for me.
Anyone have success setting up a work connection and using that for Internet via wireless and USB passthrough? It looks like MS took an already confusing Connection Settings section and made it worse...

Has anyone tried installing PhoneAlarm yet? It would appear after a soft reset it causes the handset to lock up completely. Maybe someone is using it on an 8125 with success??

here's my problem. the signal cuts completely out. the bars that show signal start at 1, then move forward and then start all over again. when i check the status, it says searching for network. anyone have any ideas, i'm on the phone with tech support right now and they seem oblivious to this phones existence let alone helping me resolve this issue.

Just a heads up. The 8125 doesn't seem to work with WPA2. I had to revert to WPA to get it to connect to my Linksys WRT54G.

Hey, so I just ran a speed test and I have 4/5 bars and it says I am on edge up top. The speed test only came up with 41.2 kilobits per second. What can I do? Does it matter that I dont have the proxy server enabled? Tech support told me that was the only way to get the pop email, agile messenger, and MSN to work correctly. Thanks

Enabling the proxy got me up to about 190kb a second but i lose all functionality from other programs such as msn, pop3, agile

The proxy serves as a data compression server that speeds up web surfing. If your programs are not working correctly make sure they are set to connect to the "Work" Network and not "The Internet".

No idea for pocket msn as I do not use it. For the Pop Email client edit your email account, on the tab for incoming and outgoing server there is an "option" menu you must select. The first screen should say connection with a drop down list of possible connections.

OK I found that setting and that works. There has to be a general setting somewhere in there that tells programs to connect threw work and not the internet. I think i remember seeing it but i dont know where

Hate to go change the subject from all the wi-fi and networking talk about I have a question about my "Contacts" hard button (on right side of today screen). I installed Contact Breeze and uninstalled it because it was acting quirky. After doing so, the "Contacts" button would not map back to the default Contact list. In fact, I installed Pocket Informant now and want to have the "Contacts" button mapped to the Pocket Informant contacts. Any ideas on how to remap this?

I've searched and can't find an answer for this. Any help would be appreciated. I just picked up an 8125....i know how to sync the ringtones on the phone. How do I get the mp3 files as ringtone options. Under the phone section, the only options for rigtones are the default ones. any ideas?

one1, place them on your memory card so that the MP3's are not in any folders. So right when you open up the memory card, place them there. If you do not have a memory card, then you need to navigate to my start - Mobile Device - My Windows Mobile-Based Device - Windows - Rings and place them in here.

If you do not have a memory card I strongly encourage you to get one as placing MP3's in ear will eat up the memory quick, espicially if you have not shortened the MP3's down to 30 seconds.

For some reason, the Microphone AGC setting doesn't seem to stay "Enabled" after a soft reset. Any ideas?

Also, at the lowest volume setting, in-call volume is quite loud. (at least, it is on my device, for my preference) Is there a registry tweak or something to adjust this?

how exactly does one tell a given program to use the work connection or the Internet connection....

I eagerly anticipate an answer. I'll post it if I google something myself....

What I'm finding out is that there is no way to assign a given program to a given connection. All programs go through whatever connection is active and if both are active then Work trumps Internet. That being said, there's no way to have some programs go through a proxy while others do not. You attach WAN access points to either the work or the internet connection, and you create connections to attach others such as GPRS.

Very convoluted and I'm disappointed by this since in my case it means that Verichat (which won't work through a proxy) can't co-exist with PIE unless PIE doesn't use a proxy either. the only way to change this may be to fine tune the proxy settings by port.

It sure would make sense if we could point programs to either the Work or Internet profile, but then the WiFi profile based configuration would be a problem....

This could be much more simple.

There are two volume settings, one for Windows sound effects and one for in-call volume. You can only adjust in-call volume using volume button while in a call. You can, however, adjust it using stylus when you're not in call. It's the volume slide on the right side.

I've tried searching through these threads to no avail...but does anyone know how to get the alarm to be an mp3? I know you can get 3rd party software but i also want to make the voicemail alert an mp3. Anyone know if theres a reg hack for this??

I know you can set .wav files to these but i think they can only be 15 seconds long. Anyone know how to increase this or use mp3 files?

I have an 8125 and PhoneAlarm running and I have no problems with it ... well except that it messes with my backlight settings (I am pretty sure it is this program).

If it helps I am running version 1.30.03

Russell1: I've had this same problem as well. Anyone have a fix or having the same problem?

I even tried moving all of my picture IDs to my storage card in hopes that they would show up, but no go. When they were still in the 'My Pictures' folder, although they showed up blank I could tap a square and it would use that picture, but I'd have no idea which picture it was using until I went back into the contact and viewed it after saving. That was tiresome to have to guess each time, but it did work.

I may try that again and move them back from the storage card. Anyone having this same issue or have an idea for a fix?

Anyone getting this error?

I get it from time to time when closing apps using the X. It even happened once during a phone call and I had to wait it out before I hit OK so it wouldn't reboot me in the middle of the call. Here are the apps I have installed, any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I am having issues where the unit soft keys tags will remain as Contact and Menu..no matter what program I go into. I would just like to hard reset and re-install my programs and edits. How do you hard reset?

for a hard reset, go to start - settings - click the system tab at the bottom - clear storage - enter 1234 in the field and then click yes. This will restart your phone and load all the files again like the first time you took it out of the box.

i am having a problem uninstalling a program, it is photo contacts pro. i used the unitall on both the activesync and the device itself and still get errors when i reboot the unit. it say that it can not run the program because it is missing files. i have used the registry editor to remove everything i think is related to it but still not workie. is there an uninstaller program? please help me out

I Have An Issue---Some where along the lines of "syncing(sp?)" the phone w/ my computer, I lost everything on my storage card! Albeit it was only music and porn

i want to sync to my outlook for my contacts...and it doesnt seem to sync my contacts from my outlook...is there something that im doing wrong...also is there a way to clear the last person that called on the top of the phone screen...

When I tap the power button or when the phone automatically goes into standby after 3 minutes or so, and if I wait for about 30 minutes or so, I am no longer able to receive phone calls anymore. Is this normal? Shouldn't I be able to have the phone in "standby" while still being able to receive calls? Anyone have this experience?

I'm sure this has been touched on some place, I haven't run accross it yet. I'm trying to set my pop3 comcast email account up and I can't get it to work correctly. I've completed the automatic feature where it sets all the settings for you. I get the error to check settings when i try to send/receive. I saw a post where it indicated i needed to change source to "media net" instead of "the internet", i've tried that.....same error. Any help would be appreciated.

is there any web browser out there that is fast and good for our 8125....the windows IE isnt bad but for some pages with drop down menus, wont show up...and minimo is really slow...miniopera is fast but somepages is all messed up....please help..or is there a way to set Window IE to show the drop menus...is it java freindly???thanks in advance....

Yesterday (Sat) the battery started to drop really fast. Not sure why. Today it was much of the same thing. Now when I try to turn it on, plugged in or not, it goes to the Cingular boot up screen and freezes. The only option at that point is to remove the battery. Any ideas?

Are you able to connect surf the internet without changing any configuration settings? If you're not on a wifi network all programs that need access to the internet should go through the media net connection. Are you testing this with the usb cable plugged in?

I was messing with the reg key to add the -hotmail, to remove it from the list and I deleted the POP3 key. If someone can post all the info inside that key it would be a great help. Since a possible new ROM release this week, I'm just not ready for a Hard Reset

Hey Fellas,

New to the forum so a quick thanks to all the info everyone posts...extrememly informative.

Anyhow, here is my question. Although I am on the unlimited data plan with Congular I was told that after 15 minutes the GPRS signal is supposed to automaticaly disconnect. Mine stays on indefinately.

Any suggestions? I would like it to be off when not in use. The only way I have been able to turn it off is to switch the "flight mode" on then off.

Hold down the end call button for 5 seconds and that will terminate the GPRS connection or you can search for GB-Soft Tweak. It will give you a little more control over GPRS

Well folks I had my phone for 4 days before I had to return it. First of it had a dead pixel. NO big deal I still kept the phone. For 1 pixel i wasnt going to return it. But last night I turned on the phone and it started displaying wavy lines all over the display. I reset phone, hard and soft. Nothing worked. I reformatted phone and proble still there. Took battry and sime out. Nothing worked. So cinbular said to send it back and get a new one. Problem is that they charged me the full price for the phone until they get this one back. So now i'm waiting for new phone to get here and also the return labels for this. Hopefully I can send this one back ASAP and get that $380 charge credit back to my CC. Hope none of you guys are having problems like this. This just started out of the blue. Take care folks.

Ok here is my problem.

I had the SMT5600, and the 2125 and never had this issue.

When i'm at my gym, my phone's audio stream using media player gets constantly interupted and buffers. never had that before with the other 2 phones. when driving i used to get it occasionally, but never as much as now with the 8125. is there a fix for this?

I tried a search for this issue and couldn't find it, so I apologize in advance if this has been covered.

When I installed the software for the 8125, I followed the prompts, restarted my computer and connected the 8125 via the provided USB cable. The computer recognized a new device and proceeded to install it. It wouldn't sync. After searching through the help db, I found the device listed in my hardware profile as a network adapter? I uninstalled it and tried again. It reinstalled it as a network adapter. I uninstalled again and used the hardware wizard, and this time it installed as an HTP device. I have uninstalled it again and don't really know what to try next. Seemless sync with my laptop is one of the reasons I got this thing (that and I was sick of all the resets I was having to deal with on my Treo 650). Any ideas how to install the 8125 under the correct device profile? I need to sync!

Well welcome to the club. I gave up on trying. Now I sync via Bluetooth. I have had (Knock on wood) no issues.

You can try and uninstall outlook then uninstall active sync. then install outlook and try active sync again.

Are you running winXP? Also are you running Service pack 2? Are you runnning any firewall software?

Yeah go MS website and download version 4.1. I had no problem on my XP-SP2. I did have to turn off ZoneAlarm though.

Anybody have problem selecting "phone pad" in the soft keyboard selection menu? Mine would remain in "keyboard". Plus the selection menu would literally take 5-7 seconds to pull up.

I found some other people on xda-developers with the same problem, but nobody had a solution yet other than hardreset.

Does anyone have the original settings for MMS? I went and changed the gateway trying to troubleshoot it and now I forget what it was.

Here are my settings right now:

Server Name: Cingular MMS
Gateway:
Port Number: 80
Server Address: http://mmsc.cingular.com
Connects Via: MEdia Net
Sending Size Limitations: 300kb
WAP Version: WAP 2.0

Thanks for the help guys, it's under MMS Config/Servers/Double Click the Cingular MMS and then you will see the settings.

The only thing that was different was I had an entry for Gateway. I have not messed with my MMS settings or even used it, so these are the factory settings.

I really don't want to have to do a hard reset, but I will if I have to.

1. My virtual keyboard will not change at all. I've installed NullKB, and Fitaly, and neither will change. I select it, and it just stays at the default keyboard.

2. I'm in an EDGE area, and I know that I am because my BlacBerry 8700c reads EDGE all the time, but my 8125 only ever shows the "G" in all situations. I've seen the "E" once, and that was right after a soft reset. It changed to "G" almost immediately, and has never shown itself again.

Any help is appreciated.

I've used activesync via the USB cable no problem, but can't get it to work over Bluetooth, although I have been able to use the 8125 as a BT modem for DUN. Using XP SP2. If anyone can run down the steps they've taken to get it working it would be much appreciated.

I've tried going through the help stuff, setting up a windows com port, telling activesync to look on that port, but when I try to find it from the pc or start from the handheld (connect via bluetooth) I get no joy. on the 8125 I get a message that there is no current partnership with a PC that supports activesync, and even if I try to make a new one it doesn't help...

Randomly, my backlight seems to stay off after I press my power button to return from that "sleep mode". The only way I'm able to get it back is by holding the power button and clicking Yes next to a light (I'm assuming this what everyone refers to as a "soft reset")

Anyone else having this problem? Just wanna know if there is something wrong with my phone.

hey i am new to the forums so i would like to thank everyone here for all the knowledge i have gained from reading these posts. i am having problems accessing my yahoo pop 3 account. i havnt found anything so far to help me out. when i hit send and recieve it says its connecting...then i get a login screen with my username and password i fill it out and hit ok then i just keep getting that screen for two or three more times it says its loggin in and then i get a message that says--messages cnnot be downloaded to your mobile device. make sure that you are connected and that your email account settings are correct. then try to download messages again...i have tried alot of things, granted im not to familiar with this phone but i would like to think im not a complete moron,

Before the new voicemail system I dialed some other # to get to my voicemail, now if I call the voicemail it says the number doesnt exist or whatver and I just dial my own number and it works fine.

How do I fix it so it just dials my #, or whatever the new voicemail # is?

I did a clear storage, then shut down the phone before the phone could install the cab with all Cingular trash. I ended up with a nice clean phone and no way of getting caught with that GPRS setting crap.

But I lost my midlet manager. I installed Google Local and the application appeared but unless I go and try to download and install it again, I'm unable to access the midlet. I go to my My Midlet folder and its empty. Is there a registry edit I can use to make the Midlet Manager reappear?

Not sure if this is exactly what you're looking for, but here's how I changed my voicemail settings:

Start > Settings > Phone > Services (Tab) > Voice Mail and Text Messages > Get Settings > Voice Mail (change the number here)

I posted this on the Today screen thread, but I realize it's better suited here.

Anyone else having issues with SPB Diary? It was my favorite application on my Dell Axim and I'm bummed that I can't get it to work on my 8125.

My 8125 is now downloading the Cingular stuff after my 2nd hard reset due to SPB Diary. I was hoping that my device was more stable now than it was before and I'd have better results. Nope. Same exact thing. It installs, but never loads the application on the Today screen and I am unable to do anything. I waited 30 minutes, did multiple soft resets, nothing. I have plenty of free program RAM and the application is installed to main memory. It's just a lock of the Today screen, since applications that run automatically do work. ActiveSync sees the device but never fully connects.

So now I'm hoping that SPB Backup works better than SPB Diary does. I did a backup to my storage card right before trying SPB Diary again.

Oh well.

P.S. The only other Today plug-in I have is Resco Today. I don't think that's the problem because the first time SPB Diary died on me, I had PocketPlus installed and had the same results.

Make sure there is no other client accessing your Yahoo mail acount. i.e. I have Outlook on my desktop download from Yahoo using POP3. If by coincidence my 8125 is trying to check Yahoo POP3 email while my desktop Outlook is, I get the same thing you do. Once my desktop Outlook has logged out it will work.

I believe this works if you're logged in on the website too. Just make sure nothing else is logged in and more importantly make sure you have POP Access ENABLED in Yahoo! settings.

I was using my 8125 last night.... when i noticed the screen start fading white then eventually within 3 seconds the screen turned bright white then did a reset by itself. Has this happend to anyone?? I'm thinking my 8125 may need to go back to the store either for an exchange.. or go back for good before its too late.

The only issue that I have with the 8125 that I've been playing with is that the "z" and "y" keys are in the wrong places. Very odd. Have to get another one.

Phone is plugged into a separate powered 3 port USB. After it was plugged into the port with a full charge and it stayed overnight it had 0 power in the battery 8 hours later. Same thing happened twice. Once it was at 80% and the rest of the time it was 100%.

Cingular sending new battery and I will report its behavior.

BTW - the unit was totally dead so I had to remove the battery and use the AC wall charger to get some juice in it.

Did you try pluging it into the computer? The powered USB hub i have is powered but to low to charge many devices i have.

Its the only device on the port. Its powered 24 / 7 whether the PC is on or off. I had been using it with an MPX220 for a long time to charge overnight with the phone and pc off.

Login to Yahoo Mail on the web with your PC. Go to settings and find where it says "Pop access and Forwarding" or something. Enable POP3.

I am not 100% sure but I believe POP3 with Yahoo is a paid feature. I have a Yahoo Plus account so I've been using it for years...not sure if it's available for free. It's $24.00 a year though so for me, it's worth it - I think I get more space too, my Yahoo account has like 4GB of storage

well the thread was closed ("8125 just quit working") on Friday - and supposedly resumed here. But noone is posting. Now I have had the issue! I am really upset. I treat my phone like a baby. Yet just last night after using it for a call it just lost service. It now is constantly searching for voice service to no avail and a big X for data service. No edge or GPRS. The phone itself is still working fine but absolutley no service. Tried soft/hard reset. Removing battery and sim. My wife's phone works fine (not my area) and my SIM works in hers. This totally sucks. I have added no software other than the trial of VC which expired a month ago.

Follow up...

so I figured I would try to take my wife's SIM and put it the 8125. Guess what it worked. So not a problem with my phone, but the SIM. The funny thing is that my SIM (new 64K) was getting bars on my old LG. Went to store and got them to check the card. Evidently, I must have reset phone during a cell tower u/l. All the data was not pushed and therefore corrupted the SIM. No amount of re-registering would work. They needed to replace it all together. Seems like the new 64K system has a potental bug that is nasty.

I have a SanDisk 1GB mem card. Over the past 2 days I have had to take it out and reset it because the phone wasn't recognizing the card at all. Once I took it out and put it back in, it was fine.

Anyone else experience this problem?

I'm wondering if it's my card or the phone!

Ok, I have a quick question regarding the slide show with images. I created a folder on my storage card and loaded the photos there (I've resized them to 240x320). I then go to File Explorer and select my storage card and navigate to the images. I select the first one and when it's displayed then click on menu and select Play Slide Show but nothing happens (Play slide show is not an option until you select a photo and are able to view it). I copied the photos onto the phone in My Pictures folder and selected the first image and when it came up then I selected menu and Play Slide Show and it worked. I closed the program and then opened it back up again (My Picutures folder) and it wouldn't do the slide show. So then I went into programs, Pictures & Video and navigated to the folder on my storage card and then before clicking on an image I selected Play Slide Show from the menu (normally you have to click on an image first and once it's displayed then you can select menue and then Play Slide Show) and it worked repeatedly. Does the Play Slide Show only work when in the program Pictures & Video? I figured if it was an option in the menu then it would work regardless what program you were using.

I installed Minimo but when I run it, it's full of adware. so I when I uninstalled it from remove programs there was an error. So it removed it from the programs list but the app is still on there.

Any ideas How I can get rid of this thing?

I am having some issues with gmail. I have my email program set up on the 8125 and it retrieves and sends my emails through gmail flawlessly. I hit send and receive and all my messages come in. The problem is that once I hit send and receive again (and connect to an empty gmail Inbox), all my messages disappear. Is there a way to stop that and keep my messages in my 8125 pop inbox until I delete them?

This problem is related to gmail. Not your phone. I have the same issue. Hopefully they will fix this soon. For now I used the mobile version of gmail.

Some how we need to get more visibility to this thread or the previous one (8125 stopped working). for the past three days, I have been involved in the grueling task of figuring what is wrong. In short, due to the 64k SIM chips in 8125 there are certain tower data that when being registered with phone (esp. when moving between towers) corrupts the radio. what does that mean? I do not know. Here are the facts.

1) I was driving from DC to MD and after making a call the radio went dead (no voice no data {! for signal and x for data} - pda worked fine.)
2) no amount of resests (hard/soft) worked to correct problem.
3) When I got home, I waited all night for service to return to no avail.
4) My wifes SIM works fine in my phone (at first).
5) Cingular store says my SIM is "missing data" but when data is addded, it still does not work. Only solution is to give me new SIM.
6) That worked for a couple of hours, then new SIM died again and no radio service.
7) upon trying to get a new new SIM, nothing works - radio is really dead. No body's SIM or new SIM will now work. They gave me a new phone.

I have been through the above process now twice. I have installed no apps other than AIM and Magic Button. No regristry hacks. I never dopped either phone, it just happens. the only common activiity between two phones is that the radio seems to drop (when it first happens) while I am driving from DC to MD. ..ie. switching towers. I bet it has some thing to do with ATT vs Cingular towers.

today (my third phone) it happened again but this time on from MD to DC. The difference is ususally I am on the phone while I drive to work (so I do not think it can register towers). Today I made a bunch of calls, but right in between the radio went dead. I was so pissed. But then, the it happend - like never before as I continued to drive towards DC it figured itself out (without reset) and began to work.
All day today it has been fine. I wonder, if because I was driving towards to tower if it did not have more time to regrister and collect data as opposed to drving away and corrupting my SIM. who knows. But I do know I am not the only one who has been dealing with this!

I am having a similar problem, my problem got fixed to some extent after i swithed phones and also changed to a 3G sim

I have looked but can't find this answer. Just migrated from Treo 600 to the 8125. On the Treo I could send an SMS to an email address by just entering the email address in the "To:" section of the SMS and the Treo took care of the routing. On the 8125 it appears that I have to put "36245" in the "To:" field and the email address as the first part of the body of the email. This is kind of a hassle, particularly when I am replying to an email I have received as an SMS. Is there any work-around for this?

I think using MMS allows me to do this like the Treo but since I have many more text messages allowable each month than MMS I would prefer to use the former.

BTW, I've not posted before so please excuse me if I am doing this incorrectly.

My activesync works fine but somehow I have set up the Outlook on my computer incorrectly. I use Att.net for my email. I have changed all the settings to the same as my att account and I still cant get it to work. Any suggestions?

now i read about people having issues with thier minisd cards disappearing which i too sometimes experience but now i just got the biggest of them all....for some reason my whole sd card got erased out of no where....anyone else have this problem with thier 8125.....others may think its a software issue so i'm gonna do a hard reset and install my programs one at a time and see what happens....

I have had my 512MB Mini-SD wiped out completely twice with the 8125. At first, I thought it was due to possibly a bad card. Now, I've seen quite a few posts on the same thing happening to others, so I am not sure what is causing it..its got to either be something with the ROM or an application that is causing it. I have not upgraded the ROM yet, so I am wondering if the updated K-Jam rom is going to fix this. I have been hesitant to try it, but curious if it is going to solve this.

It's got to be an app that you have installed. List what apps you have and we can try and find the culprit. I had a 1GB TopRam card in my 8125 for over a month now and it's never been wiped out (*knocks on wood*).

I posted some of these issues up on the Cingular forums, and one poster that seemed to be in the know replied said that the MiniSD becoming lost or erased was a known issue and supposedly going to be fixed in the next rom upgrade..hmm.. I wonder if the updated K-Jam rom still has this issue?

He said the SIM card problem could have been related to a problem with a cingular database.

Anybody have problem with messenging DISPLAYING mails? I can send and receive ok, but when I click on the message header I get a blank screen. This is the second time I have this problem. Last time I just went into windows\messaging\ folder and removed all files followed by softreboot. This time it's not working.

I wish I had an answer for you...I've had the exact same problem. I think something happens during download and it doesn't come through completely and I don't see a way in the messaging application to redownload the message.

When it happens, I read the message in the browser instead (I forward all my email to a gmail account for easier web-based reading).

With all the 8125 forums, please forgive me if this has already been posted...

It appears that when there's any sort of data traffic on my 8125, and the device is near something else with a speaker (clock radio, TV, computer speakers, etc..), I get a lot of interference on the other device. It basically sounds like morse code/static.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I was wondering if anyone could help me with setting up outlook to sync with an exchange server. I am not sure if there is a connection, but using microsoft outlook on my desktop requires enabling the option to "connect to exchange using HTTP." This allows use of remote procedure calls within Http packets. This caused some issues in inititally connecting using outlook on my computer to connect, and cannot think of anything else that could be cauing it to not work properly on my 8125. Can anyone suggest a solution or any ideas? Thanks

I have spb Pocket Plus installed on mine and there is a backlight slider icon on my today screen. I saw somewhere this is the problem and all I need to do is remove it from my today screen. I have done this several times and after the screen goes to sleep.... it will not come back on.

I really like the look of spb but may have to remove it completly.

Does anybody know a good fix?

I seem to have a recurring problem with my hotmail account.

Fairly frequently I get the message "Downloading a message failed. If you are reading it, please close the message and try again" when I do a Send/Receive. Only way to get rid of this error seems to be to Switch Accounts and essentially setup Hotmail again and download all of my messages from scratch. Sometimes works for a while but then eventually get this error or sometimes seems to do it immediately. Seems more common after I delete a bunch of messages. Makes Hotmail pretty useless. Have no problems with my own POP email account.

Any ideas?

Start -> Settings -> Sounds & Notifications.

Go to second tab and select Phone:Voicemail in drop-down. You can change sound, vibrate, etc.

Is that all you wanted or am I missing something??

Cannot get synched with outlook 2002 not matter how I try both through USB and or BT ...strangely I can download to the phone ( programs) Active Synch does start and retrieves name of phone but then gets hung saying " retrieving settings" and then just stays there, if I close it out , then pull it up again I can use explore and see all files etc HELP ANYONE

Has anyone had an issue on the 8125 where the display has a red line going across the bottom of the screen right above where the battery icon is? I've tried doing a soft reset on the phone but that didnt work. I've also tried powering down the phone for about 10 minutes and removing the battery and sim. But that hasnt worked either. When I run any application it goes away in that applcation (ie calculator , file explorer etc). So it leads me to believe its a setting in the phone but I havent changed any settings. Please help.

Phone number differentiator not visible in text messaging contacts. I select "menu", "add recipient" and am able to view the contact names, but the letters indicating "m", "w", or "h" do not show up and I end up adding each one and then removing the non-mobile numbers. Any suggestions?

For some reason the soft keyboard selector pullup takes 7 seconds to pop up on my 8125. Thanks to a member on xda developer, the problem was traced to MS Voice Command. No real work around at this time other than to remove the MS voice command program.

You can try and uninstall outlook then uninstall active sync. then install outlook and try active sync again.

Are you running winXP? Also are you running Service pack 2? Are you runnning any firewall software?

well i have been having some trouble with my 8125 ringing / receiving calls...has anyone had this happen to them where you dont receive your calls, peeps have told me that the phone rings twice then it goes to VM....i have tested it out and did exactly that...i did a soft reset then i was able to get my calls...also had my phone vibe when it was set to ring....also did a soft reset and then it was fine...has anyone heard of these things happening??

I have hacked MS Voice Command to work via BT on my 8125 and it works fine with my Motorola h820 BT headset...My headset is dying so I decided to sping a little and buy the Jabra JX10...What a great headset!

Now what is happening:

with the H820 I could initiate a call via MSFT VC by just tapping the headset's button, and that would worj flawless for all my calls of the day

with the Jabra JX10, its works the first time flawlessly but that's it...if I want to re-initiate a VC call from the headset I need to Soft Reset the 8125...

Very weird...I don't think I want to be soft reseting the 8125 after ecery BT initiated call I make through Voice Command!

Any brave insights this great community may have would be greatly appreciated...

This is a known issue with some headsets like the JX10 and my Moto H700. Sucks...I'm trying to find a solution but nothing so far.

The little playing around that I did seems to indicate that the phone doesn't seem to register with VC after each call that its ready for the next call to be initiated (aka doesn't refresh/clear the BT channel?)...

Just my .02c

Given this purely theoretical observation, it may be a compounded hardware- hacked Voice Command issue...

Thoughts?

FWIW, I have the same issue with my Jabra BT800. It's the main reason I don't use the headset much.

Anyone know if there is an issue with the Jabra BT500? Is it comfortable? VC work with it?

No I mean if you hold the stylus differently. Some people will change how they hold a pen when writing. This would apply to the stylus and screen if you change the angle it touches the screen, it will change the point it registers contact.

Play with it on the notes in freehand and you will better understand what I mean.

You shouldn't have to align screen at all unless you have a hard reset... Unless you are really anal about where you are touching.

I noticed the align screen pops up when I'm playing Galaga. Not sure if it's some key combination I pressed by accident or software triggered. What causes your align screen to show up?

Well lets see here....from what I can recall there have been instances where I'll tap the close [X] and the network window will pop up or one time when I went to tap ZERO on the keypad, the pound symbol appeared instead and then there was the time when I was using my keypad and I'd hit [enter] and the key two spaces over was activated....I could go on and on I guess...oh well, returning it looks like my only option atm...
I don't want to return it; it's just a pain.... I just don't wanna be stuck w/ a defective product....thanks for all of your replies.

I still think the delivery guy and the manner in which he/she delivered the package had something to do w/ this...

I've had it happen a couple of times. Each time, it's with someone else on a cell phone, so I'm never sure whose phone caused it. I'm a little worried that it's mine, because it didn't happen with my previous phone.

Ok gays and gals, this one is driving me

crazy!!! I've had my 8125 for about 4 days and just now got to check it out real good (functions). The probelm is that when i try to connect (using Media Net settings) to the internet the first time everything goes fine, close everything down, end the data connection (by pressing the end key for 5 seconds), then i go back into internet explorer and boom, i get this error message:

Cannot Connect
Dialed:wap.cingular
The answering modem has disconnected. To check your connection settings and change thim if needed, tap Settings. Dismiss

Oh, forgot to add, if i do a soft reset, it works the first time and then breaks...

All settings are from a fresh start, and yes, i've tried the no proxy.

I have hard reset it MANY times and it works fine if i dont load any software. Yeah, i know what you are thinking duh, your software is messing it up. Well, if eWallet, Ringo and Listpro messes up my network connections, back to Cingular the 8125 goes.

No memory cards loaded, fresh hard reset. Everything seems to work ok until i start loading the software. Besides the network problem, it works fine. I'm really looking hard at me Treo 650 and returning the 8125.

Ok, I recently tried installing a bunch of programs through activesync, except my 8125 wasn't connected. No big deal, activesync says it will install the programs on the next sync. When i go to sync my device, everything is good, until I look on my pda and it simply states the installations failed. I tried installing them one by one through activesync with the 8125 connected, and it still won't install. Not even cab files install anymore. I looked at "Remove Programs" on the pda, and nothing is listed anymore. The programs I had installed previously such as opera and agile still work. Oh, I also can no longer sync as the device. I am now seen only as a guest. Any suggestions as to what to do? I really don't want to do a hard reset because I don't have all my contacts backed up and I don't want to have to reconfigure everything from scratch again. Please help.

when I turn on our 8125's, windows media turns on and a window pops up and says a media card was inserted, do I want to search for media files.

Well your in luck (kinda), the same thing happend to me today and i de-installed activesync from my computer and reloaded and that fixed the problem. Hope this helps.

is there a way to get the default voice dialer to recognize ms voice command in it's apps list to attach a voice tag to???

if so, then i could just attach a voice tag to ms voice command. this way when i press the voice dial button on my jx10... the default program will start... i'll ask for ms voice command... and it will load via the default program.

the problem is that the default program doesn't show ms voice command in it's apps list. anyone know how to fix this? reg edit? maybe change the location on an unused application like 'powerpoint' to direct to ms voice command when the powerpoint icon is selected?... possible? thanks again.

I am having active sync problems all of a sudden. I have had the phone for almost 3 weeks and everything was working fine. On the 19th I connected it and it will connect but only as guest. It says to disconnect and reconnect. Nothing happens. I have re-Installed AS4.1 I have deleted all partnerships. I have deleted all partnerships on the 8125. The phone says the standard greeting that is says when the phone is new, AS4.1 is clear of partnerships.....all I get is the same error and Guest connection. I can browse the device and transfer files but no sync. Any suggestions?

OK, I dunno if I should start a new thread or ask my question here. Anyways, my phone/display freezes on occasion whenever I've missed or ignored a call. Also freezes when I answer calls with the pickup key. Just recently, I couldn't open the notification using the soft key.

I'm tired of soft resets!!

The Moto HS850 (what I use) works with it although you have to press the button on the headset 2-3 times to initiate MS VC...but it's not that bad.

I heard that the Jabra BT250's work with it too so you could try that if you're partial to Jabra....

I've tried Motorola HS850, H500, H3, and they all work with MS VC. The only time when I had to press multiple times to activate VC is when the phone is busy doing something else. Most of the time it would respond on first push.

Plantronics have better quality and more comfortable headsets, but unfortunately they have problem with MS VC.

but my main 2 gripes are these:

sometimes, I can't close the last app open. I.e. it WONT go back to the desktop screen. This happens often with phone. Even if I close it.

second gripe, the damn phone answers in my pocket or hangs up on people iMMEDIATELy ..what is the most BASIC way to disable the touchscreen for incoming calls? I HATE installing more programs to fix things as the phone is already prehistorically slow.

Sorry if this has been asked, but it is impossible to search anything. My battery is draining very fast. I am fully charged in the morning, and I don't use the phone much during the day. I got home at 7:30pm and had 51% left. Got one 5 minute phone call and by 9:30 had a meesage that my battery was low. Anyone else having this issue? Think its the battery? phone? Just want to know if its defective.

I also had this problem, but noticed that the drainage was even more severe with WiFi enabled all day, especially moving around alot with the phone searching for new networks.

I have been leaving both bluetooth and wifi on all day, but I haven't noticed the battery issues unitl now. I read a buch of threads on the forum and haven't come across any other reasons for the battery drainage. I will turn them both off and see how it goes? Thanks.

I leave my BT on 24x7 and it doesn't drain 50% in a day.

Other stuff that could drain battery faster: backlit, vibrate notification, Wifi. Minimize those and see if it still drains this fast.

I have BT on all the time and WiFi off unless I'm using it, and the battery goes down about 20 to 25% per day.

I just got the 8125 today and love-like it!?
But why when I go to yahoo or Google .com I can only get the Pda versions ......of the page??
I had a X50v by dell and it would let me go to the real page not the crap pda version..
Is this the way it is for this type of Smart phone works, or am I doing it wrong?

Wile I am in Wifi mode ...if it makes a difference.

Your first issue has been covered in the PocketPC forum. You are not suppose to try and close the Phone App. There is an option that allows you to always keep it alive and hidden when not in use. Please run a search in the PocketPC forums using either magic button or my call sign in the search.

Ok, problem #1

Unable to send text messages. I enter in the numbers and text message, hit send and "Your text message cannot be sent." I already checked teh text message settings and the number is correct. I can receive messages fine, any ideas?

Problem #2

Unable to login to MSN Messanger. I get a message stating "Logon to MSN Messenger Service failed because the serice is not responding. Please try again later". Well I've been trying for days now. Any ideas?

Problem #3

Unable to connect to local Wi-fi network using wep. Linksys router, I put in the network key and the it will keep "connecting" and never connect.

Solution that worked for me for problem #2 and 3

Click on your data connection - click settings - connections - advanced tab - select networks - select media net for both (i know this has nothing to do with wifi but for some reason it worked for me) then for the first option select edit - go to the proxy settings tab and uncheck "This network uses a proxy server to connect to the internet."

Soft reset your phone, and wifi and msn should connect.

If they don't check your msn password, and if it still wont work then it is an msn server problem which happens a lot too.

u arent missing anything with msn...its not worth the effort. and i dont have a fix for your wifi..seems lots of people have had wifi problems..there is a troubleshoot thread. mine connects fine to both my home linksys wit WEP and my college's network

I am seriously considering this phone, but I fear the sliding mechanism. Has anyone began to notice the slide becoming loose? I have handled a real one and a display model. The display model was far too loose, and the real one was really tight. I suspect the model had been played with a lot, but at the same time, I will be playing with mine a lot and I do not want this to happen too quickly. Perhaps the model was not built as sound as the live models (hopefully).

i played with the model too, it is a toy compared to the real thing trust me. i haven't used the slider enough to see about long term, but it feels solid now.

After about a month of use, the slider is a little loose when the keyboard is in the closed position. When the keyboard is out it's still very stiff.

My pior phone was the 6516 HP and on power off it would automatically lock the buttons so as not to have issues with poweron and accidental dialing of the phone. That function is not available on the Mobile 5 phones, is there a third party app, (pronounced "crappy way to solv the problem") that i can install that would lock the buttons on power off yet still make it so I can answer the phone quickly. The other problem is that I have accidentially called people and left 11 minute voice mails.

If you have a storage card, they would go in \Storage Card\

Hello - I am a first time poster begging for assistance.

I have a Cingular 8125 running WM5.0. I am using Activesync 4.1 (which came with the phone).

My business uses Exchange - from which I can access via the web using OWA.

My Activesync on my 8125 was working on and off about 4 days ago - and now does not work at all in synching with my server.

Everytime my mail on my 8125 tries to synch with my server, I receive an error on Activesync that says, "Your account in Microsoft Exchange Server does not have permission to synchronize with your current settings. Contact your Exchange Server administrator. Support code:0x85010001"

I have called Cingular, Microsoft, and my company internal IT department. Cingular and MS basically said, "not our problem". My company exchange server IT group is looking at it - but nothing has changed in 5 days.

It appears to me that my issue is related to the one on this board.

I am asking that someone who has seen this issue and knows how to resolve it - please let me know. I can email you - or even call you for assistance. Like many of you on this board - the reason I bought this phone was for the email Activesync - which is not working at all! PLEASE PLEASE HELP!

Ive tried everything and it seems that you cannot mass copy contacts over to the SIM card. I have everything in my phone twice because they are on the SIM and in the phone but I dont want to delete the numbers off of the sim card if I cant put them all back at once. The only thing I see is the ability to copy one contact at a time to the sim card.

Am I missing something or does the phone not have that option???

This isn't exactly what you are looking for, but if you just want a way to backup your contacts without using activesync, you can use Total Commander to copy the "pim.vol" file from the root directory over to an sd card or something like that. That has all your contatcs stored on it, and possibly other PIM information as well.

Hi--first time poster. Thanks to suggestions on this forum, if I soft reset a couple of times I am finally able to connect and synch (AS 4.1, USB, XP, SP2). Now I'm trying to add 3rd party apps and the .exe file from the app will start loading, then the "Add/Remove Programs" screen comes up, but it's blank. The app freezes (it's SPB Pocket Plus, but I tried a couple other programs too, and also tried it from a different d/l source--same thing) and won't go any further, and the Add/Remove Programs screen just sits there. Also, if I hit the "Explore" button in Active Sync it pulls up a mobile device window, but there's nothing in it. I haven't been able to find anything out on the Forums on this type of problem. I've uninstalled/reinstalled several times but it keeps doing the same thing.

I tried calling Cingular, who put me through to Microsoft, who wanted to charge $35 for support! I opted to do a little more research. Any suggestions?
