Motorola: General ringtone info

After a little bit of work, I found these...

1. Motorola Ringtone Maker: HERE
Need this only if you want to create your own tones with an onscreen keyboard...

2. Motorola Ringtone Checksum Gen: HERE
This will create a full ringtone SMS with checksum you need to send to a Motorola phone...

3. Nokia to Motorola Ringtone Converter: HERE
We all know the massive database of Nokia tones... now use them on your Motorola phone!

4. ICQ: ICQ SMS supports most major carriers. Use this to send your SMS if you cannot find a clean web gateway.

Questions?

Posted by: celldude

i can't seem to convert ringtones into the motorola v60 format. i cannot enter keys like +, -, 4

i think it is only limited to one octave....not sure.

any ideas qube?

Posted by: Qube

AFAIK, Motorola ringtones are limited to one octave.

Posted by: celldude

how can i enter them into my v60? it seems to be a different format than other motorola phones

Posted by: ~BabyPants~

Someone; please help me.

Wht do I need to make ringtones for the t193?
ANd how do I make the tones, or what do I do with them after composing them with the rington maker?

Thanks for any replies.

Posted by: Cantley

Qube,

Is this how it is done:
1) I get (or create) a Motorola Ring Tone
2) Run it through the SMS Checksum (using link you provided)
3) E-mail this to my phone

Then what? Sorry if that seems like a dumb question, I just want to make sure I am not making a really obvious mistake.

Thanks for your help,

Chris

Posted by: Qube

No, not email. You need to SMS to your phone. You can do this quite easily via ICQ or your provider's own gateway. However, in my case, Fido charges 10c per SMS from their webpage so I do it through ICQ, which is free.

Posted by: Cantley

Thanks, that worked perfectly. It turns out that e-mailing also works (I use Rogers - used their port and also e-mailed the tone directly - both versions arrived as "Music tones").

Has anyone actually discovered a tone that sounds good? i tried several but could not say I was overly impressed with any of them. I was hoping the "Hockey Night in Canada" theme would sound good but I could not get it to work with the T193. I am not sure what I was doing wrong, everything else I found on the web worked after I put it through the Motorola Checksum generator.

Again thanks for the complete instructions, I would never have figured that out for myself.

Chris

Posted by: Qube

You're welcome. Anyhow, you need to remember that if you are converting tones from other sources... Motorola phones support only one octave (unlike Nokia with three)... so this may be the reason for tones not sounding 'right'.

Posted by: SushiOnSake

the V60c actually supports 3 octaves. It says in the manual that you change the octave by pressing the "1" key (once for Octave 1, twice for 2, thrice for 3).

PS Hi everyone. this is my first post at this forum.

Posted by: ndeans

Yeah, the 60t and I would assume the 60g supports 3 octaves as well. And the checksum gen does not work for the v60 line.

It's a cool site to get ring tones for my T193g. Motorola has a similar store for ring tones but charges $1 a tone. This site is about $.20 per tone which is not bad since you get the first tone for free. Just wanted to share this with folks that don't have the time to compose their own tones. Like me =)

My p7389 GSM Supports three octaves as well for the ring tone converter you should try the club nokia website at

http://www.club.nokia.co.uk/login/d...=GB&language=EN

You can get free ring tones from here.

I'm very new to cell phone stuff since I dont really use it much nor I really care about it(nowadays anyway.......)so I dont really know much about the new features like SMS...etc. Anyway, my dad got me a Motorola V60G and since I'm stuck with it(cant sell it.......he'd be mad for sure) so I might as well try to enojoy it....like making my own ringtone.

I have used the ringtone maker from previous post.(great link, thanks so much!) and I dont know how to send it to my cell now. Could anyone help me out? I've tried to use fido's but it doesnt seem to let you send your own ringtone nor support motorola cells. I tried the ICQ SMS and got nothing........if nothing work......I guess I'll have to enter it on the phone then.....(it'd be painful since I got everything except manual from my dad......) Thanks in advance!

since i have a v100, what version of of the keypad notes should i use the v66, t193???

I have the Motorola v120c. I have been trying to add one of those nifty ringtones that all the Nokia's have. I found some Motorola converters but it seems that the v120c had a different format than the converters spit out. It has notes in the form of C, D, E, F, G, A, and B. There are three note lengths 1, 2, or 3. Note sharps in the form of # or a symbol that looks like a little b. And octaves in the form q, h, and w. I think the q means quick, the h hard, and w withdrawn but I dunno really. Anyways I was wondering if anyone knew if there was a converter or website out there that supports this format because when I tried some of the other Motorola converters it spit out a different format. It was a whole bunch of numbers (some that you can't even input in my phone like 0 or anything higher than 3), no sharps, octaves, notes, or note lengths. I've been looking for one of those nifty ringtones for my phone for half a week or so now and haven't been able to find anything that works . Is the ringtone format on my phone maybe too new that any converter converts to it yet? I dunno, I'm gettin' a little surprised that I can't find anything out there !

Posted by: ndeans

You've got it a little backwards. The octaves are denoted by the 1-2-3, and the note length is denoted by the q-h-w. Q-Quarter note, H-Half note, and W-Whole note.

The way they designed this composer is good in the fact that it allows you to easier take a song from sheet music form and make it into a ringtone. Unfortunately, they left out one crucial thing. The tempo. If there was an adjustment for tempo it would be the best ringtone composer out there. Also, one more downside is the length that they allow for the song, it's very short. Hopefully they'll build on this composer and make it into what it can, and should be.

If there was to be an update would it come as a software update? Does anyone still know if there is anything out there that will convert to this type of format?

Check out this thread: http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...&threadid=10715

You can download a ringtone converter that converts RTTTL (Ring Tone Text Transfer Language) ringtones to Motorola keypresses for the Motorola V60, V66, 120C, 270C, P280.

Don't worry if you see a bunch of numbers. It's just the key press sequence and the notes will come up normal on your screen.

Here is an example of a key press ringtone (numbers only) converted using the Coding Workshop Ringtone Converter.
Original RTTTL format:
Nokring:d=8,o=5,b=180:4g,p,b,p,c#6,p,e6,4d6,p,b,p, g,p,e,c#,c#,c#,4d
Converted Motorola keypress format:
11400 440 220 440 11122270 440 111330 300 440 220 440 40 440 330 22270 22270 22270 300

The "11400" means press "1" twice, press "4" once, press "0" twice. Note that when you press "1" twice you get a "2" on your screen; when you press "4" one time you get a "G"; when you press "0" two times you get an "H".

To enter the complete ringtone enter the rest of the notes in the same manner. When you complete keying the ringtone above your screen will show the complete notes as: 2GhRqBqRq3C#qRq3EqDhRqBqRqGqRqEqC#qC#qC#qDh

Recognize the tune? I got it from http://www.ringtones4all.com/ From this website you can select FREE ringtones in the Nokring format and convert them to Motorola format.

See the thread started by Tatewaki at: http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...&threadid=10715

More about the ringtone converter and where to download:
http://www.codingworkshop.com/ringtones/about.html

The ringtone converter will convert RTTTL ringtones (which are pretty easy to find) to Motorola keypress format. The trial version will convert the first 15 notes of every ringtone you convert. I was able to get a free unlock key for letting them know that the software also works on the 270C. I think it's $5 to register but if you're happy with 15 notes per ringtone then...

Hope this helps. It took me a little while to figure it out.

What a useful thread. I'm stickying it so others can benefit from it.

Posted by: raull

But is there any coverters for RTTL to motorola format (not keypresses, can't to anything with them in my T192)?

Posted by: raull

1/1 is G8?
1/2 is G6?
1/4 is G4?
1/8 is G2?
1/16 is ?
1/32 is ?
And how I can add paus?

Posted by: Bezbozny

Can someone who is using the ringtone converter post some ringtones for motorola phones [e.g v66] on the web somewhere? [geocities etc..] I have a macintosh and i can not use the converter [if someone knows of an equivalent converter for Macs please post a link]

Thank you.

Bezozny.

I think you are right about the note durations but 1/8 seems to be as short as it gets.

I think in that format the pauses or rests are entered with an "R" followed by 2, 4, 6, or 8 depending on the desired length of the rest.

The following is for the ringtone format supported by Motorola P280, V60, V66, 120C and 270C.

For note durations add q, h, or w after the note. q=quarter note, h=half note, w=whole note. This note length will apply to the current note and all following notes until you change the length again.

To add a pause or a rest enter R followed by q, h, or w depending on the desired length of the rest.

Thank!
These first tones are contible for t192 (t193) also.

Thanks! I was totally getting confused when it spit all those numbers out and I couldn't get them on the screen. But it was the actual key on my phone! Thanks so much the help!

Can I make T193 ringtones using Motorola's ringtone composer and this checksum generator?

If not, what else do I need?

You just need to take the "revised" ringtone string from the checksum generator and SMS it to your phone. I think that should work for the T193.

Does anyone know if the ringtones will work on the Nextel i90c?

There's must be something that I don't catch at all.

I got the Motorola SMS Ringtone Generator 2.0
and I'm with Bell.
Tried lots of times to send the 'encoded' but the handset receive it and consider it always as a 'normal' textmessage.
Seems that a byte or a character (it's the same anyway) is missing.

Here's the song: (I think it's Nirvana)
E2 F2 F#4 A2 F#2 A2 F#2 F#2 F2 E2 B2 E2 E4 B2

Here's the result that I send true the SMS post text message dialog box on their websites:
L35&2 E2F2F#4A2F#2A2F#2F#2F2E2B2E2E4B2 &&20

That's it. Any explanations somewhere? Should I go to a particular sub-menu of the handset to make it work or what?

Tnx!

I don't think you can SMS ringtones to the 270C but if you refer to my previous posts in this thread you will learn how to manually enter the ringtones by pressing the keys on your phone.

Try the following keypress sequence. It the Simpsons theme.

When you complete keying the ringtone above your screen will show the complete notes as: 2GhRqBqRq3C#qRq3EqDhRqBqRqGqRqEqC#qC#qC#qD

Posted by: Sthack

Ah ok I see.

I was trying with SMS but of course if I use RTTTLL something it works just fine.
I'll try to forget SMS and I'll focus to enter some nasty ringtones instead...

Thanks anyway.

I know I am lazy, but does anyone know of a website where someone has translated songs into the keypresses? I'm trying to save time by not having to find the songs and then convert them to keypresses...

Any sites would be appreciated...right now all I have on my phone is the Simpsons and its getting a little boring!

Please don't flame me for being lazy, but I just figure why look for something when someone may have already done it...thanks guys!

Posted by: ndeans

Or, Howard could make a forum for Motorola ringtones, and those of us who convert the ringtones into keypresses can post them there.

I think that would be the best way for us to share our ringtones.

Ok, so I've searched everywhere for this tone, as I want this on my motorola phone. The closest that I've found to ay type of ringtone is the following sequence:

Key Sequence:
NFL 4 C3 D3 D#3 R3 D3 C3 G7 C8 C3 D3 D#3 R3 D3 C3 G#7 C8 C3 D3 D#3 R3 D3 C3 G7 G7 G#7 C+7 B+ R G3 G#3 D#+5 G3 G#3 D#+5 G3 G#3 D#+3 R3 F+3 R3 D+ R G3 G#3 D#+5 G3 G#3 D#+5 G3 G#3 D#+3 R3 G+3 R3 F+ D+8

This is supposedly for a motorla phone, but I can't figure out what 7 and 8 are supposed to be on the V60T.

This is for the Nokia:
Key Sequence:
NFL:Tempo=250:18*, 2, 2#, 0**, 2, 1, 599, (hold 1)**, 188*, 2, 2#, 0**, 2, 1, 599#, (hold 1)**, 188*, 2, 2#, 0**, 2, 1, 599**, 5*, 5#, 1*, 79**, 088**, 5888, 5#, 29*#, 58**, 5#, 29*#, 58**, 5#, 2*#, 0*, 4, 0*, (hold 2)999, 088*, 5888**, 5#, 29*#, 58**, 5#, 29*#, 58**, 5#, 2*#, 0*, 5, 0*, 4999, (hold 2)8

Composer Format:
NFL:Tempo=250:8c2 8d2 8#d2 8- 8d2 8c2 2g2 2.c1 8c2 8d2 8#d2 8- 8d2 8c2 2#g2 2.c1 8c2 8d2 8#d2 8- 8d2 8c2 2g1 2g2 2#g2 2c3 1b2 4- 8g2 8#g2 4#d3 8g2 8#g2 4#d3 8g2 8#g2 8#d3 8- 8f3 8- 1.d3 4- 8g2 8#g2 4#d3 8g2 8#g2 4#d3 8g2 8#g2 8#d3 8- 8g3 8- 1f3 2.d3

can anyone make anything of this??? it would be greatly appreciated, (I want it for the V60T). Thanks

What are the notes to American Pie? Please post them. If you don't have the actual keypresses then just post whatever shows up as the notes on your phone. The version I have sounds a bit weird. Thanks.

BTW, is anybody else going to post any ringtones???

Thats all good, but can you guys now post harry potter's tone in that format which i can send to my phone trough sms?
I don't have ringtone editor, but i can recieve tones <---stupid t192(3).

I would like to thank everyone who posted ringtones here. I would like to ask howard if it is possible to make a small forum where people will post their ringtones. Eventhough you can find easily ringtones for nokia it is extremely difficult to find for Motorola... it would be a great reserve in the web if such a forum existed.

I'm sorry, I am not good with all this phone stuff, but I was wondering if I could change the ring tone on my Motorola T193. It doesn't have a built in compser (I think??). So what would I do to change it, and where would I download them from? Thanks for your help!

I don't think that ringtone converter supports the T193. Check: http://www.codingworkshop.com/ringtones/index.html

Hi Guys,

We have just stumbled by this forum, thanks for all the great comments about the software!

The latest version supports the T191 phone (since the weekend), which probably means the T193 will use its codes.

If you need to contact us with any issues, or suggestions the email address is support@codingworkshop.com

Thanks again.

This website http://www.handphones.info has motorola ringtones and also a ringtone converter. I don't know if this will be of any use to those motorola users, since I'm using nokia all along the way...

Posted by: codingw

Just to let you know the Ringtone software has been updated, I realise many users of the software use this forum.

The Motorola P7382 has been added, and additional routines have been added to fix invalid RTTTL and Nokia Composer entries - ie. if you find an RTTTL tone on another site, but its headers are garbage, the software will try to fix it so you can use it.

Sorry if this next line sounds like a piece of promo text, but its something that does wind us up when we see other so called 'ringtone converters'....

The Coding Workshop Ringtone Converter does full keypress conversions, it doesnt just tell you which notes to put into your phone and leave the rest of the conversion to you! There are four different ways we know of to enter tones into a Motorola - we support them all.

Thanks

Andy

Posted by: celldude

for those motorola ringtones with all those numbers....... eg : 11111 22222

do i need to put in a space between the 1 and 2? i'm using v60....anyone can help?

Posted by: codingw

No, you do not need to enter the spaces, just press the keys, in your example press the key '1' five times, then the key '2' five times, and so on through the key press sequence.

The spaces are there to make it easier to read, if you saw something like 1111122222453761810 etc it would be practically impossible to enter.

Thanks

Andy

whats the max number of keys that can be entered into a ringtone for v60?

There is a limit to the number of keys you can use in a tone for the v60 / 66, so long tones can get truncated, we have tried to compromise between making the tones easy to enter and keeping the number of keys down.

There is a way of reducing the number of keys entered therefore getting a longer ringtone, but it means you have to wait about a second between entering the keys if the preceeding note is on the same key (eg A, B C or D E F), so we chose the alternative which is to allow you to enter the keys quickly as in tests people found it hard the other way.

Ill see if we can add an option to enter the tone with less keys if you select a long ringtone, that would seem to be the logical way forward as it would keep it easy for most tones, and for the few exceptions it would be harder to enter them, but they would not be truncated.

i put beat it and stan in my phone but it didnt work...............can somone please post ringtones or where i can find ringtones for the v60t.....ive searched everywhere but no find....

Posted by: codingw

There is a ringtone search facility at http://www.ringtonesearch.com/

Just did a search for Stan and its in there, so Ive fed that into the converter. It seems a poor (slow) rendition - but you get

440 330 330 330 330 3330 30 2220 3000 1220 112220 330 1220 11330 120 112220 330 330 330 3330 30 2220 330

Try it on the phone, it should work. If you find a better RTTTL let me know and Ill feed it in, or try it in the converter on your machine.

If you're talking about the web-based ringtone converter that someone posted a link for at the beginning of this thread--I'll agree with you there. Somehow, the converter seems to lose the tempo as the ringtone plays at a somewhat slower pace than the RTTTL-composed ringtone does on my Nokia 8890.

Posted by: Bengalboy

Here is a link to a website I use with my Nokia 8890, it has several sites to get ringtones in different formats and use with the ringtone converter. I put a pretty cool Mission Impossible on my V60 from a site using the Motorola ringtone converter.
http://www.logomanager.co.uk/links.html

Posted by: codingw

Hi,

The Converter software has just been updated, the reason Im posting this here is because the updates affect the Motorola v60, v66 and v120 handsets.

We have added an additional section to give conversions at a higher speed for those who like their tones fast, this is most noticable on tones like 'Bond' which were correct before, but played quite slowly on these handsets due to the fixed note durations used by Motorola.

You can download the update at http://www.codingworkshop.com/ringtones/download.html

While on the forum, we have found a nice source of ringtones for use with the software at http://www.ringtonerfest.com/6100/6...nes_cartoon.htm

We have tried a few, and most work very well on the Motorola.

Thanks!

krayons,

does one need a special firmware in order to program tones into a 60c cuz like I said earlier I can't find an editor or anything in the menus but I can find the tones that the fone comes with

Posted by: Andrey

If you're using Verizon Wireless, you will need 2100.03.28.05 firmware in order to add custom rings.

anyone know where i can get chinese ring tones for my v60g?

austin_kwong ,

try http://www.google.com

Posted by: celldude

codingw, do i need to uninstall my old version in order to install the new version or can i just overwrite it?

thanks

Posted by: Bengalboy

Cell Dude,
Just install the update over your existing ringtone converter. Once you opent the program and pick a ringtone enter it in the box. Hit convert ringtone bar and one of the key press options will be the uptempo version of the song. Otherwise, the converter looks exactly the same and you wont realize the update worked until you convert the tone to key presses.

Posted by: codingw

Just overwrite the old version, this way if you are a registered user you dont have to re-enter your registration info and any ringtones you have saved will be carried to the new version.

Its a good idea to update every few months as we are improving the software all the time. We have added an up tempo speed to the Motorola v60/66 recently, and a reverse conversion for nokia key press sequences, so you can convert these to your motorola as well as RTTTL and composer tones.

Thanks

Andy

Posted by: celldude

how long can i update my software for? just registered a few weeks ago.

Posted by: codingw

You can upgrade free for twleve months, which should see you through to about version 5

Posted by: Andrey

12 months? I just was about to recommend your pogram to some of my friends, but with only 12 months subscription I don't think I'm going to do that. Sorry...

Posted by: codingw

Thanks for the comment.

Why does 12 months free upgrades bother you? After the 12 months the software will continue to work, its just you wont be able to get free upgrades.

In the meantime if we release version 3, the 4 etc the upgrades are free wheras pretty much every other company out there charge an upgrade for every major version released, even if its only a few months after you have purchased.

Thanks

Andy

Andy,

Your ringtone converter is worth every penny. Very nice piece of software. Reliable, easy, and does what it claims.

Anyone on the fence, here is your push if you're looking to get ringtones into the v60. (or any other phone they support)

We do our best, and honestly, if you do want something else adding to the software just let us know at ideas@codingworkshop.com - all the feedback is appreciated, good and bad as it helps us get things right!

its a good program......but i think 12 months is too short

Posted by: Andrey

codingw ,

Don't get me wrong, you've created a great program. It is not ground breaking however and concept of converting ringtones from one format to another is nothing new at all. Your program simply adds convinience, and that's the main reason why I paid for it.

Unfortunately I was not aware that it is good only for 12-months which I think is a very short period, especially for just a "ring tone converter" with a fee. And paying additional money for a different GUI doesn't seem to justify the cost.

Just as an idea, but would you consider a discount to people who previously registered the program in contrast to people who are buying a program for the first time?

Posted by: Bengalboy

I am just going to throw my two cents in, I tried the converter before the upgrade to faster ringtones for the v60 which now makes the coverter much better in my opinion, however, before I purchased the unlocked version, I tried to see if the programmers of the LogoManager for Nokia phones were going to do anything with Motorola phones or the V60 v70 series. LogoManager is a much superior program for modding your phone, although I realize the need for a data cable and the extra cost of the program may not appeal to some people. If the upgrade in 12 months was for a program like LogoManager, I would not hesitate to pay up. If it is simply to to make the user interface better or add ringtones, I feel my $7 should cover it until a major upgrade regarding features is done.

Posted by: Jason

I have purchased a few programs over the net and usually once you pay for program, the upgrades are included.

Your upgrades are free, but only for 12 months and the users feel that its cutting them short a little.

I have never seen a program/company that allowed free upgrades for only 12 months, but I guess there is always a first...

Either way, its your company and you decide how valuable your service is and the users will decide how much they will pay...

Posted by: celldude

guaranteed to have less existing customers resubscribing for 12 months, as opposed to say 24 or 36 months.

The program will continue to work after the twelve months. Just the upgrades will be at a cost. IMO it's worth the $8.95

Hi guys,

Thanks for the feedback, we hadnt appreciated everyone would feel so strongly, or have a problem with the free upgrades for 12 months.

The policy was in place to give customers free upgrades whatever the improvements we made were, and however major. We did believe this was a benefit, not a restriction, as most other companies would charge for a major upgrade, for example upgrading from Windows 98 to XP, or Quicken 5 to 6 etc.

With our 'old' policy if you bought in the past 12 months then you would get free upgrades, and it allowed us to gradually add things such as the new tone optimizer in V2.9.3, and the planned SMS services, rather than save up all the new features and bring out one big improved release every six months and charge an upgrade fee.

However, we have thought long and hard, and looking at your comments, got it all wrong. We are here to listen, and get it right, so from today, including all current customers, there is no time limit on upgrades, you buy the software and the upgrades are free.

We do appreciate all the feedback and thank you all!

If you are not running V2.9.3, then its worth updating your software as the new auto tone optimizer makes slower tempo tones play much better on Motorola handsets.

Thanks!

Andy

Wow, thanks!

This definitely changes my thoughts towards "Ring Tone Converter" and I won't hesitate to recommend it to other people in the future.

Also, as an idea, would it be possible to send email notifications to everyone who registered regarding new versions and updates? Something similar to the mailing list maybe? This way we all will use the latest version and can give you feedback if there are any bugs or issues are found. Just a thought...

Thanks again for the update above!

Just to add a note about the LogoManager comparison.

Our software was never designed to compete with Logomanager as they do completely different things. As far as we are aware, and looking at their website, Logomanager is still a Nokia only program, and the extended facilities such as phone management and logo sending only work with Nokia handsets as these are the only handsets to support them. Registration of this program is listed on their website at between $ 24.95 and $ 495.

By comparison, the Ringtone Converter was developed with almost the opposite strategy.

Whilst we support Nokia phones, the original aim of the program was to allow people with other makes and models to take advantage of the vast number of ringtones available for Nokias and add them to their mobile, whatever the make with our software.

It all started when my wife bought a Motorola v66, and however hard we looked just could not find a decent converter so we wrote one. Its snowballed from there on to what you see now. The cost of the Converter is just $ 8.95, we make this charge to allow us to aquire new phones and components to expand the software, unfortunately we simply cant afford to give the program away and move it forward.

We are continuing with our development program, and the logical way forward, in addition to adding extra handsets and free sms services, is extended support for Nokia phones.

If you would like to see any additional features, for any make of phone just let us know at ideas@codingworkshop.com

Watch this space as they say.

Thanks Andy! That's a classy move. I just downloaded the upgrade and am anxiously awaiting my unlock key. Will this new key work on future releases as well, or will we have to email to get another unlock key?

Thanks again!

Yes, the unlock key should work in all future upgrades, however if you have any problems in the future just drop us an email with your name (or the name you ordered under) and the software code from the register screen and we will issue you a new code.

Thanks!

Just a response to the LogoManager comment. The developers of LogoManager replied that they are considering supporting other phone manufacters in the future, but due to the development time involved in the original for Nokia phones, it will be some time. I am not trying to compare your program to the Nokia, and as you pointed out, I paid $24 for the LogoManager v. $7 for your program. But the ease of use and features of LogoManger is something I would consider evolving your current program into if you are in the business of making money. Now that the upcoming Motorola phones are going to support downloadable ringtones and pictures, I would think that the developers of LogoManager are going to look to the next large manufacter for extending their program to, and ringtones that download directly into your phone versus manually inserting them will be a no-brainer for most cell phone geeks. I do enjoy your program and think it is a great value, however.

There's a newer ringtone converter version out from Coding Workshop if anyone's interested. It has new functionality for MOT phones showing exactly what should be displayed on the phone.

http://www.codingworkshop.com/ringtones/index.html

Great little program, but an email with information on updated versions would be nice.

-OK, this thread is the ****

-got a ques? though...

-i still have the startac, can i change thee ringtones on this model? it is the Timeport P8767

Posted by: codingw

We didnt have access to the Startac phone when writing the Motorola key sequencer, but if you have the handset you can try it.

If the phone has a ringtone composer built in it will probably use the old Motorola code set, so the key press sequences for the Motorola P7382 are most likely to work.

While on the forum, apparently the Motorola T191 key sequences are not the same for all models of T191. We have sourced a new T191 with the alternate key sequences and we will be adding this to the software in the next couple of days, so if you have this phone bear with us!

Thanks

Andy

PS.

Thanks Audi Boy for posting the update message. We would love to send out emails regarding new releases, however when we do so someone (an unknown customers) complains to our hosting provider for sending junk email and tries to get our site shut down! We used to have a subscription form, but the guy subscribed to that too, and we dont know who they are!

If you use the check for update button in the software this takes you to the download page so you can check for updates, thats th best we can do at the moment - sorry!

PPS.

We do not, and will not send junk / spam email!!!

Thanks again!

First the bad news!

The Ringtone Converter price has been increased to $12.95 due to a rise in our banking costs on small value transactions. This still makes our product $ 3 cheaper than anything out there that remotely competes, but its a price rise none the less - sorry!

Now the good news!

To ease the pain a bit, if you use the coupon below (entered on the Confirmation page of the order process) when ordering through Register Now you get a $ 5 discount, making the price just $ 7.95!

Discount Coupon : CWRT-UU4Y-HWD

The coupon is valid through to the end of the year, please do not forget to use it as we cannot apply the coupon after the order has gone through for you (the coupon and billing systems are handled by RegNow).

Thanks for your support here at the Howard Chui forum.

hi there. this is my second post. i am trying to download a ringtone onto my v60. the directions that i received from the 'ringtone converter' tell me to go to the menu, settings, ring/vibrate, then 'my tones'. i cant seem to find that option. is there something i'm missing? or another way to do this? thanks for your help.

Posted by: Andrey

Do you have Motorola v60c, v60t, or v60g?
What's the firmware version of your phone?
(Menu >> Settings >> Phone Status >> Other Information >> S/W Version)

Posted by: mdwsta4

its the v60c. when i go to menu>settings>(ring/vibrate, phone status, connection, in call set up, security, other)in ring/vibrate>(alert:ring/vibrate, ring/vibrate detail).
does that help at all?

Posted by: Andrey

The reason I was asking your for the firmware version because certain versions of firmware support ringtones, and certain do not.

For example, if your software version is 2100.03.28.05 (for Verizon), you will have the option to enter custom ringtones. If your software version is lower than the one I mentioned, you will not be able to enter custom ringtones.

Posted by: mdwsta4

where can i find that information? my phone is through verizon

Posted by: Andrey

Read my post above regarding how to find the S/W Version.

Posted by: mdwsta4

okay, so mine's 2000.08b2.01
so i cannot enter ringtones? why is it that i have this version? is it newer models? i've only had the phone for a week! darn. i really wanted to add ringtones to it. is there another way to do it?

Posted by: Andrey

Go to your local Verizon store and ask them to upgrade software on your phone to 2100.03.28.05. It's free and you'll have the ability to enter custom ringtones

Question for Coding Workshop....

Does the program tanslate the tempo of the ringtone just like the Nokias or is it somewhat different?

Reason I ask is some songs don't seem to have the right tempo and I'm not sure if it's reflective of the creator of the RTTL of because Motorola's don't support the tempo feature like Nokias.

TIA

Posted by: codingw

Thanks for the question.

Unlike Nokia phones, most Motorola phones dont give you the option to specify a tempo, so we have to adjust the note durations in a ringtone to alter the tempo. Most tones play at around 120-160bpm which is acceptable, however some play faster or slower and this is where an adjustment takes place. For example if the tempo of a tone was 240bpm, the converter would automatically alter a 1/4 duration note at this tempo to a 1/8 duration note so it played better (faster) on the Motorola.

The biggest problem the earlier Motorola composers had was the limit of only 3 note durations, this affects the v60 / 66 and 120 phones. Although most tones are acceptable, some will never convert due to this limitation, and the quarter note which is the shortest available on these handsets is still quite a long note, so generally tones are slow.

The T191 improved on this with 8 note durations, however Motorola made the entry of the tones far more difficult. Ive not seen a V70 yet so I dont know what they have done with its composer, somewhere inbetween would be good!

The bottom line is that we believe we have the best translation available for the phone, whichever model.

One of the next improvements to the software will be the ability to adjust the tempo of the rtttl prior to conversion, so if you are finding a tone a little fast or slow, tweaking the RTTTL to play faster or slower will be a simple button click away.

Thanks!

Andy

Thanks Andy! As always, excellent customer service!

So i'm confused as to how to sms myself a ringtone through icq (Motorola v60g cingular). I've used the motorola composer, converted that txt file using the motorola sms ringtone generator and tried to just paste the results into an sms .. but it always arrives as a text message -- is this normal? Am I supposed to do somethign with it once it arrives as a text message, or is it supposed to arrive as a ringtone? Thanks.

Posted by: codingw

As far as im aware (unless Motorola have updated the firmware) the v60 doesnt accept ringtones via SMS, the only way you can get them into the phone is to key them in

Andy

Posted by: gfunk

ok, just 1 question guys, i've got a 60c, i already have ringtones in motorola format, is there a way to convert them into keypress format?

Posted by: codingw

Not using our converter software, other software may exist that does the job, but I have seen 'Motorola' ringtones expressed in a number of ways as there is no fixed standard like RTTTL or Nokia composer formats.

If you send us a few examples of the tones you have Ill see if we can add it to the import filter if you like.

Andy

Posted by: gfunk

its cool. i just wanted the keypresses to make it easier to enter it into my phone in case something happend. well anyways if anyone wants here is all my ringtones for the 60c. they all work perfect, not slow or anything, also they are perfect loops, so when your phone is ringing, there is no cut in the tones. enjoy!

codingw does your program work for the Samsung T300 aswell???

Posted by: codingw

The T300 doesnt have a composer built in so you have to use the export facility in the software to save the file in 'Samsung Mymelody' format, then send this to the phone using Samsungs Mymelody software.

If you jump over to the Samsung forum and do a search there they have details of how to do this.

Posted by: entranced

grr....I'm so frustrated with the lack of quickness of tempo in the motorola v60 composer! So many of their crappy built in tones make use of eighth and sixteenth notes...anyone know a way around having a quarter note as your quickest note???

Posted by: codingw

No, the v60 just doesnt do notes faster that 1/4 im afraid.

We have tweaked converter for the v60 tones to give better renditions of very fast tones (+250bpm), but its just better to stick to slower ringtones with the v60 / 66 handsets as these play fine and there are still 1000's of slow tones around, its just a shame with the phone being so nice, and having so many ringtone 'slots' that the composer is poor.

What will be interesting is to see what the V70 does. It looks in spec to be the same as the V60, but I hope Motorola have taken the composer from the V50 or T191 and put that in as both can do better note speeds.

The Ringtone Converter is now up to release 3.4.9, the only real change at the moment for Motorola users is the inclusion of the V50 handset which runs another totally different set of keys for entering tones! Its probably the best composer they have built in yet as its easy to use, but they appear to have a problem with the v50 when you play a 'B' after a 'C', if you have a handset try it, it makes an interesting noise (it isnt a 'B'!) Might just be the handset we have, hopefully it is!

Posted by: codingw

Just download a new copy from http://www.codingworkshop.com/ringtones/download.html and install it over the top of your current copy.

If you have a VERY old copy you may need a new key, just email us at support@codingworkshop.com and we will send one over to you if thats the case, but your current key will probably work for you.

Thanks

Can you receive and setup ringtones via SMS on the V60... is so then how?

Posted by: codingw

Unfortunately. No.

To the best of our knowledge the v60 and v66 cannot get ringtones via sms, the only way to enter them is using the keypad.

The v50 and v100 can recieve ringtones by sms, and you can type them in.

Hi,

We have put up a web page that uses Microsoft Agent to read out the ringtone key sequences generated by the Ringtone Converter.

If you copy any paste the output from the converter into this site, Merlin will read it to you, which tends to make the tones easier to enter (you dont lose your place when entering them).

http://www.find-a-tone.com/cgi-bin/...ne/readtone.cgi

Its still beta so there are no guarantees it will work on your system, but if it proves popular we could make it more robust and add it to the software.

The first time you use it, if you dont already have Microsoft Agent on your system the web page will download it, it takes a while but its worth it, and on subsequent visits you dont have to wait.

Andy

Posted by: codingw

Hi.

V3.4.10 of the Ringtone Converter is now available at http://www.find-a-tone.com/download/cwrtinst.exe

The Motorola v60, v66, v120 and p280 algorithms have all been updated to give better separation between the standard rendition and the faster rendition. The standard is more accurate, great for slower ringtones, but slow for faster ringtones, whilst the faster rendition has been improved so its better for faster ringtones.

A popup menu box has been added to tell you when you have selected a 'fast' tone to advise you to use the faster rendition.

The new 'fast' codes exploit a small bug in the handset software that seems to let the ringtones play faster when entered in certain sequences. It works for most tones so its worth a try, although the v60 phones will never be brilliant at fast ringtones im afraid!

The new version will only be availble on download site http://www.find-a-tone.com/download/cwrtinst.exe initially (from 3pm EST), but should be on all sites by the weekend.

Thanks!

Andy

Posted by: Andrey

Ok, I don't know if it's me or something else.

I've installed 3.4.10 and reading of the tones doesn't work. I get the balloon with different keys which I need to press, but no sound at all. I'm using WindowsXP and TTS engine is installed and works perfectly in any other program which uses TTS.

Second, after the program is initially opened, under "Select a ringtone.." I have that listed twice. In other words, it looks like this:
Select a ringtone..
Select a ringtone..

--Andrey

Posted by: Andrey

... and on the main page 3.4.9 is still listed as the latest version.

--Andrey

Posted by: codingw

Thanks, the select a ringtone has snook in there when we fixed the key up/down problem (when you use key up and down to flick through the ringtones they disappeared). We will get that one.

Not sure about the TTS problem, its standard Microsoft agent stuff so it should work. If you want to email me at andy@codingworkshop.com with the ringtone you are trying Ill see if we can replicate it.

Thanks

Andy

Posted by: codingw

Hi,

Version 3.4.12 of the Ringtone Converter has been released.

It tidies up the bugs Andrey found, and adds octave shifting.

To explain this one, the Motorola phones support 3 octaves, whilst RTTTL files can use up to four. Most RTTTL files however do only use three.

This modification ensures RTTTL files that use octaves outside the range of the phone are automatically shifted into the range. The tones play in a higher octave than designed, but they play.

If you want to try an example, enter the Addams Family ringtone on a v50 in the old version - it will drop a note half way through due to that note being outside the octave range, then download the new version and try it again, it will work. Or, try the US anthem on a v60, then again with the new version (using the fast rendition), its the opposite problem (the tone needed shifting down), but it now works.

You will not see a change for 99% of ringtones as they are generally written in the standard middle range of octaves, but for those that are not, this version performs a better conversion.

Thanks!

Posted by: Andrey

Thanks Andy!

Unfortunately I still can't get ringtones read to me on Windows XP machine (my laptop), however on Windows 2000 (desktop computer) everything seems to work perfect now.

I reinstalled TTS engine on Windows XP, as well as changed every available setting, but unfortunately I still get only a bubble with the text, but no sound. This happens for every single ringtone. Is there anything else I might be missing there?

Thank you in advance,

--Andrey

Posted by: codingw

Thanks Andrey. We have tried the Text to Speech (TTS) engine on a few Windows XP systems now and it seems to be working. Which TTS engine are you using?

There will be another update to the softwate over the weekend as we have finally got a V70 so its going in the software

The revision will be 3.4.14, the just from 12 will simply be because we dont use 13!

Thanks

Andy

Posted by: Andrey

Ok, I tried to make tones readable on another Windows XP machine and still no sound. Both are default installations of Windows XP Professional. Both computers use the default TTS engine which comes with WindowsXP.

Posted by: codingw

Thanks again Andrey,

We have tested the TTS (Text to Speech) engine on Windows XP Home (and 95, 98, ME) without the problems, we hadnt tested on XP Professional.

Ill get hold of a machine running professional and see if we can replicate the problem.

Fortunately the TTS (Text to Speech) code is standard Microsoft web based html code and not part of the ringtone converter program, so whatever the problem is, it will not need a program revision, we just need to update the scripts on our webserver to generate different html for your web browser.

Its always the free add ons that cause the headaches!

What do you think of the new conversion routines for the actual ringtones, we have put 100's of tones through them now and really think they are much better, I really dont think the V60 / 66 phones are capable of much better!

Andy

Posted by: codingw

The Ringtone Converter has been updated again....

Motorola v70 has been added and we have also added a reverse filter (select File, then Ringtone Import Wizard) to allow you to translate Motorola v60 screen codes like those below back into RTTTL, so you can then generate the key press sequences required to add the tone to any Motorola phone.

We cant say how good the tones you may find in this format are, but if you wanted to add a Motorola v60 tone to say a Motorola v50, or even a Nokia, well its now possible!

Thanks

Andy

Hi DjTBurn

The codes for the v100 are the same as the v50, so just select v50 in the software, or search on the net for v50 ringtones.

For Redsun_ty:

The numbers will be the keys you need to press, if you locate your ringtone composer, then press the keys in the order shown you should get a ringtone. Not sure where the numbers came from, so I couldnt tell you if they work, or what tone you will get!

Thanks

Sorry guys but I still don't get how I send the ring tone to my motorola phone

Posted by: codingw

Which phone do you have, it varies on the handset?

Posted by: adi

My phone is motorola V2667. And how do I send the ringtones by SMS?

Posted by: codingw

The V2667 isnt a phone we have seen, so Im afraid I cant help you.

The v50 / v100 / t191 and t193 phones accept ringtones via sms, whilst phones like the v60 and v120 dont, you have to use the composer in the phone to enter tones.

As far as I know, ALL the motorola phones that take ringtones by SMS also have a composer in the handset, so its worth checking to see if you can key in ringtones, if you can, then it might work with sms, if not, then it probably wont.

I just updated my ringtone converter and see where you added the V70. I just got my V70 and wondered if there is any difference between it and the V60g's composer? If so, what is it and is it better than v60?

Posted by: codingw

There are a couple of notes the v70 doesnt play well and a couple of different notes the v60 doesnt, but they are basically the same, its just a different buzzer in the phone thats to blame.

Personally I prefer the v70, its a nice phone, but the v60 is a lot cheaper most places!

What about long ring tones Codingworkshop, my 8890 would store a tone like mission impossible 2 in 2 seperate memory slots but play the entire tune. My V70 after programming in the key presses seems to cut out on long tunes like it ran out of memory. Do you know of any solution to this problem?

Posted by: codingw

The v70 composer limits the number of key presses rather than notes, which is different!

You can shorten the entry sequence for many ringtones by changing the input method, but the 'alternate' method is not easy to enter, you have to pause all the time, and if you pause at the wrong time the tone gets messed up.

We have it coded, and tried it for a while in the software but got tons of tech support email from people who just found it impossible to enter a tone that way, so we opted for the simpler method currently in the software and removed the complex way to avoid confusion.

I will see if we can add an additional option for 'advanced' users and put the old code back in there. This would allow you to enter longer ringtones, but in practice its so easy to make mistakes you will end up throwing the phone across the room!

As with all things, if we add an 'advanced' option, most people would assume its better and try to use it instead, and that just isnt the case.

Interesting one...

Well Andy,
Anyone who stays on this forum as much as I do, obviously has some time to get things right. I loved the mission impossible 2 theme on my 8890, I used LogoManager input it and would like to put it in it's entirety on my V70, if you should revise the software with this advanced user selection let me know. Several songs I had on the 8890 cut short on the V60g and now my V70. Irritating! Motorola should think about these little things on such high-end phones.

Posted by: codingw

I think it would have been better if Motorola had given 16 slots for ringtones instead of 32, each with twice the memory.

If there is anyone from Motorola reading this, put it in the suggestion box at the office!

Posted by: Audi Boy

I know this is a dumb question, but I'll ask anyway.

Has anyone found the "Austin Powers" ring in RTTL format? You know, in the movie when he gets a message from Basil.

I doubt the v60 can recreate that tone well anyhow, but I'd like to try. TIA

Where can I find a Godfather theme ringtone for a V60?......

Thanks

You might want to try posting to the correct forum. This is Motorola. You talking about a Nokia, right? Check over in that forum. I'm sure it's been discussed many times over.

Ok here's what I need to do. I need to find a website that has ringtones that I put on my Motorola P280 phone. I know that I need a converter. Please give me a link for a converter to use. I use to have a 3390, enough said I guess, in other words I had millions and millions of ringtones OTA, but with the P280, that's all gone. Please tell me everything that I need to do. I want updated ringtones though, not very very old, you know, like new songs and stuff.

Posted by: codingw

The P280 is an interesting one.

The handsets we have had here have the same composer as the v60 / v66 / v70, so any ringtones for those phones work fine, but there appear to be a few out there that have a totally different composer and can download midi files?.

If anyone has any info on this we would love to hear from them, if its a standard p280 you could use our software to add ringtones, or any other that support the v60.

Andy

I have your converter, but I need somewhere to get the ringtones from. I tried converting a wav file to midi, but it was pretty disasterous.

Posted by: codingw

Whats the ringtone you are after?

If you have the latest version you could use the ringtone search function to try to find it, or if you can find the ringtone as a midi file, use the midi converter to convert it.

There is quite a good midi search at http://www.musicrobot.com/

You need to clear the ringtone RTTTL box and type in

Enable Midi

to access the midi import function (it appears in the file menu after you have typed the above in) as its still beta, but works pretty well most of the time.

No specific ringtone right now, but I really want a lot of updated hip-hop & R&B, and different themes and anthems.

Posted by: defcon

are you guys sure that you cannot send SMS ringtones to the v3682 phone??
just wondering, cause i'm new here

Posted by: RyanM

Can you download ringtones for the v60t? How do you get them to the phone?

Please share, i am thinking of getting the v60t.

Posted by: aiwapro

Ok here's the deal. I use to get my ringtones from Zingy. They provided me with tons and tons of free always up-to-date ringtones for my Nokia 3390 and several other Nokia phones, but my P280 is on its way and I want the same ringtones. Is there anyway at all that I can get those ringtones onto my P280.

Thanks.

Is there a problem with their website right now. When I click on most of the links, it says the page isn't there, Error.

Posted by: roguemoog

is it just me or are most of matrixm.com's ringtones waiting for permission from the copyright owners or whatever? i can't seem to find anything available besides damn video game stuff. everything good is unavailable.

Posted by: aiwapro

Yeah I noticed the same thing.

On another note, I just want to let you all know that the Cleveland market is fully launched. They just haven't started advertising it yet. It is fully launched as of the beginning of this month. I just got done talking to a product manager and he told me that.

Hi there,

Does anyone know the keypresses to make the "classic" Nokia ringtones on a v60? That is, the ones that come built in to a regular Nokia phone. I don't like the ones that come with the Motorola, but I really can't use a song or anything like that where I work. I would like just the Nokia ringtone that their phones come set to by default, that they use in the TV ads, etc.

Any tips would be appreciated. I've scoured the web and so far no luck...

Thanks!
Jason

Past the "RTTTL" code and convert it to "Motorola by SMS"

they convert it for ya!
now, send this to your Cell by clicking "Send it to your phone"

Hi all,

We got asked to let everyone know when we do updates that affected Motorola users here, so this message is for just that.

We have updated the software to version 3.6

Specifics affecting Motorola users are:

New keypress routines for v60, v66 and v70. These are now shorter to allow for longer ringtones.

The Motorola v60t and v120t have been added, these phones have a new composer capable of fast notes (at last!)

And finally, with the new version you can now convert midi files into ringtones.

Thanks for all the support, we look forward to your feedback!

Andy
