HELP w/8100 v7 & bitpim - cable is blowing out USB port!!

Hi guys.
I really need your help.

I had version 4 on my 8100, and version 07.37 of Bitpim. I was able to use it along with Josh's application to load ringtones onto my phone once.

I had the phone flashed to version 7 which of course wiped out my ringtones on the phone. Tonight I uninstalled bitpim 07.37 and downloaded the newest one. I connected the cable to the USB port and plugged it into my phone, and I had a problem finding the port. So I started looking through the forums for help on that when the connection between the phone and USB was lost. Gone. Bye bye.

So, I uninstalled the new version of Bitpim and reinstalled 07.37, thinking that might be the problem. no dice. I tried this several times, and what happens is I have to restart my computer, start bitpim, plug in the cable (the blue light comes on), plug it into the phone and BOOM. No connection - AND anything else I try in the USB ports after that doesnt work - flash drives, even the mouse. I have to restart the PC to get the USB to work again.

Any ideas??? My boyfriend tried plugging the cable into his mac and into the phone and it worked, it stayed on and started charging the phone - so I dont think its the cable. Did version 7 do something to sabatoge using Bitpim?? or is it my PC?? ive had no problems at all using anything in the USB ports until now.

I am flipping out here.. HELP!!!!!!!
