V3 Razr (unbranded) constantly roaming in U.S.

Purchased off eBay the new (unbranded) Pink V3 Razr (before it's release through Cingular in the U.S.). It was evident the phone came from Japan. Auto language was Japanese and charger was foreign type of plug. Box said packed in PRC, which I assume is People's Republic of China. Got it changed to english just fine.

Anyway, my friend wanted to give it to his girl. He tested it using his Cingular sim card and it worked fine. His girl's sim card is AT&T and while the phone works with her sim, it is always in ROAM no matter where she goes. Not the case with Cingular sim. They took a trip from S. Indiana to N. Michigan last weekend and it roamed the whole time. Cingular told her she'd have to cancel her AT&T contract and sign Cingular one to get Cingular sim to cure the roam problem.

Anyone know how to get the phone OUT of constant roam without her switching from AT&T (violating her contract) to Cingular?

THANKS!

uh...you can learn how to do seem editing. Look around in the forums. Or just ignore it because you are not getting charge for roaming if you are on the national plan.

Thanks for the reply. Would rather not disable the roam indicator in case the girl would goto Canada for instance...the roam indicator would be sure to remind her she would indeed be roaming.

Any other ways?

I can assure you its not from Japan. They use the same voltage (and plug type) we use. Its probably a chinese phone.

What sucks about the roaming is that every where she goes, she has to dial a 1 and area code for every number.

Anyone know any way around this constant roaming thing?
